OKIE I AM HERE! Sorry y’all had stuff going on today and yesterday and then slept the rest of the day 🤣
November
November opened the door, his stomach growling at the smells of fresh bread. Much more appealing then Zlatan and Vulkasin’s rations.
The door opened and they were met with light and warmth from a fire in a hearth. November grinned at the sight of food, sad did Lyn who immediately entered, ducking under November’s arm.
”Whoop! Great job, love!” She exclaimed, picking up the fox and giving him a quick nuzzle. He smirked and gave a purr.
November followed Lyn, headed straight for the bread and stew. It smelled delicious, and Nyx must’ve had the same thought because he’d leapt from Lyn’s arms and was inspecting the bowl anxiously, his nose twitching in anticipation.
”Mm…” November groaned softly.
”Smells good.” Ara spoke from behind.
Lyn had already grabbed a piece of bread and jumped on a counter, sitting with her legs crossed under her.
“Vait!” Zlatan cried just before Lyn took a bite and November grabbed another piece.
Vulkasin glanced at his brother, also confused and Nyx’s fur ruffled.
”Seriously?” His ears twitched in annoyance.
But Zlatan’s eyes ticked through the room.
“This bread and stew is fresh…” His eyes narrowed as he stepped in. “Somev’one’s been here.”
November paled and stepped away from the bread. He hadn’t even thought about it belonging to someone else. Lyn too seemed to consider that for a moment, eyeing her piece.
Nyx, however, just seemed to sigh and pouted, lying himself flat on the table. He waited as Zlatan motioned to Vulkasin to help him search the room.
Ara stepped back against the counter where Lyn sat, as did November. Sofia stood in the doorway, glancing outside for any signs of an intruder.

THAT IS PERFECT!!!! Exactly what Zlatan would do! XD
Now who’s turn?
First Grand Historian of Arreth and the Lesser Realms (aka Kitty)
Fork the GorkMay 10, 2022 at 11:56 pm #110850Corvina
The girl wolf proved herself useful. She’d smelled people within a few moments. The group she was looking for? Corvina wasn’t sure, considering the girl couldn’t speak to her and say.
And obviously this girl couldn’t shift back to human form whenever she wished. A bit odd, but…Corvina had heard of ones like this.
Zoe seemed excited, however, as they continued through the castle. In fact, many times Corvina lost sight of the girl and had to wait, annoyingly, until she returned.
She groaned. This was getting to be a pain. Then again, she had asked the girl to tag along.
Why had she asked the girl to tag along?
She rolled her eyes. She didn’t even remember.
”Because she reminds you of someone. Remember? Because she’s scared. And alone. And forgotten. Just. Like. You.”
Corvina gritted her teeth and shook her head.
Zoe bounded back in her wolf form, excited again. Corvina followed, hoping that, whoever they were following, would yield results. And that they’d find them quickly.
They we’re somewhere new now.
Somewhere darker. Though, everything was darker, with the moon hidden behind the fog outside. Still, a chill went down Corvina’s spine and she scolded herself for it.
They approached a new room when the wolf girl stopped, frozen in place.
Her ears plastered to her head and she released a whine. A whimper that sounded almost like a wounded puppy. She was backing up, and, Corvina could see her glowing eyes were brimming with…
Tears?
Corvina stopped and looked ahead.
She saw nothing but shadows.
Was someone there?
Corvina readied herself, but no one came.
Zoe curled into a ball, her fur shaking with convulsions, as if she were wounded.
Corvina stood, shocked. What did she do?
Was she hurt?
Again her eyes looked into the shadow.
No one was there.
Not that she could see…
”Sometimes the things we don’t see cause the most pain.”
Corvina swallowed, understanding now. Her hands fell to her sides.
She watched the wolf whimper and shiver on the floor, haunted by….whatever memory was going through her mind.
What had brought it on, Corvina didn’t know. But she knew too well how…simple triggers could be.
She frowned.
What was she supposed to do with this?
If it had been a foe; physical opposition, she could’ve readily faced if. But…this? She didn’t know where to start.
Or even if she should comfort the girl.
Comfort wasn’t exactly what she was here for.
She supposed she could leave her. The girl had brought her this far…
She could find Arabella and her friends without her.
But…
She blew out a breath, blowing a strand of her black as night hair.
The girl had stopped whimpering and was quiet now, just slightly shaking on the stone cold floor.
Corvina didn’t know what to do. But…she supposed she could wait on her.
So, she slid down the wall and sat on the floor. Waiting for the girl to fight through her demons.
And trying not to dredge up her own.

Hiiiiii! Good to have you back!!!
I’m so excited about this, it’s borderline absurd.😂
Alyona
The door flew open, admitting a boy, a gir who darted in front of him with a furry thing that weilded three tails and a twitching nose.
None of them Dorwains.
Alyona didn’t know what to do with such company. She pressed further into the brick work, trying to understand who these people were and what on earth they were doing here.
”Whoop! Great job, love!” the noisy girl scooped up her creature – it obviously belonged to her – and cuddled it.
They seemed entranced by the food and began to set too like they hadn’t eaten in days. Alyona watched in astonishment as the animal sniffed about her barley stew quite unhindered by the two food-mad youths.
”Smells good.” Another girl had followed them inside, a soft smile gracing her face. More people were just stepping in the door.
Everyone seemed relieved.
Except Alyona. The noisy girl had jumped up to sit on the work table, catching up one of the pieces of bread Alyona had just begun to cut.
“Vait!” someone cried with a voice of authority. Two young men that had joined the group. Alyona eyed them warily.
Woolen tunics and one with a heavy red mantle, slightly-pointed open-faced helmets, long trousers bound to the knee. Soft leather boots. She relaxed.
VoyageFolk.
Then stiffened.
Raiders or Smugglers?
She prayed they were Smugglers.
Meanwhile, group seemed disturbed by his command, but they did wait.
The shorter of the two Voyagers, RedCloak as she mentally called him, was scanning the kitchen. “This bread and stew is fresh…” He walked further into the room, “Somev’one’s been here.”
The two ravenous youths froze, their faces displaying their horror. Apparently, it hadn’t crossed their minds that the food might belong to someone. Alyona was tempted to smile.
The creature was far from pleased, which made him undeniably adorable. Like Kosky when she sulked.
Then Ayona realized that the two Voyagers we’re going to search the room. For her.
Her heart stopped and she stifled a scream.
Where are you, Viktor?
Images of soldiers stopping her brother for a suspicious “good morning” that included more of “who are you, and what is your the name of your family”, danced in her memory. Then that time they had turned their gaze to her…
She squared her shoulders. This was different. These were VoyageFolk, and the whole group was obviously out of place here. Perhaps even more than her brother and herself. There was no need to wait like a cornered mouse till they found her; she brushed the dust from her dress and stood forward.
“Peace to you.” The boy fairly jumped out if his skin, causing Alyona to smile. She definitely had everyone’s attention. Not that she wanted it.
“Whatever brings you to my master’s kitchen, you are welcome to join me in my meal.”
She’d make sure some was saved for Viktor, wherever he was. If he still was.
She stubbornly rebuked that thought.

Arabella
”Peace to you!” A young girl rose from the shadows beset the hearth. Ara clutched her bodice, her heart leaping from her chest. The girl was only a year or two younger then she, and not very intimidating, but she did cause quite a fright.
”AH!” November jumped, as he was the one standing closest to the fireplace, and the girl was only a few feet away. He bumped into the table, jostling the stew.
”Watch it!” Nyx cried as a few drops nearly splashed on his tails. He hissed and jumped up, looking from the girl, to the pot of stew-making sure it wasn’t going to fall. He also glanced at November with a tired look.
Zlatan’s hand had moved to his sword hilt, his eyes narrowed, thought when he realized it was just a girl, he seemed to relax. Slightly.
Sofia also tensed, as did Vulkasin.
The girl was smiling s sweetly, but her eyes ticked over the group, studying them.
“Whatever brings you to my master’s kitchen, you are welcome to join me in my meal.” She spoke.
Master…was she a servant girl?
She seemed so young…
Ara frowned, knowing other kingdoms were different from hers. Still, she hopes the girl was treated well.
”Well! Hello there!” Lyn grinned, never one to turn down a new friend. “Thanks for sharing a meal! We could definitely use one! Specially those two!” She nodded at November and Nyx.
The little fox eyed the girl warily but quickly turned his sight to Lyn, skittering over to her as she took a bite of her bread. She shared a piece with the little fox. He munched on it contentedly.
Zlatan was still eyeing her warily, seemingly unsure of what to do about the girl’s sudden appearance, so Ara stepped forward.
”Hello,” Ara said. “It’s very nice to meet you. My name is Arabella. These are my friends, November, Jocelyn and Nyx. And this,” she pointed to the brothers, “Is Zlatan and Vulkasin.”
She looked at Sofia who stood in the doorway, silent. “That’s Sofia. We thank you for your generosity.” Ara smiled. The girl seemed a bit surprised by Ara’s kindness and her shoulders relaxed considerably. She smiled back.
November was still eyeing the bread and stew, but had yet to get any, still perturbed by the stranger’s appearance.
”You May have some,” the girl told him. He blinked a few times and then quickly grabbed a bowl and proceeded to dig in. Ara chuckled.
“And what’s your name?” Lyn asked.

Zlatan and Vulkasin
A girl rose up from behind the fireplace, nearly throwing the group in panic.
“Peace to you!”
Zlatan glanced over the rest of the room. No one else.
Her voice was quiet, with a soft lilt. “Whatever brings you to my master’s kitchen, you are welcome to join me in my meal.”
A servant, or more likely a slave. Afraid of any who entered. So young.
Zlatan’s blood boiled.
“Well! Hello there!” Lyn was grinning. “Thanks for sharing a meal! We could definitely use one! Specially those two!”
Zlatan looked back at the girl. Something about her was familiar. Hair tied back in a shawl, long flowing dress, and cross-tied soft leather boots. The embroidered hems showed various patterns of flowers and shapes.
She looked and sounded remarkably Southlandish.
”Hello,” Ara said, stepping forward. “It’s very nice to meet you. My name is Arabella. These are my friends, November, Jocelyn and Nyx. And this is Zlatan and Vulkasin.”
The girl eyed them, and Zlatan noticed an odd tone of relief.
Ara continued smiling, “That’s Sofia. We thank you for your generosity.”
The girl looked surprised but relieved. She smiled and nodded to Novembré. “You may have some.”
The lad attacked the stew with a vengeance.
Lyn gave Nyx another bite of bread then asked, “And what’s your name?”

Fork the GorkMay 11, 2022 at 12:41 pm #110860It’s hilarious how we both have similar cultures within contact of our characters.
Just as long as Alyona doesn’t ask about boats. XD
She’ll probably soon get suspicious though, especially since they are so at home on land. Lol!

May 11, 2022 at 12:42 pm #110861Rinzler and Feather
Rinzler eyed the cat-like creature in front of him. Great, he thought. Another creature to follow us around.
The cat yakked on and on, finally coming to a stop. “…I don’t even know your names. Okay, I’ll shut up now.” he finished.
Feather’s apparent new friend—Hesh—introduced them all before Rinzler could react. He decided there was no use complaining about that and kept quiet.
Hesh looked toward the door. “Let’s leave this place.” For once, Rinzler agreed.
Feather got right to asking the cat-person-thing questions. “Are you an Ailurid? There are legends in my world of creatures who look like you. Only they’re a little more humanoid.”
Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.

#ProtectSebMay 11, 2022 at 12:54 pm #110863To explain my over vague comment. 😉
The sea in which Yartass sits is inhabited by a navigating people called the VoyageFolk. They’ve spent so much time on the water, that they don’t see the attraction to living on land. XD (which will cause some humorous conversations later in the book when they make friends with some. We can let you off here, I guess, but. I’m sorry you have to go, especially now that you’ve seen how much better this is. Meanwhile the siblings are like Land, I see land!!!)

May 11, 2022 at 12:57 pm #110864Hesh
Hesh led the way back up the dim passage. With every step away from that door, he felt his heart grow a little lighter.
He could tell that Rinzler was still suspicious of him, but now mad as well for Hesh’s introduction of them to the cat. Hesh could handle Rinzler. In this place, they were going to need all the allies they could get.
As the group followed the passage’s twists and turn, Hesh followed twists and turns in his mind. How could they have all, clearly from different worlds, been snatched from their own worlds and brought here? And why? He suspected that it wasn’t for some benevolent reason; the whole castle reeked of malevolence.
Lost as he was in his head, he nearly walked straight through the door. Thank goodness he wasn’t that out-of-it. “Here we are,” he announced. Right back where they started.
We're all stories in the end. Just make it a good on, eh?
-The DoctorMay 11, 2022 at 1:23 pm #110865Feather
Rinzler wasn’t taking their companions too well. Feather could see it in his expression. She could have a talk with him later.
“Here we are,” said Hesh, gesturing to the door they’d come through. They exited to a clear sky.
Feather looked back. “You two are from different worlds than Rinzler and I are. What are your homeworlds, anyway? Where do you come from?”
Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.
