Hebrews 11:8 NIV — By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.

Hebrews 11:17 NIV — By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son,

The theif on the cross didn’t need to be baptized. Even in modern day, we don’t convict someone for things that where done before a law was passed.

I’m… prrreeEtty dArn certain Jesus’ words on that cross are still relevant today.

Jesus’ disciples taught, and we listen to them, but they were originally taught by Jesus. I trust in His choices unless they were clearly reinterpreted later in the Scriptures. And like I said before, all those verses about baptism are more likely to be about spiritual baptism, given the cross event. Why hypothesize something changed, when all these passages easily coexist?

I’m not downplaying the importance of baptism at all. Physical baptism is a good work, just like the fruits pf the Spirit, and is an incredibly important milestone in the Christian life.

Yes, faith without good works is dead. If a Christian refused to be baptized, or refused to openly live out their faith, I would be concerned. That’s a real problem, and I’m not one of those people who doesn’t care how Christians live their lives.

But if somebody is faced towards the Light at the time of their death, why should we lock them out of heaven because they didn’t have time on Earth to take the ‘appropriate’ steps? The works do not save the person, the FAITH does. Spiritual baptism (the bestowing of the Holy Spirit) is the essential, real baptism.

Answer this question. If an old man realizes he believes in Jesus, and he is on his deathbed – and he doesn’t have time to be baptized – will he go to hell?

              Basically, everything @whalekeeper said. XD

If someone walked into a room and shouted fire, I could say I believe them all I want to, but if I have faith in what they are saying, I will actually get out of the building.

What if you believe them, but the door jams and you can’t access a window? Sometimes baptism is not possible, and to say that someone who is unable to be baptized is going to Hell because of that sounds a lot like works based salvation. A lot of churches don’t baptize people until they’re in their teens. What if a five year old believer gets hit by a car and dies? Does she go to Hell?

By the way @peoples, do you all baptize infants? Why or why not?

Ok, I wasn’t gonna get into this conversation, but now here I am, lol.

I’d be careful about pulling out specific verses without carefully examining the context of the rest of the passage… but if you want to look at specific verses then I’d suggest looking at other verses that also talk about being saved.

“…From the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.” (2 Thessalonians 2:13)

“And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Acts 2:21, Joel 2:28-30)

“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” (Romans 10:9-10)

Yes, I took these verses without regard to the full context, but that’s simply to prove how easy it is to pull verses out about a specific topic without really looking at the whole message of the passage.

                  There is also this one:

[The jailer] then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved- you and your household.” (Acts 16:30-31)

In context, the jailer and his family do end up being baptized, but if you’re looking at that verse alone, it says nothing about baptism being a requirement to being saved. Draw your own conclusions either way from this passage; if you ask me, I don’t think it’s necessary for salvation but I do think it’s an important step in sanctification and all believers should be baptized if possible.

As to @theducktator ‘s question, my church does not practice infant baptism. Firstly, I don’t recall seeing examples of it in Scripture (correct me if I’m wrong), but the baptisms that take place are all adults (or at least those who are old enough to make their own decision to do it). We do practice child dedication, which is simply praying over the child and the parents, dedicating the child to God and asking for His wisdom for the parents to be able to raise them well and train them up in the ways of the Lord.

No, we don’t do infant baptism. We will baptize children who understand what baptism is ect. and want to be baptized (I was baptized at 6 years old for instance), but we don’t baptize infants. While a soul is the same size no matter the age, we believe baptism must be a choice just like the rest of salvation, a decision on the individual’s part made in faith. A baby can’t make that decision themselves.

We dedicate newborns but don’t baptize them.

                      @the_lost-journal @anyone-else

What are your thoughts on Jesus having siblings?

The Bible says that He does, and I am going to believe it.

If you could visit one of the holy sights from around the world, where would you go? And why?

I’m not sure! I think it would be really cool, but honestly I’m content to just read about them. I’m not big on traveling and I don’t know that the experience would be a big deal for me, idk XDXD

If you could go back in time and change something you said to someone else, that wasn’t very christ like, what would you say instead?

There’s a lot of things. Just being a little more patient I guess? Why do you believe in christ? What is your proof?

Why do you believe in your denomination?

I don’t really believe in a denomination XD I am part of an Evangelical church but I kind of disagree with denominations…simply because I wish we would all be united in Christ, like we were meant to be. Instead we all argue about who’s wrong and who’s right! I think conflict just makes me mad lol

Try to name as many virtues a christian should have off of the top of your head! (please don’t look up anything) and why do you think these are the needed virtues?

I think we need to be more loving and less judgemental.

Is there one person/group of people that you wish you could go up to and preach freely to without out fear of judgment or criticism from them?

Not really…I love sharing my faith with people and I’ve already accepted the fact that most people aren’t going to convert right away XD I have a strong passion for wanting to share Jesus with everyone! I’ve never really been afraid of judgement or criticism because of my faith–I’ve already accepted that it’s going to happen sometimes and I don’t need to let it get to me. They’re lost sheep and they need Jesus, and why should I let them stop me simply because they can’t see it yet?

Do you get nervous or scared whenever you try to talk about your faith to others?

A little bit, yeah, but I love it. Jesus gives me the words to say and I have coworkers and friends who aren’t Christians. I do my best to share my faith with how I act, what I wear, and the words I say. My faith is a part of me, and to me sharing my faith isn’t much different than telling someone I have blue eyes. I can get nervous, but I push through it because there are so many lost people that we need to reach.

Do you believe that you can deserve God’s love? Or do you think you need to earn it? Can anyone amount to God’s love?

Nope. No one can earn it. And I definitely don’t deserve it. My tiny brain can’t even imagine the vastness of God’s love.

                      Why do you doubt?

Because I still have a lot of questions and I overthink a lot lol

But every time I get scared and the inner skeptic wants to run away from Jesus, I always go back. Jesus snatches me up and brings me back home! Even when I TRY to run away, I just can’t escape from him <3

If you could go back to one point in the Old Testament, and one point in the New Testament, where would you go?

I’m not sure!!!! Picking one point is too hard XD

Do you pray before every meal, before bed, when you get up in the morning, and whenever you get an excuse to?

I’m really bad at praying before meals…but when I remember I do! I try to pray before bed or in the mornings but I don’t have a routine. I feel like sometimes I’m just constantly praying in my head, and I don’t always talk to God with words, but I know that he knows my heart and I can talk to him with my emotions when I can’t find the words to express how I feel.

What is the main thing you pray about every time you pray?

I just talk to God about anything and everything…I ask him what I should wear in the mornings or what to eat or just about my life. It’s so cool that he really cares about me!

Have you ever intentionally  harmed someone?

                      Yes, because I’m a human.

Why did Jesus die for you?

You know, I really don’t know. I’m not anything special and I’m certainly not perfect.

And this makes it so much more beautiful because when you think about it, there’s really no logical reason He died for us. His love must be so incredible that He did that for US! Because he LOVES us. And that kind of love blows my mind.
