Riker slowly nodded, smiling gently.
He held Paxton’s hand, firm but gentle.
Leo turned back around. “I have the-”
“All I’ve got to say is, you’re getting revenge for that scare I gave you the first night.”
Riker turned to see Marcel in the doorway, whose face was green.
Leo rose an eyebrow. “How did you…? Wait, you’re one of the kids Wolfgang’s talked about.”
Riker turned back to Paxton, gently stroking his cheek. “Doesn’t matter if it’s revenge or not. Paxton needs our help, and unless you’re going to help, we don’t need you in the way.” He turned his attention back to Paxton, smiling gently. “…Me and Leo are about to start, but it might hurt a little. You can squeeze my hand as much as you need to, okay?”
(wow, I didn’t see Riker snapping like that at Marcel 😅)
@godlyfantasy12 That was actually not terrible…..
but then again I can handle graphic stuff better if it’s written rather than shown. Like, a picture of a horribly scarred back like that might make me cringe, but reading it wasn’t so bad because my brain kinda automatically “censors” violence I read about (unless it involves disembodiment, which is a bit weird but ok).

Don’t worry about me, I’m good ❤️ I would just let you know that is… I mean, kinda inappropriate for a middle grade series? Just on like, a gore/violence scale. Like, I would definitely put your series in YA if you’ll be adding scenes like that, or as many abuse mentions we’ve had on this RP – um, yeah.
I don’t like having to say that because I don’t want you to feel horrible, okay? Just want to make sure, because topics like abuse can affect people just like language might, where they’ll get used to it and actually find satisfaction in it. Writing abuse isn’t bad in and of itself, just… idk what I’m trying to say 😅
I’m not scarred by it though ❤️

@whalekeeper ah, I gotcha, and yes my series I’ve already found out is going to be more in the YA realm 😅 but I’m actually okay with that, because I would really like to read YA, but am unable to due to its content, so it would be nice to be able to write YA that others like me can read, if that makes sense?

There’s a lot of conflict and sadness on here right now (and I’ve done it too a little, so I’m fine with being thrown under the bus), but I want Pax to be saved so the characters can have some fun and not be depressed all the time… We need some joy 😂 I almost feel like a wet blanket when saying that, or like I might hurt someone, which I don’t like feeling, but I’mma say it again – we need joy 😂😂

He approached the bed, and stood there, stoically expressionless now.
Pax had broken, splintered feather shafts, skin raised in red sores. Nothing seemed salvageable.
Marcel swallowed.
Clenched his fists.
”If he loses too many feathers, you can take a few of mine and graft them in.”

Paxton looked up at Marcel with wide eyes. The boy still looked a bit tired from the fight the day before but he forced a smile, wings drooping.
Paxton’s eyes stung with the sheer…gravity of Marcel’s words…
He’d…give some of his feathers up? From his wings? For…for Paxton? A flit? A wingless…good for nothing….
Paxton bit back a sob.
These people…all of them…
They really were his friends…
They really did care…
Before Riker and Leo could finish their assessment and help with Paxton’s wounds, he jumped from the bed, wrapping his arms around Marcel and hugging him tight.
GAAAAH MY HEART!
So Whaley…idk if you know the whole story behind Pax, but one of the main reasons he’s hated is because he was born Wingless. So what Marcel just said is like…beyond meaningful.

Marcel froze, wings puffed up, as if he had been caught doing something silly.
His cheeks went pink.
Once the hug had loosened a little, Marcel shrugged his leather jacket off, and awkwardly patted Pax’s head. “I’ve got too many feathers anyway. Itchy things, really…”
But his eyes were shinier than jewels.
He turned to Riker, with a completely serious expression now. “So? I’m sure if it isn’t possible scientifically, there’s some special magic somewhere that would work. I dunno… A pair of scissors made by unicorn centaurs, or something? Just need the right tools.”

Paxton…to everyone’s surprise…backed away from the hug….
Giggling.
His bright eyes sparkled with tears as he looked up at Marcel, a small smile on his face. He shook his head, refusing the offer, but…grateful for the gesture.
Marcel blinked at the kid in slight surprise, wether because of Pax’s laughter or refusal was unsure.
Paxton turned back to Riker and Leo looking…much lighter than before. And brighter. His face shown with a childlike gleam that…he hadn’t had in a while.
He even smiled; a large, bright smile, and giggled too, hopping back up onto the bed to let Leo and Riker finish up, kicking his legs against the bed gently.
The entire change of demeanor seemed to shock the group, but slowly, Leo and Riker got back to work.
Just a bit of explanation because I know this is like a 180 switch, but wings are just…a HUGE part of Paxton’s entire CULTURE.
Being born wingless effected his entire life (there are other things at play in the original series and his family but yea). If you lose your wings it effects you (depending on how/why) it can be a mark of shame, a punishment, or a mark of heroism if they were lost due to battle, etc, but even then it’s more of a “Oh poor soul” and the Icari HATE that because they’re such a proud people.
But the very idea of someone willingly giving or parting with their wings, or feathers, or anything of the sort; basically any purposeful harming of someone’s wings, for someone else, is like…crazy.
Harming your wings is like…the grossest shame for Icari’s.
(you know how when people feel worthless they begin To self deprecate? If you were an Icari, the best way to show you felt worthless would be, well, through your wings. Not caring for them, etc)

So I thought I should get this Rp for my charries out of the way, because it needed to happen to explain some things XD
And for context, in my book projest elites, all of the characters have powers, Evie/Evelyn has telepathic powers, Nash has weather control powers, Skylar/Blizzard has ice powers
Skylar is also a controled soldier, through a chip in her body, her and the other soldiers are only given two emotions, anger and joy (which plays a huge role in her arc)
But anyways, at this school she still has the chip but she’s been given a lot of freedom
Evie
“Blizzard,” Nash nodded at Skylar as she passed him and Evie.
Skylar stopped to look at them, her face going pale. “What are you guys doing here?”
“School mostly,” Evie shrugged.
Skylar was different, she seemed to have more control of herself.
“Who’s the boy you’ve been hanging with?” Nash raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms.
“Loki,”
“Would he approve of your past?”
“Look I don’t think we want to fight in this school, so for everyone’s sake, let’s just leave our backgrounds behind to enjoy school,”
“And when the school year ends?” Nash looked skeptical.
“We go back to Kirion, and handle life there,” Skylar looked confident, but Evie could see right through it.
“The chip, it’s still in you isn’t it?”
“We should go,” Skylar walked off, tears pricking at her eyes.
“She clearly has more emotions now,” Evie stated, seeing the pain in her eyes.
“We should let her live life here, she deserves that,”
Nash smiled at Evelyn.

Marc is stubborn tho, I know Pax refused, but in case they need him for it, he’ll probs stick around.

Marcel blinked. “Okay… But it might be best to keep me on hand, Pax, ‘cause you never know.”
He could tell just from looking, that some of those broken shafts might be the source of infections, and would definitely have to be removed.
And maybe Pax didn’t want full pairs of wings – which would be more than a little creepy to replace – but at least a few feathers, only a dozen, would make his back look so much stronger.
But the kid was already giggling like a madman at the thought.
Maybe a whole set of flight feathers would send him into a hysterics…
Marcel left Pax to be tended to by Leo, and came up to the still surprised Riker. He stretched his broken wing with a soft hiss, to get the kinks out, then pulled out his flip phone. “Here’s my number… Oh, chicken nuggets, don’t look at my contact name, please. My mom has a sense of humor… So if you need some replacements, I’m cool with it, as long as you have anesthetics or something.”
Riker didn’t seem to know what to say.
Marcel pushed it farther, spreading out his wings until they curled around his phone. “I literally have too many, dude. Just don’t tell Paxton, if you think it’ll make him upset. Cool?”
