Eva
Eva smiled faintly as Arabella drifted off to sleep.
She kept her arms around the girl.
It provided warmth to them both.
Eva smiled as she saw Naja, curled inside Alyona’s shawl, lying next to Alyona, sound asleep.
She hadn’t been happy to leave her Daddy, but Eva had been able to calm her down.
Eva smiled, yawned, and slowly drifted off to sleep.
Ezra
The stone floor was cold.
Almost freezing cold.
But there was worse.
At least November and Viktor were covered up.
But they were all huddling together for warmth.
Beside him, Riker kept shifting.
“Do you mind?” Ezra asked quietly, careful to not wake the others.
Riker shifted and turned to face him.
Ezra’s brown eyes met Riker’s dark blue. “Sorry.”
“Can’t sleep or something?” Ezra asked.
Riker glanced around the room. Franz, still unconscious, laid on the other side of Riker, breathing softly.
Ezra raised an eyebrow. “Well?”
“I never can anymore. Not…well, at least. And even if I do fall asleep, I normally wake back up.”
“Care to explain why?”
“Nightmares. Regrets. Guilt. I see all the people I’ve killed…the horrible things I’ve done…” Riker took in a deep breath. “Never mind. Ezra, this is my problem. Go to sleep.”
Ezra bit his lip.
He didn’t want to be pushy.
He sighed and laid back into a comfortable position. At some point in the night, he finally fell asleep.
Poor Riker. U and Ara can make a club of “No-Sleep-Guilt Riders!”

Rat-tat-tat
Screams, loud garbled voices. Zeroing in on his target, safety off.
Another kick shatters the door. Three more steps.
His feet pound down the stairs, racing against time. Flames snatch at his legs, slowing him down.
Another door swings open sending a stream of fire ripping through the walls.
A high pitch whistle. Eyes tear to the sky as the shell screams home.
Then silence as the world falls apart.
Mikkel gasped, jolting awake. Good knight, this floor’s frigid through sweat soaked clothes.
Sleep isn’t for weaklings.
He sat up, jamming his helmet back in place, slipping on his rifle. Mikkel pushed himself to a standing position.
From the height of the sun on the sky, he’s slept for a few hours. Maybe five. Probably less.
What does sleep mater anyway?
