Chase shrugged. He took another sip, savoring the fizzy feeling on his tongue, and then tried again. Nothing. “Well, i-it was dra-ma-tic when i-it happened.” He smiled, and playfully flicked his fingers again, not expecting them to sparkle, but they did.

Chase laughed, for what was probably the first time in months. “It is magic!” His now bright blue eyes, rimmed with a ring of purple, sparkled. He laughed again as he watched her create more. She’s beautiful. He thought.

The Twins
The room for newspaper club had the comforting smell of a brand new book. Desks with old computers and stacks of paper lined one side of the classroom while a large printer sat in the back. In the middle, where all the children now sat, was a large round table. It was clearly old, covered in scratched doodles and notes in various different languages and alphabets. There were still plenty of seats left open. There were no adults in sight.
“Stop looking at me like that.” Ellie glanced distrustfully at her sister as she walked in and took a seat at the table. Eddie was smiling.
“Like what?”
“I don’t know. Like that. It’s like your scheming face but worse. I told you, we’re just going as friends.”
“Of course! I believe you.”
“…Did you just wink at me?”
“No.”
“Yes, I saw you winking. Where are you going? Ed.”
Without responding, Eddie walked to the front of the room. She cleared her throat, then clapped her hands loudly for people’s attention. Eventually, the other students quieted down and looked at her. Many had to crane their necks to see her over the table. She put her hands on her hips and smiled confidently at them all.
“Hi! I’m Eddie. Seems like our teacher is late, but I am willing to take on the responsibility of leading this club in the meantime. So. Obviously, we’re going to need to write about the dance, but does anyone have any other ideas for articles we should write?”

@rae For a while there, I actually thought that the blue sparks were some new part of Chase’s powers that he was discovering. Apparently I was not reading carefully XD

“Alright, well, just let me know later if you have something.” Mr. Ziegler gave Lois a friendly pat on the back before leaving to go help another student who had her hand up.
Lois found a cloth to wipe up the ink on his desk. As he did, he looked with slight concern over at Marcel.
“Haven’t seen you since last night. How are you doing?”
