“Like valking.” Zlatan’s eyebrow rose, “Ever heard of it?”He swiveled to the others before his brother could respond.
He decided to treat this as a counsel among officers, not a muster of troops.
Start with the object.
“So, ve need to pick von of zees passages and try to find a vay down.”
Next state options.
He paused for a moment to organize his thoughts.
“Passages closer to ze v’alls, such as this von, vill be straighter and more likely to have stairs and exits. Ze vill also have vindows, so ve must be careful of guards, but zere vill be light besides sconces.
“Inner passages vill be more twisting and uncertain, but less likely to have guards. Zere vill be more people, zough at zees time most vill be asleep. Light vill come from sconces.
“I suggest Ve follow von of zees outer corridors. Vat do you zink?”
Most of the group looked confused, or bewildered. Vulkasin was snickering.
Perhaps he shouldn’t make rapid-fire speeches, although they hadn’t seemed to have much difficulty understanding him normally.
Lyn smiled. “Let’s do this one!” Zlatan was almost sure she had pointed before even looking.

Arabella
Zlatan had finished his speech, and, combined with his accent and the quick speech, it took Ara a moment to comprehend what he was saying.
It was too late for her to speak up and agree with him, however, because Lyn was smiling and pointing down a random doorway.
”Let’s do this one!”
Ara smiles in spite of herself. She knew Lyn didn’t mean anything by it-she’d probably been only half-paying attention to Zlatan’s speech, but Zlatan looked perturbed nonetheless.
”How about,” Ara softly coaxed her smiling friend, “We go the way Zlatan suggested.”
”Ooh which way is that?”
Yup. She hadn’t even been listening. Zlatan sighed and seemed to mutter something under his breath. Ara shrugged, trying to let him know not to take it personally.
”Mm, yes, let’s put our trust in the stranger.” Nyx huffed. Ara ignored him.
Ara and November helped Sofia up. She seemed pleased to have found others to join, and was smiling softly, and thanking Ara for her kind gesture in bandaging her wounds.
Ara blushed. “It was nothing. Really.”
”She’d do it for anyone.” November said, smiling. Ara shrugged, wondering if that were really true.
November always tended to…over exaggerate when it came to her and what she could do.
If only she could get him to do the same for himself.
“Alright Zlatan, lead the way.” Ara smiled.

Zlatan and Vulkasin
They started off down the hall, Zlatan feeling as if he was back in his second year training with twenty-four first year students all unintentionally pushing their Student Officer, Zlatan, near insanity.
I always used to wonder why Commanders were grey headed.
He had survived that, he would this also.
Vulkasin had thoroughly enjoyed the situation, and this was proving almost better. Almost.
But his brother sighed, and smiled at Lyn.
The passages were dark now, with the occasional door. Vulkasin grinned against it, striding with his sword at his side, why should he fear anything? And the dark? Ha.
Vulks lived the night.
He could hear could hear the others whispered conversations, often with an odd jump as if he had skipped a speaker.

Fork the GorkMay 6, 2022 at 8:00 pm #110771November
November subconsciously tugged at his hair. The halls had grown darker with every step and the stars outside had dimmed, their light hidden behind an ominous fog. He frowned, wishing the sun would start to rise, but he knew that wouldn’t happen anytime soon.
The shadows crept at his feet, making him jump at every noise. He felt silly. After all, everyone else seemed fine walking in the dark.
Jocelyn and Nyx walked along like they were taking a stroll on a sunny day. Lyn was grinning and looking all around, not that there was anything to really look at. Every time she caught November or someone’s eye she smiled and waved. Nyx was perfectly content, curled up around her neck and warily eyeing the brother’s who guided them.
He still wasn’t giving up his distrust. Not yet anyway.
The two brother’s were doing fine, leading the way with a boldness November definitely lacked. Zlatan kept peeking backing to check on the group, which made November all the more embarrassed whenever he jumped or let out a yelp at a passing shadow.
Sofia seemed calm, lost in her own thoughts.
And Ara…
Ara was perfect.
He found he couldn’t look at her for too long or he’d end up staring. While the darkness made everything else extremely…well…bleak, it made Ara glow. Her eyes were focused and determined. Her steps evenly paced and her hands clasped in front of her.
Worry lines creased her face, making November frown. He could almost see the wheels spinning her mind. Her concern for everyone showed itself outwardly; her lips were pulled thin, her hands were shaking slightly and her brows furrowed.
November wondered what it was like, worrying for everyone else. He had enough problems trying not to make a mess of things on his own, much less watch out for other people. But somehow, Arabella did it. She took care of everything. She cared.
Because she’s perfect.
Ara looked his way, her cocoa eyes sparkling in fire-light. She smiled.
His ears burned. He’d been staring.
Again.
“Everything okay?” She asked. He opened his mouth, searching for an answer. Nothing. Had she somehow read his mind? He flushed. Then, she pointed to his hand, which was still positioned behind his head-ready to pull at his curls. “You’ve been doing that for a while now.”
His shoulders relaxed slightly. She was talking about his habit…not his obvious staring. Heh. That was…a bit less embarrassing. He swallowed and slipped his hand back down to his side, though the urge to tug at his scalp was nearly unbearable.
“Oh, uhh, yea. Just…kinda freaky, ya know?” He gave her a lopsided smile as they continued walking. He stared at his feet, looking up every so often to make sure he didn’t run into Vulkasin. “Being here…in the dark. It’s…creepy.”
Ara grimaced and shuddered, as if a chill had swept through her. “Yes, I know what you mean.”
“Lyn seems happy, though,” November chuckled. They looked over to find Lyn chatting Sofia’s ear off about…some nonsense.
Ara laughed making November lose the rest of his tension. The shadows faded away as Ara walked a bit closer. “Lyn does love her adventures, doesn’t she?”
“Yup.” The two walked on in silence for a moment, November a bit more relaxed now that Ara was beside him. He couldn’t explain it, or…well, perhaps it was more along the lines of not wanting to try to explain it, but Ara always made him feel….at home.
Even back when he’d been home.
She’d been the only one to ever make him feel at home.
“Think we’ll find the exit anytime soon?” He asked.
“Still hungry?” Ara asked, a smirk at her lips. He shrugged, grinning. She laughed, gripping his hand and making him blush at the contact. She pulled him forward, closer to Zlatan and Vulkasin. “Any idea where we should go next?”
“Not sure, but-” Zlatan was interrupted by Lyn.
“Hey! Check it out! Stairs!” She pointed ahead.
Indeed, just ahead of the group was a spiral stone staircase leading up or down.
“Down means we’re closer to the exit, right?” November asked Zlatan.

#ProtectSebMay 6, 2022 at 8:42 pm #110774@koshka Imma go ahead and add a Lyn and Nyx convo tho cuz ur Vulkasin RP made PERFECT room for one I realized with the “missing a speaker” thing. Cuz that fits with him not being able to hear Nyx lol
Nyx
Lyn was chattering Sofia’s ear off. Despite Nyx’s protests.
“Great. Another stranger.”
At least this one didn’t have dark hair.
But she was extremely tall.
And smelled of blood.
And Nyx. Didn’t. Like it.
Not one bit.
Though, some of that could’ve been attributed to the darkness around him. It also could’ve been the eery sconces that flickered, teasing him with their burning embers. Or…perhaps it was the sword-bearing, dark-haired stranger they were following.
Those with dark hair were untrustworthy.
Nyx should know. He’d met enough of them.
Okay, maybe not that many. But the ones he had met?
And this one carried a weapon.
This one claimed to be a friend.
Just like the other one.
He hissed.
“Nyx?” Lyn glanced at him out the corner of her eye. He looked away, pouting. The hiss had escaped by accident. “Nyx. Come now, what is it?”
“I just don’t understand why you’re…so trusting right now.”
“Not this again,” she sighed.
“I’m just saying.”
“Listen love, give me one good reason we shouldn’t trust them.” Jocelyn had stepped against the wall, probably hoping to give herself some distance to talk without being overheard too badly. Still, Nyx figured the group could hear her loud and clear.
She wasn’t exactly the quietest thing around.
“I’ll give you two.” He sat up straight, looking her in the eyes. “One, we don’t. Even. Know them. And two, I. Don’t. Trust them.”
“The second one doesn’t count.” She rolled her eyes, but smirked. His nose twitched in annoyance. Why wasn’t she listening!
“Lynnie! I’m serious!”
“And so am I. Come now, Arabella and November trust them, and that’s enough for me. Why can’t it be for you?”
“Because it isn’t.”
She sighed. “Nyx…listen.” Her voice grew soft and she held out her arms. He begrudgingly crawled into them. She rubbed one of his ears and looked away. “I…I know it’s hard, but…you can’t just…not trust people. Okay?”
“And you can’t just trust everyone!”
Lyn was quiet. “Yes, but-”
“We just learned this lesson,” Nyx huffed. “People can’t be trusted.”
“Nyx…”
Nyx looked up. Jocelyn was…
Crying. A few silent tears streamed down her eyes, lit only by the lamplight.
His ears fell and he hunched low, whimpering. His girl was crying.
He’d made her cry.
“Lynnie…I-I didn’t mean…”
She sniffed and shook her head, forcing a smile. “No dearest, it’s okay.”
Despite her words, he felt miserable. Like something inside of him wilted. She looked so…deflated when she cried. It was such an odd sight that…whenever It happened, Nyx found it to be quite, sickening.
“Lynnie…I’m sorry.” He whined. Curling into her chest, ashamed.
“Love, no! It’s okay! Honest.” She seemed to cry harder, which made him feel worse. Though, she didn’t seem mad at him, not in the slightest. In fact, her arms wrapped around him tighter and squeezed him.
His despair melted away for a moment and he found that, his eyes were also leaking. He nuzzled his face against her chin. “I never want to make you cry…”
“Sometimes…sometimes it’s the only thing we can do Nyx.”
Nyx didn’t understand, but he nodded, listening to his girl’s heartbeat. She sighed.
“We were both hurt love. Hurt by those who…we trusted. And it wasn’t right but…just don’t judge every book by its cover, okay?”
He didn’t understand that either, but, for the sake Lyn, he nodded, and decided he’d at least try to be a bit more cooperative.
