Reaction set in. She was, after all, just a young girl.
Young and scared half to death like she’d never been before.
Asher’s arms were around her and Jayden, and Verity’s arms were wrapped around Jayden. She started crying too. But Verity forced her sobs into sniffles and rested her head on Jayden’s shoulder. She heard the fear in his voice and recognized it as something as far beyond anything she had ever experienced.
“I’m here too.”
*joins you in sobbing forever*
Payton
Payton never gave Sorren’s body a second thought. That murderous scoundrel. Payton was fine. Well, alright, getting choked isn’t exactly something you call fine. But after Sorren let him go, shame was what filled him. Not sheer panic.
He stared at the floor feeling so awkward and hopelessly out of place. All this emotion…. He turned from the scene around Jayden to Leon and that strange girl. He waited to hear her name too.
Trevyn
Trevyn’s legs went weak again. This time he felt like he was going to fall to the floor. THat spreading pool of blood turned his stomach. Don’t get sick here in front of all these people….
More blood…
And he could still hear the sickening thud of a full-grown man’s body hitting the floor.
He turned so fast the world almost spinned.
Verity, get back over here. Please.
But he couldn’t do nothing.
He crept up softly to Asher, Verity, and Jayden, wishing the words in his heart wouldn’t stick in his throat.

It felt as though the floor had given way beneath her.
Little brother. Little brother. Little brother.
The words spun around her head until she was dizzy. Her breath hitched in her throat and her heart hurt.
She grasped her chest, hoping it was too conspicuous, though at the moment she couldn’t really think clearly.
Asher’s words to Jayden was all she could focus on.
Little brother. Little brother. Little brother.
Baby…brother….
“Cori!”
Corvina nearly screamed at the memory.
The little bounce in his step. The sparkle in his eyes. The way his smile lit up the room. Way he could just….make everything better.
Make everything brighter.
The way he loved her.
Tears sprung to Corvina’s eyes.
Horrible, stupid tears.
She bit her cheek until the pain made the memories leave, burying them far far away once more.
Stupid, stupid, stupid!
She looked away, blinking away the tears.
“Can’t hide from it forever…”
Be. Quiet.
”Just sayin’.”
BE. QUIET.
She almost didn’t hear the man in front of her begin speaking. She startled slightly and hated herself for it. Great, now she looked like a scared rabbit.
She could hear her inner self snickering at her.
““I’m Leon. I’m sorry…this…was the first thing you had to walk into.” He smiled softly. “What’s your name?
Oh…right.
Formalities.
She sighed, crossing her arms and turning her head until her ebony hair fell over one eye.
“Ah…” She frowned, now caught off guard.
Why was everything so hard recently?
“Corvina,” she muttered.

The girl seemed startled, ashamed…something.
Leon gave her a small smile that he hoped was reassuring.
“Are you…okay? You can join us, you know.”

Like, I could write a fanfiction centered around November and be totally and completely satisfied. 😍 (pfft, I might one day. Do Ara, too. “Thanks,” he whispered, giving a shaky grin. This castle was getting on his nerves. He needed to get out…
Verity grabbed her friend’s hand and pulled him into a bear hug.
Then she tugged at Asher’s sleeve. When she had his attention, she said quietly, with a side glance a Jayden,
“We should probably to get out of this place.”

”Are you…okay? You can join us, you know.” Leon’s smile softened even more and Corvina stiffened.
She stared at him for a moment and then glanced at the group on the floor, now hugging each other. Her heart fell for a second. A small, minuscule piece of her wishing she too were in that pile….
“Now that’s funny.”
She sucked in a breath.
Had to agree with that one.
Her eyes narrowed as she returned her gaze back to Leon. She didn’t need his sympathy. Or his pity.
She didn’t need anyone.
“Yea, I think I’d rather not get involved in your little.. ‘love fest’ if you don’t mind.” She returned her stoic stare and then looked away. Leon’s smile disappeared and he seemed a bit taken aback at her answer.
She felt a tiny twinge of regret but she quickly squashed it. After all, did she really want to get into the middle of that? She wondered as she looked again at the mess of emotions that was everyone huddle on the floor near Jayden.
The last man, whose name she’d finally figured out in her head was Payton-the one who’d almost been choked a few moments earlier, was also staring at her. She met his eyes and have him a look, daring him to speak too.
Ugh. These people.
So…annoying.
People in general could be so annoying.
“Then why not just leave?” Her voice smirked.
She swallowed.
It…was a good question.
Because…maybe they can get me to the princess.
”Mhmm. Is that the real reason?”
Oh hush.
She was really getting tired of herself.

Mhmm…a tough shelled heart. Leon could tell something was wrong.
But he wouldn’t push her.
He’d only just now met her.
“Well…if you’d rather not, that’s fine,” Leon smirked slightly, “but, if you’d rather wander alone in a dark, camp castle, that’s your choice, too.”
Corvina stared at him.
Leon smiled faintly. “Two can play your game, Corvina.”

“We should probably get out of this place.” Verity said quietly, with a slight glance at Jayden.
Asher nodded. “We should. Hey, Jayden, little brother, you good?”
Jayden slowly sat up, wiping away his final tears. “Yeah. But I…I do want to get out of here.”
Asher nodded. Slowly helped Jayden, Verity, and Trevyn to their feet.
He turned to look at Leon, Payton, and the girl, Corvina, he had heard. “Are y’all coming or what?”
