Glad you enjoyed it!
Nar
“A lot. Both my parents are fond of music, and my older brother plays drums when he feels the mood. I like to dance personally, especially duos. Realn-style duos are the prettiest dances you will ever see. Triplets are complicated. Most dances are upbeat and quick, some so much so only the most flexible and agile can do them.” (I don’t know much about dancing at all so this must be vague.) Nar tapped her toe twice, then her heel, starting to hum a sweet tune. Despite it’s slow enough beginning, the music quickened, and with it, her movements. She clicked her fingers and clapped her hands as she twirled or vined, tapping toes or heels on the floor. Each movement was flourished and coordinated.
When she finally halted, she smiled at Hugo.
“I should teach you to do one of the duos.”

Nar had all the elegance of a nightclub performer back home.
When she finished, Hugo clapped his hands together. “Flexible and agile are my two middle names, sister. Okay, you start like this, right?…”
He wasn’t a perfect learner. Only one step at an time. Unlike his rascal brother, who could picture a hundred moves ahead in his mind’s eye, Hugo depended more on his own natural grace. He almost never tripped, and he could twist himself in the most complex positions quite easily.
Nar took his hands to guide him.

I’m on Christmas break and am going nOwhEre so, behold.
Well, I am going evReWHrE because my family always has a ton of crazy plans for the holidays. Which is great. But stressful. I’m tired.
ANYWAYs…
@rae @whaleyHugo and Nar are being so adorable rn what the heck
Felicity
Felicity walked casually around the chatting students, leaving behind a trail of banned items on the floor and with people’s things. She was just balancing her last two pens on a light fixture with a devilish smile, when she saw someone coming towards her through the crowd. She realized it was the General, and her pens dropped to the floor. The old man’s eyes were narrowed in suspicion, but they weren’t yet focused solely on her. She dove away into the crowd.
“Students of Destina!”
Suddenly, all attention went to the front of the room. Felicity kept weaving between people and looking for her friends. The two teachers up front, meanwhile, demonstrated a basic waltz. Felicity glanced over her shoulder and could no longer see the vengeful math teacher.
“Find partners. Get a move on, now!” one teacher commanded.
Finally, Felicity recognized Lois with his baggy clothes and his unkempt curly dark hair. She hurried up to him and tugged on his sleeve.
“You were supposed to be my look out!” she hissed.
He looked at her innocently.
“Sorry, I was speaking with those friends of yours. They left me to go practice.” He tilted his head thoughtfully to one side.
“I think I like Calvin. Wish we’d talked more.”
“Forget Calvin!” Felicity put both her hands on Lois’ shoulders and looked intensely into his face. “Gregory almost caught me. I could’ve died. Or worse. Gotten. Extra. Math homework.”
Lois’ gold eyes sparkled behind his glasses.
“No, no. That’s not right,” he said. “Your hand is supposed to go here.” He gently took one of her hands in his, and put his other on her side, so they were in a waltz position.
“And then, um…” He looked down at his feet and tried taking a step.
Felicity snorted back laughter as they started dancing together with slow, unsure movements. After many stumbles, they got somewhat into the rhythm.
“No. You’re supposed to step forward while I step back.”
“I don’t want to step on your feet…”
“I’m tough.”
“Fel, you don’t have shoes.”

Wyoh stop this!!!!
Nar
Taking Hugo’s hands almost stoppedcher heart, but it kept pumping, racing in loud thumps in her ears.
“The general rule of this dance in that in all your twirls and vines, you must make the general shape of a leaf traced upon the ground with your feet. Other Imagine there’s paint on your shoes, and it marks the floor as you go. By the time your done dancing, there should be a leaf. It’s called the dance of the Lieve. (Pronounced Lie-ev) ” Nar directed Hugo’s feet and arms, cueing when to clap or click his fingers. They went slow, until Hugo grasped the pattern. “The other general for this dance is that for every measure of music, there must be at least one movement. Believe me, other dances get harder, some call for a movement every note!”
When the Realn dance was ended where it had begun at the tip of the leaf, Nar smiled widely.
“For being unRealn, you dance well. I did worse my first time.”

Hugo
“Heeey, I’ve got it! Okay – watch this -”
Hugo tried again, this time by himself. He made it almost to the end, but slipped up, and finished with a goofy swing freestyle. His feet tapped rhythmically as he tilted his head to one side, grinning from ear to ear. “It’s funny, your dance seems so posh and royal. I dance because I’m on the underground, and underground people are freaky unconventional. Best of both worlds, yeah?”

Nar laughed.
“Yeh, the Realn can be very…very nable? Nohble?”
“Noble?”
“Yes. Everything is honor, and glory and tradition. Even which hand you put over your heart as a sign of friendship can’t be mixed up. It can be strict, but you get used to it.”
"You need French Toast."
December 21, 2023 at 1:28 pm #170609Hugo
“Oof.” Hugo wrinkled his nose again, and scowled. “I don’t do strict.”
Nar sighed dramatically. “Well… if that’s how it is…”
“Okay, I’m just kidding.” Hugo couldn’t play the serious part for more than a minute before breaking out in a smile, made of dazzling sunshine. It was just impossible. “All those traditions and rituals sound strict, but reassuring too. After all, you don’t have to decide if a smile means good, or a slap means pain.”
It made things simpler. No one could say something, and not mean it.
Just bouncing this kid in your direction XD Maybe we can have some fun
Sebastian
Seb was calm.
At least, now he was calm.
The strange yet colorful high he had just experienced had plateaued, then slowly fallen to a dull buzz in the back of his skull. He suddenly gripped at his own jacket collar, writhing like a cat stuck in a pillowcase, and shook his head as hard as he could.
Then the crystalline patterns in his mind melted, like tiny black cracks filling with hot glass – and everything looked clear again.
He smirked.
No, no, no. He wasn’t crazy. Just interesting.
He spotted the alien from lunch, nearby. Dante stood coldly, watching the activities with hooded eye, but didn’t look entirely unpleasant.
Seb swaggered over. But this time, instead of comically bouncy and cheerful, he was a little more deliberate. He replaced the smirk with a quirk of the eyebrow. “Hi.”
“…Hi.” Dante raised an eyebrow too.
“I know, I know what you’re thinking.” Seb held up his hands in self-defense, and leaned on the wall next to Dante. “First he acts like an emo, then the world is his oyster, then he starts psychoanalyzing himself for an invisible audience – and this is probably sufficient evidence to prove he belongs in an asylum. What is up with this kid?”
Ramble, ramble, ramble.
Dante slowly shifted an inch away from his new companion.
Seb looked up at him with a quieter smile. “Let’s start over. I’m Sebastian. I decided not to report you to the authorities.”
Dante was good at hiding emotions. But his gaze flickered a little as he replied, “what makes you say that?”
Seb flicked his wrist, pulling his own wallet from his pocket.
They stood there in silence for a while.
The couples swirled around, providing pleasure both for themselves and the onlookers. Hugo looked like a golden retriever, with a genuine expression as he listened to his partner’s words. A girl with bare feet skipped around her boy, and laughed, like wind-chimes.
“What I wonder,” Seb continued, “is why aren’t you out there and humiliating yourself, like you should be? Deprived me of a laugh.”

Lukas ignored Fynn’s joking. What did he know? But Lukas couldn’t keep from silently laughing at himself. He was suddenly being so defensive. And he knew why… Because, well… he really did like Livia, a lot. Like… a lot.
He blushed at his own thoughts. Maybe this was just a temporary feeling. Maybe Liv didn’t feel the same way. Maybe he was just creating this imaginary relationship to satisfy his desire to have something steady and sure in his life for once…
He barely noticed that his gaze had drifted from Liv, to the blur of moving people behind her.
She furrowed her brow. “Are you okay?”
He smiled. “Y-yeah. Fine. Totally. D-don’t worry a-about it.”
Sorryyyy, I just wanted to make sure Falon and Ev made it to the lessons before they were over, lol. Poor Tech. Ev will probably say hi to him there if he isn’t too distracted. 😉

“Yeah, I get that. I mean, you don’t get punished for messing it up, you’re just corrected. If you’re born Realn it’s as natural as walking, and putting your left hand over your heart just feels like a crime. If you’re not…it seems like a bunch of silly rules. Why not use the left hand, your right might be busy?” Nora stopped and laughed “Here I am talking so much! What of your culture?”
"You need French Toast."
December 21, 2023 at 8:40 pm #170677Hugo
Realn sounded like a fairy story.
“…Here I am talking so much! What of your culture?” Nar laughed, her curls thrown around her face, like a windswept flower.
She looked like a fairy too. Just a little.
“My culture?” Hugo blinked, and hesitated. “Um… let’s see.”
Nar probably thought he was looking for words. She stared up at him expectantly.
On the contrary, Hugo was looking for the right action. He might as well own himself.
He tapped his head, then gave a grand smile. The smile grew, until it seemed to weigh him down like an anvil; the shark teeth sharpened, and glinted like bits of metal in his mouth. The amber eyes grew within thick blackening lines.
Nar stepped back, but didn’t say anything.
“I’m sorry.” Hugo retreated his face, until left with a tame fraction of the warmth. “Culture is dictated by mindsets, sometimes inherited from politicians or parents long dead… that’s what my brother says. My world sometimes makes the mental, physical.”

“That’s… Unlike anything I’ve ever heard of… ” Nar’s mind wondered what her world would look like if that was the case, it certainly would be crazy. “Does that mean that if I think I’m a bird, I am one?”

Hugo
“I wish. Unfortunately my baby brother? Seb? He was the second to discover how people change. It depends on your long-term mental state, not whatever you want. And most of the time, these changes slowly intensify your worst beliefs… To use his words.”
They stood still now. Hugo hooked his thumbs in his pockets. “So… This, this face? It shows a peek at things my mind can’t let go.”
