āYep!ā Hallie flashed him her signature smile. āIām glad you came along.ā
Easton bobbed his head in a small laugh. āAnytime. Butā¦ā he peered over the heads of students. āLooks like weāre switching partners.ā
Hallie shrugged. āI guess I have to go find somebody new.ā She waved as she backpedaled dramatically into the swarm of students. āBye Easton!ā
He chuckled and leaned against the wall. He didnāt mind just watching. Sure, if someone came up to him and asked he would dance, but to be honest, he was hoping to not catch anyoneās attention.

“Now that was uncalled for!ā Riina said indignantly. āI was talking to this crank!ā She jabbed her thumb towards the guy who had come nosing around. āIf youāre all gonna be like that, Iām outta here!ā She opened a portal beneath her and vanished in the blink of an eye.

Babs hesitated, then did the only thing she knew to do. She made a beeline for the closest friend.
Felicity stood watching Lois walk away. A strange look crossed her face as she glanced down at her still outstretched hand.
āFelicityā¦ā Babs grabbed her friend by the arm, almost tripping over her own skirt. Which was practically impossible because it came to her knees. āFelicity, Fel, Iām worried, oh-ā
āWhat is it?ā Felicity blinked her snowy eyelashes, curious.
āItās Marcel. Oh, itās worrying me so much – heās been acting so strange. And, well, we think we know where he is, but Iām still worried.ā Babs tried to pull herself together. Her soft sunset eyes welled with tears. āI havenāt seen him all afternoon. I should have kept an eye on him, and now who knows whatās happened to him!ā
The exhaustion is strong with this one

Saoirse stuck her hand in her pouch and pulled out a stone the size of a large egg before calmly leaning back against the wall. She didnāt want to waste the stone – she only had two more like it – but if she needed a quick and stealthy getaway, she would use it.

If she drops the stone, it will suck in all the light around it creating a temporary impermeable cloud of darkness.

Vlydia barely flinched as Riina landed next to her, having dropped from a portal above. One got used to her sudden appearancesā¦to some extent.
“What did you doĀ now?āĀ sighed Vlydia.
“Me? Nothing!ā said Riina. āSome snoopy guy wanted to take my boots, and then a jerk threw a knife at my head. Had to get out fast.ā
Vlydia narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
“Thatās what happened,ā said Riina defensively. āI didnāt do anything wrong. Well except bring these boots in, but that doesnāt count, ācause those rules are dumb.ā
Vlydia sighed again.
“By the way,ā Riina continued. āIf that snoopy guy comes over, you might wanna stick your books and stuff to the ceiling.ā
“Where are you goingĀ now?āĀ Vlydia groaned.
“Dunno,ā said Riina. āFigured Iāll just walk around and see if anything interestingās happening.ā
With that, she left again.

As Riina walked through the room, she noted with some dissatisfaction that nobody seemed properly awed by her presence. Nobody even seemed particularly impressed by her jumping around the room. Didnāt they realize a hero was in their midsts?
Of course they donāt,Ā she thought to herself.Ā I havenāt done anything heroic yet, except defy the contraband ordinances.
A hero had to inspireāhad to stand up to evil. So where was the evil in this room right now? Of course: the nosy snoop, tyrannizing the students and confiscating their belongings!
Riina opened a portal under her and teleported over to him. She landed in a crouch on her feet and one hand (which she could now do without breaking her wrist thanks to her powers.)
“Hey, you!ā she called. āYou wanted my boots? Well you can have them, if you defeat me in a duel!ā
The man stared at her blankly.
Riina opened her pocketspace. A portal appeared to her right, and a long, slender single-edged sword popped out. Riina caught it.
“Thatās right,ā she said, striking a dramatic pose and pointing the sword (Sliver), at him. āI challenge you to a duel, tyrant! Would you prefer to-the-death or to-first-blood? Iām good either way.ā
