Near the front of the room, crowded together on one side, sat the Icari boys andā¦ others. Obviously the bully type, from their half lidded eyes and evil smiles. Some were quite older than Marcel had expected; perhaps two or three seniors leaned quietly close to their winged allies.
Aramis didnāt even give him a glance. Instead he wore a gleaming white smile, arms folded casually.
They didnāt seem focused on anyone in particular, but that could change.
Marcel hadā¦ mostly easily taken the two flying Icari down. But one of them hadn’t even been trying. And even if he equipped his fancy wings and a fair share of luck, there was no way Marcel could handle half a dozen students in good conscience, and not end up dead.
Marcel wrote a note, and passed it in Wolfgangās direction.
Sup. If you check up on P in dorm after class, Iāll keep an eye on him at dinnertime.

He couldnāt see Wolfieās face as the note was read. (His Inner Eyes were too exhausted from homework.) For all he knew, the young boy could be throwing darts of fire his way. But it didn’t matter.
It was the only sensible thing to do – but not because Marcel had a tight personal connection with Paxton, like Wolfie did. Because he didnāt. He barely knew the boy at all, and he didn’t feel emotionally distraught at the immediate thought of him. It was more ofā¦ what did Cal call it? Personal principle. A nagging tug in his stomach. Something any sane civilian would feel in a time of crisis. Which was a good sign if he was going to become a hero some day.
Untypical of him to be playing nurse at boarding school, though.
Whatever.
Besides, Cal would take over once he found out how fragile their secret invalid really was.

He’d check on Paxton after class, and then Marcel could….but Wolfgang would keep an eye on him.
