How do I put this??? 🤔😅
We believe that the Holy Spirit, of course, comes into someone when they accept Christ, but Baptism by Fire (or the Baptism of the Holy Spirit), for my church, comes when the Holy Spirit fully comes into someone’s life, and often also involves the showing of spiritual gifts such as speaking in tongues, the power to heal, etc. It can come before someone is baptized by water (if they’re ever baptized by water, bc some people aren’t🤷🏻♀️), after, or even at the same time.
(for me personally I was baptized by water and received the Holy Spirit at the same time, but a lot of people are different)
It can happen at any time, and isn’t necessarily a “sacrament”, but rather kinda just a way of referring to the power of the Holy Spirit and how it brings eternal change when it comes into us and we allow it to work within us.
That’s just the best way I can personally explain it😅
January 24, 2025 at 4:39 pm #195914(and before anyone asks, yes, I believe that speaking in tongues, miracles, prophecy, etc are for us today just as much as they were for the disciples and the beginning of the church)
January 24, 2025 at 5:26 pm #195922Oh, I see, so it can happen whenever. That makes sense, since a ceremony wouldn’t trigger something like that.
comes when the Holy Spirit fully comes into someone’s life
This is where I’ve not understood this before. 😅 Do you believe those spiritual gifts are necessary if you are going to fully take in the Holy Spirit? Does that mean you can partially have the Spirit? Does that mean one Christian can have more of the Spirit than another?
I promise I’m just curious. One of my besties is a Pentecostal, and I’ve been hesitant to ask. I don’t want to convince you otherwise, I’ve just never understood how this idea works.

I don’t believe they are necessary, no, but I do believe they are available to every Christian if they desire/hunger for it, and spiritual gifts vary from person to person.
Not everyone will speak in tongues, nor is that the most important “spiritual gift” (despite what some Pentecostals think) because each gift is special/different.
No, I don’t think someone can only have only a part of the Holy Spirit (I worded things a little weird😅), nor that another Christian has more of the Spirit than another.
I just believe that spiritual gifts are a physical manifest/visible proof of the Holy Spirit, but it’s appearance varies from person to person
Hopefully that might clear up a few things😅

By the way, I don’t know your friend, but I’m gonna guess she would love your questions. We usually like sharing, even if we’re shy about it sometimes. And if your bestie doesn’t know exactly, getting your questions may be a great place for her to find the “why” for herself.
Or you can ask on here like you did. XD
I absolutely agree that Jesus has an experience for everyone if they’re hungry! I love hearing the stories of His wonder at work where no one would guess. I also fully agree that all the gifts and the fruit of the Spirit are in God’s power to give to any spirit filled believer. God has so much in store for all of us! I feel like too often we get satisfied with the dry wilderness when He is the rock following behind, just waiting for us to come and drink.
*preaches to self here*
I am curious though. Do you not separate Tongues(for personal edification/to God alone/initial sign of Holy Spirit baptism) from Tongues(For the edification of the church/interpretation)? We do because Paul does, but I understand many don’t.
You have listened to fears, child. Come, let me breathe on you... Are you brave again? -Aslan
January 25, 2025 at 2:05 am #195965I agree with @freed_and_redeemed that God definitely is still using speaking in tongues, miracles, and prophecy is church today!!! 😁
Though, I do also believe that if you don’t speak in tongues, you don’t have Gods Spirit dwelling in you (Haven’t been born of the Spirit/baptized with the Spirit/by fire.) I can go into detail if you want, but it might get long. (I can ramble. 😬😉)
I think that a lot of people confuse speaking in tongues (Just personally praying in tongues to yourself and to God) and tongues and interpret (A message from God for a specific group, moment, situation.) This Tuesday I listened/watched a live service from a conference in Louisiana that was powerful and had examples of both. If you are interested https://www.youtube.com/live/uS0RI51NN5Y?si=fMq7WWh2335F8oY3 Praying/speaking in tongues happened all throughout service, but tongues and interpret went forth at a little after 2:40:00 (It seemed to be one of the longest ones I’ve heard) I want to say there also was a good example of part of what Paul meant in 1Co 14:27 (If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret.) It sounded like two gentlemen started interpreting different parts of the message at the same time, and the preacher quickly told one to wait.

Interesting discussion! I also believe the spiritual gifts are still active today. I grew up learning that they are still in operation, but there were certain ones that I had more skepticism about for a while, until I started learning more about them and gained more discernment.

I don’t really have much time to type out a summary of my beliefs regarding the gifts of the Holy Spirit. However, I did find a good article on the Gift of Tongues:
https://www.catholic.com/audio/scw/the-gift-of-tongues
It’s kind of longish. I’ll probably pop back here and talk about it more briefly so y’all don’t have to read it XD

Hello again! It has been some time since we have answered questions! Here is a list of new ones.
- How big is your church? (if you go to church.)
- What is one thing you disagree/don’t understand with a different denomination?
- What is your opinion on Mary?
- What is one thing you don’t understand about your own denomination?
- Do you have (or did you ever have) a friend that has (or had) a negative impact on your faith?
- Where do you usually go for a place to pray to God? (It could be your favorite place, either inside or outside your own home.)
- If your friend ever has a question about God, how do you answer?
- Do you believe that God created everything, or that evolution had a hand.
- What are your plains to grow in the faith?
- And finally, how do you feel on calling Christianity, a faith? (… I totally didn’t get this last one based on a friendly argument some people had… *cough cough)

January 28, 2025 at 8:16 am #196185January 28, 2025 at 8:43 am #196186How big is your church? (if you go to church.)
Hm, I would say it is bigger than most churches. We get about nine thousand people for Christmas Eve mass… So I guess that IS a lot…
What is one thing you disagree/don’t understand with a different denomination?
I don’t fully know the reason why many denominations get rid of the sacraments. I don’t mean to offend anyone, I just don’t really understand what your belief is on them. Could another denomination friend answer my question on that?
What is your opinion on Mary?
Catholics honor her for being the Mother of God, so we do prayer to her. We prayer to her, asking for her to pray for us, to save us from eternal suffering ^-^
What is one thing you don’t understand about your own denomination?
Hm, I can’t think rn, I will come back to this one.
Do you have (or did you ever have) a friend that has (or had) a negative impact on your faith?
Ha, I think I still have… But not exactly… LOL… He kinda is my best friend, so his influence on me is about as any good male best friend can be. (He is catholic though, so I guess this doesn’t really count…)
Where do you usually go for a place to pray to God? (It could be your favorite place, either inside or outside your own home.)
I can only do it during Autumn, Spring, and Summer… But, I love to go out on my roof and sit and be quit with God!
If your friend ever has a question about God, how do you answer?
I try to answer it the best of my ability. Especially if they already don’t believe in him! I try making it clear and understandable, so that way it isn’t too confusing and they actually get a decent answer.
Do you believe that God created everything, or that evolution had a hand *in it*.
Forgot the “in it” part. But I believe that God created the earth, and everything in it. (man, we are doing an intruder drill right now at school… I keep getting interrupted 😂😂😂) I believe that he made everything to his likeness, and that evolution is 0% real. (at least for the creation of the earth.)
What are your plains to grow in the faith?
I am hoping to receive confirmation this year in the spring!!!!!!!!!! (That is a big deal for catholics! I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) And right now I am serving in Sunday school with fourth graders. (I teach them I mean)
And finally, how do you feel on calling Christianity, a faith? (… I totally didn’t get this last one based on a friendly argument some people had… *cough cough)
*cough cough* I think it is a religion! (A TYPO)

January 28, 2025 at 9:14 am #196188How big is your church? (if you go to church.)
Roughly 1700-1800
What is one thing you disagree/don’t understand with a different denomination?
Ummm… probably the biggest thing is what some of us were discussing above, regarding whether or not spiritual gifts are still active in the church today (I believe they are).
What is your opinion on Mary?
She’s the mother of Jesus. God chose her for that special purpose, in the same way that He chose other figures in the Bible for certain purposes. I don’t worship her or pray to her.
What is one thing you don’t understand about your own denomination?
Well I’m non-denom, so there’s not really anything my church does that I don’t understand. But the one thing that does frustrate me sometimes is using colored lights and fog and other “special effects”- like what good purpose does that serve? It usually ends up being more distracting to me.
Do you have (or did you ever have) a friend that has (or had) a negative impact on your faith?
The majority of my friends have been good friends. Not all of them have actively pushed me to grow closer to God, but they didn’t necessarily hinder my faith. I’ve been careful about pursuing friendships that will help me to grow in my faith.
Where do you usually go for a place to pray to God? (It could be your favorite place, either inside or outside your own home.)
Well, I talk to Him literally anywhere, anytime of day, so it’s hard to define one place where I pray. But if I need a place to be alone with Him for an extended period of time, my bedroom offers the most solitude.
If your friend ever has a question about God, how do you answer?
The majority of my friends believe the same I do, so I don’t often run into this problem. The one friend I do have who isn’t a believer doesn’t talk to me very much anymore, and she’s aware of what I believe but doesn’t ask me about it.
Do you believe that God created everything, or that evolution had a hand.
Creation- it makes way more sense than evolution.
What are your plains to grow in the faith?
Continue surrounding myself with Godly people who will encourage me to grow, and keep up a habit of daily spending alone time with God and reading the Bible.
And finally, how do you feel on calling Christianity, a faith?
I don’t have a problem with it. Not that I’ve ever really thought about it before.
