Viktor nodded and looked up at the window. Why did he suddenly feel nervous? He’d done this – loved doing this.

He closed his eyes with a sigh and leaned his head against the stone, listening to the rock breathe. Not that rock actually breathed, but he liked to think it did. Surely if a rock could sing praises to the Lord it had to breathe.

Ignoring the obvious lack in that theology, he reached up and took hold of the wall. One foot found a place to rest, then the other followed.

In one, two, three, he was levering himself onto the sill.
