Angelina
Angelina slowly nodded. “Okay…okay…thank you. It’s just…Riker’s said many times that we need to keep this a secret…but I don’t know why…and I can’t hold it in anymore.”
Jakob squeezed her hand, urging her to continue.
Angelina took in a deep breath. “You see…Riker should have graduated by now…last year, actually…but he didn’t…I guess he had to repeat a grade…and…and maybe that’s why he studies so much…and…” she took in another deep breath, “our Dad doesn’t like it…”
Jocelyn nodded, listening and urging for her to continue.
“Riker will sometimes disappear into his room for long periods of time…listening and making music…and…he…he…he hides bruises…he has one right now on his wrist…bruises from…from…our Dad.”
Leo
“November! Wait!” Riker yelled, taking off after the curly haired boy.
Leo followed him, just as the teacher walked into the room.
So what if Leo missed another class!?
Maybe his stepbrothers would find out…maybe his mother would find out…
Leo’s mouth went dry. His heartrate increased.
Maybe he’d be beaten.
But November…he obviously needed someone…a….friend.
Someone who understood him.
Finally, up ahead, Riker had caught up to November, and had gently grabbed his arm, stopping him. “November…hey…what’s wrong…?” Riker asked, worry in his dark blue eyes.
Leo stopped beside them, laying a hand on November’s shoulder. “Come on, November…you can tell us…”

Lyn cupped her mouth, eyes widening. “Your…” She glanced at her brother up ahead, who had stopped in his tracks, turning around, eyes wide and ears slicked back to his head. His face was pale, tails wrapped around his legs. His eyes told her that…he wasn’t in the school anymore…
No…he was…somewhere else…
Lyn slowly turned to Angelina, and gently grabbed the girls hands, “Angelina…is your father…abusing your brother?” She whispered.
November
November jerked as Leo gripped his shoulder gently. November stated at the two young men, eyes wide.
What…what were they doing here…?
“Y-You’ll miss your…”
Leo shook his head, “Doesn’t matter. Are you okay?”
November swallowed, tugging at one of his curls. Riker tilted his head.
“The…things that…guy Said back there. Was that true? I mean about your dad and the headmistress, not…not the other stuff.”
November frowned, looking away. He nodded. “I…I’m not supposed to…to be in this grade…” He admitted, his heart falling just at the words. “I failed last year…” He tried to weigh the two’s expressions, but couldn’t make them out. He shrunk away slightly, hoping they wouldn’t hate him like some of the others did.
“But…you did make it. To the next grade.”
He nodded. “My…my dad. He…he talked to the headmistress. I…I don’t know what he did, or said but…All I know is, here I am,” he shrugged. He tried for a smile, but it fell short. “H-Honestly I’m a bit surprised you two haven’t heard about it…it’s um, pretty common gossip around here…”

Angelina
Abusing?
She’d never heard that word before…at least not used for her father.
They said it was “discipline” and “raising”…not…that word…”No one has ever used that word…” Angelina whispered.
But maybe…maybe that was the right word.
“Is…is that what abusing is…?”
Jakob nodded. “One way of doing so.” He squeezed her hand tighter, and Angelina looked up at him.
He had suddenly tensed when the subject came up.
“I…I guess that’s what it is…I…I thought it was normal…” Angelina whispered softly. (The poor sweetheart! When she was young in my actual book, she thought it was normal too. *sobs*)
Riker
“H-Honestly I’m a bit surprised you two haven’t heard about it…it’s um, pretty common gossip around here…”
November had failed his last year…?
That…that meant…November…understood.
Riker’s hand rested on November’s shoulder. “November…I understand…but you’re not stupid.”
November merely shrugged.
“Hey, can you face me…?” Riker asked softly.
November slowly did so.
Riker smiled faintly. “Can I tell you and Leo a little secret…?”
Leo and November both nodded.
Riker took in a deep breath. Oh, he’d never told anyone this…except Iris…of course. “I failed my 11th year too at my old school. I had to repeat it…I failed so bad. And so far, I’m still failing this year. So, November…if you’re stupid…then I am too.”
November shook his head. “N-no Riker, you-you’re not! You’re not stupid!”
Riker smiled, grabbing November’s shoulders. Their eyes met. “Then neither are you.”
Leo
Riker and November…they…they…they would both understand.
No, they did understand. “Hey, Riker…November…you can’t tell anyone this…but…I have something to say…”
They both turned to face him, and Leo took in a deep breath, preparing himself for sharing something he hadn’t shared with anyone.
Not even his brothers.
“I…I’m failing too…but I have to keep it a secret…my stepbrothers and stepmom…they wouldn’t like it…”
Riker smiled faintly and motioned for him.
Leo walked over, and Riker draped his arms around both Leo and November’s shoulders. “Well, looks like we’re all together. So, Leo, November, do either of you think I’m stupid?”
“Of course not.” Leo replied. November shook his head.
Riker smiled. “Then none of us are…alright? Maybe we struggle…but we’re not stupid…alright?”

@freedomwriter76 AWW ANGE!! It’s okay…November doesn’t realize what his father does is Abuse either!! He understands physical abuse, but if it’s not physical it’s not abuse right? That’s how he views it and it’s like NOO BABY!!! @wilder-w

Jocelyn’s heart shattered.
“Uncle? Can…can I ask you something?”
“Anything Lyn, darling!”
“Why…why did you lie to me?”
A tear streamed down Lyn’s face. Wordlessly, she wrapped her arms around Angelina. “I understand…really. I do.”
She gazed over at her brother, whose ears were still glued to his head, tails now held tightly in his hands. His eyes stared at the ground, wide and shaking.
“We do…” Lyn breathed.
She released Angelina slowly. “Listen…” she spoke softly, “What…what your father’s doing…to your brother…it…it isn’t right.” Lyn tucked a strand of blonde hair away. “Sadly…I…I don’t have all of the answers on what to do. If…if I did, I would’ve fixed…some other things I know about…or at least have a feeling about…” Her mind flashed to November.
But without any proof….
Verbal and mental abuse was so much harder to prove…especially when the abusee didn’t even know they were being abused.
She shook her head. “But we know what’s happening here…and…” She bit her lip. “I know you want to keep it a secret…and Riker told you to…but this is serious. Dangerous even…Someone needs to know. Someone who can help.”
November
November’s eyes brightened at Leo and Riker’s words.
They…they understood too…
At least, to some degree…
Though, he couldn’t get rid of his father’s voice in the back of his mind, telling him the truth of the matter.
No matter what anyone did say…
He knew he never really measured up. Nor would he…
But…still, Riker and Leo’s words made him feel better, if slightly.
He smiled.
November looked at Leo, “So you’re…keeping it a secret for everyone?”
Leo sighed, then nodded. “Well…I’ve tried anyway…but, it looks like Edrich and Aramis know….”
November paled. Riker shook his head, fists clenched.
“Why can’t you tell your brothers? I mean…other then Adolphus and Dietrich…?”
November ventured. He ran a hand through his hair, wincing slightly at the rawness of his scalp.

Hunter and Omega
“Hey,” said one of the human boys. “I’m William, and this is my friend Ezra.”
“This is my first day too, so welcome.” said the other boy, waving.
Omega flicked her tail. “Cool! My name’s Omega. And over there is my brother, Hunter.” She waved at him with her wing, signaling him to come over. “These two are William and Ezra.” she explained to him. “They’re new here, too!”
“Oh…cool. H-hi.” Hunter told them. “Do you guys know….do you know where our classes are supposed to be? I don’t see them from here….”
[you are allowed to put them in any class you want!]
Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.

Angelina felt tears threaten. “But-but who could…? W-wouldn’t there be n-nothing they could do…? W-wouldn’t it only make R-Riker get in m-more trouble?” She asked, voice and body beginning to tremble.
Her knees wobbled beneath her, and Jakob wrapped an arm around her, keeping her standing.
“I-is there anything any-anyone could even-even do?”
Leo
“Why can’t you tell your brothers? I mean…other then Adolphus and Dietrich…?”
Leo’s gaze fell.
Why hadn’t he told his brothers…?
“I…I guess I don’t want them to worry…” Leo ran a hand through his black, wavy locks, “and…I-I guess I was afraid to tell them…even though I had no reason to…”
(They’re about to miss a 2nd class…heh…would they get in trouble?)

“Do you guys know….do you know where our classes are supposed to be? I don’t see them from here….” Hunter asked, looking around, eyes squinted to see better.
“What class do you have?” Ezra asked, pulling out his phone to get the map.
“Science!” Omega replied.
“Hey, so do we! What are the odds?” William asked with a wink.
Ezra pulled up the map. “Yeah, so, since we’re all going there, follow me, I’ve got the map.”
And they set off, Ezra leading the way, Hunter falling into step beside him, Omega walking with William.

Jayden pushed up on his glasses, holding his books in his other hand.
There were…so…so many students…
He gulped.
He looked around the room, looking for an open seat, when a blonde haired, blue eyed girl called out to him. “Hey! You can sit next to me!” The girl called, waving, a seat right next to her open.
Jayden quickly shuffled over, sitting in between her and a white-haired young boy, likely not much younger than Jayden.
“I’m Aadelheide, this is my brother, Abelard,” she said, motioning to the blonde on her other side, who waved and smiled, “and…OH MY GOODNESS! I DIDN’T EVEN GET YOUR NAME! What’s your name?” She asked, turning to the white-haired boy.
