Aw, good! Because, just warning: more are definitely coming. XD

(Yes! Actually The Shepherd/Lord is what they call Jesus, but the kings and princes of Eirtan are also called Shepherds. [and I’ll let you guess about the other titles he refers to 😉 ])

      Sounds good to me!

      Ocran

He was getting close. More than once he had caught the sound of fleeing feet, and just now he thought he heard her voice. It was weary and tense, which was good.

Ocran continued more cautiously; there was no reason to lose her after getting this close.

He paused to change out his torch and froze when he heard her voice. It was close.

”No! Hush!” two words were clearly distinguishable before it faded out of hearing. Who was she talking to, herself?

He loosened his blade in its sheath. He shouldn’t need it, but sometimes nothing helped subdue like the gleam of sharpened steel.

Ah, she had backed herself into a dead end. How considerate.

He rounded the corner and found her clutching her “darling” in the corner.

You have listened to fears, child. Come, let me breathe on you... Are you brave again? -Aslan

        Corvina

Zoe spoke clearly. Crisply, much to Corvina’s surprise. The girl hadn’t seemed very articulated when they’d first met but now she seemed a tad more relaxed.

Zoe’s eyes had shifted to the window. “I might shift to wolf form, with the setting of the sun. I will still obey your orders, as well as I can.”

        Hmm. Curious.

Corvina’s brows quirked and she glanced at the girl, her purple eyes finally catching her attention. Who was this girl? Obviously not a shifter, if unable to control her form…

        Unless a very…untrained shifter…

Still, Corvina had never heard of a shifter who transformed for reasons outside of their control.

Except….well, some races did. But they were special shifters….was this girl one?

“Fine with me,” Corvina shrugged, but she kept a wary eye on the girl, though she didn’t look very suspicious. In fact, she looked completely…loyal.

Not in a “I’d die for you” kind of way, but more of a, “I’m too afraid to betray you” way. Still, at least it meant Corvina didn’t have to worry.

        Still, trusting was too dangerous.

“I suppose you won’t be much help if I don’t tell you what I’m doing here, hm?”

Zoe looked up expectantly, as if hinging on every word, waiting to be given some sort of order.

“I’m looking for a girl, or her friends. The why doesn’t really matter. To you, anyway. I just need to know why they’re here, and stop them. Simple.” Corvina shrugged, though her brain was arguing that it wouldn’t be that simple.

          Nyx

          Trapped. GReAt.

Nyx growled. The urge to leap at this man’s face was unbearable.

He smelled of old, wrinkly fruit, and the the disdainful, uppity tone he’d used when talking to Jocelyn made Nyx’s nose twitch with fury. But Lyn’s hands held tight, keeping him held in place, close to her chest. He could feel and hear her steady heartbeat, only slightly quickened, despite her long run and their face to face with this unfriendly foe.

          He looked up.

          She was smiling.

”Ah! Hello!” She said cheerfully. “I believe we got off on the wrong foot! Or hand! Whatever you’d prefer!”

Nyx watched the man’s expressions range from confusion, to contempt to anger, and Nyx hissed, arching his back.

He may have been young, a fact that he abhorred, but he would never ever let that stop him from protecting his girl.

          “Lyn!”

Lyn’s hold on him grew tighter, squeezing him in a chokehold of a hug.

“Why don’t we start over, hm? Again, I’m Jocelyn. And this is Nyx. He’s…a bit feisty as you can tell.” She held him close to her face, nuzzling into his fur.

He felt his face burn with redness. How embarrassing!

”Lyn! Don’t try to talk to the madman! Just let me bite him already!”

“Not. Now.” She said through clenched, smiling teeth. “I. Have. A. Plan.” She subtly glanced at one of the torches on the walls, and Nyx noticed. He calmed, but then returned to fighting, hoping to keep up his act so Lyn could enact her plan.

          ”And you are?”

@elishavet-pidyon u can write a bit of a longer one if u want to. Lol and even had Nyx end up breaking out of the plan and attacking him if he insults Jocelyn (cuz if he insults her bad enough he’d totally do it)

                Zlatan and Vulkasin

Ara rose and dusted off her skirt. She seemed to have recovered. “We don’t want to be any trouble.”

Zlatan sighed. “If zees Corvina is bad enough her presence brings dreams in daylight (he is actually referring to PTSD), it looks like she’s already trouble.”

His brother laughed from where he leaned against the door post. Zlatan silenced him with a glare.

Ara glanced back at Novembré, or rather at the the scar under his eye. There must be a story there, but just the same, I’m glad all mine are hidden. If just a few claw marks gives them pain, there’s no telling what forty lashes would do. He tried to smile.

“I don’t mean ve will be h’overing over you, zat ‘vould be stupid, but zat you ‘ave two friends ‘ere ‘villing and ready to help. Besides, what good vill splitting up do right now? If you find ze owner, or ve run into zees, Corvina, vat could be done?” He shifted his shield again. “But ve can’t go valking around zees castle forever. Ve need a counsel and some plan.”

Vulkasin snorted. “Ah, brot’er, plans take to much time.”

“Neh, reckless blunders take time. Plans save lives.” He sent another look at his twin, then froze as the distant call of a horn drifted into the room.

                “Zat can’t be good.”

@koshka YAY YOU’RE BACK! *hugs!!* AND I MISSED UR CHARRIES BECAUSE I LOOOVE THEM!! Gasp….forty lashes?! My poor Zlatan….sobs….

                  Arabella

Everyone tensed at the Horn’s distant blast. November jumped up, knocking over a vase that was seated beside his seat. He frowned and then offered a sheepish shrug.

Ara smiled and then returned her attention to the door.

“Zat can’t be good.” Zlatan glared out the door, speaking of the horn’s blast. Vulkasin seemed to agree, though his eyes blazed with a gleam of adventure.

Ara looked at him with a hint of jealousy, wishing she could feel the same as he. Had she been a few years younger, she could have, but now….

She glanced at her wrist. It had stopped glowing, but the markings were sticking out from beneath her sleeve. She tugged it down to hide the tattoo-like scar.

A bit of her gung-ho adventure had returned. She was no longer the scared little princess from A’Grend. No, she’d been through too much now. And she had her friends; November, and Jocelyn and Nyx.

But she still wasn’t like she used to be.

She’d never be like that again.

                  It was too dangerous.

                  Foolish.

Vulkasin could risk being adventurous. He was strong and brave, armed with weapons and smarts. She was just a girl.

“Ara?” November’s voice cut through her fog and she snapped her head up, realizing everyone had made their way toward the door. She swiftly followed, her slippers clicking against the tile.

“Should we follow it?” She asked the brother’s looking in each direction of the hall, wondering where the blast had come from.

She noticed the sun was no longer shining, but that now, the moon was out. The stars twinkled, casting a dark glow everything. She shuddered and frowned. November seemed on edge as well, as he was beginning to tug at the back of his head.

She went to stay his hand but decided better of it. She supposed he had to do something to take his mind off of everything. Still, she did hate what she was sure was a painful habit. A habit he’d had since he was a child.

A habit brought on from years of anxiety and cruel words.

Instead she placed a hand on his shoulder and smiled reassuringly. “Hey, everything’s gonna be fine.”

                  November

It was dark now. The perfect time for Corvina to appear. November anxiously peered at every shadow, expecting her to jump out and snatch Ara, dragging her away to some unknown place.

                  Somewhere he’d never find her.

And then he’d have failed her.

                  Again.

He furiously pulled at his curls, ignoring the bolts of pain it sent through his scalp.

You can’t fail her again! You can’t mess up again!

Even though it’s all you do?

                  Well…it’s not all I do….

Sure it is. You’re own father said you were a mess up!

                  He was a liar!

Not when it came to you.

                  ……

                  You know I’m right.

”Hey,” a voice quelled his thoughts and a warm touch made him snap to attention. “Everything’s gonna be fine.”

November frowned. He glanced at her hand on his shoulder and looked away. “Why do you think she’s here?”

”Corvina? To find us, I’m sure.”

November sighed. “To find you.” He looked into her eyes. Her perfect brown eyes. Her smile faltered and her gaze flickered to his scars. He winced, wishing once again they weren’t there.

                  Feeling once again self-conscious.

She was afraid. But not for herself.

                  Never for herself.

                  As usual.

                  Perfect Arabella.

”Ara, she’s here for you,” November repeated, frowning. He had to get her to see that. Had to get her mind off of him and what Corvina had already done. Ara looked away.

”She’s after all of us.” She insisted. And before November could get in another word, she turned to the brothers. “So, which way do we go?”

Ok! XD yeah, I almost went back and added more, but I didn’t want to clog the gears.

                    Ahem.

                    Ocran

There she was. The impertinent young girl with her nasty creature.

The girl, Jocelyn or whatever it was, smiled up at him, her teeth glowing bright in the light of the torches.

What was she getting at? She aught to be on her knees begging forgiveness. Not that he’d give it, but it was the only decent thing she had left to do.

”Ah! Hello!” She said cheerfully. “I believe we got off on the wrong foot! Or hand! Whatever you’d prefer!”

Ocran found himself blinking in astonishment, which only made him scowl worse. How dare she try to catch him off balance?

The thing suddenly hissed at him, trying to escape Jocelyn’s grasp. A wild gleam came into it’s eye, turning it into a dangerous creature bent on violent protection.

The same gleam that had shone in Esen’s eyes as she spun away from her master’s body, her rare golden feathers stained crimson from their last fight together. That last battle, when the walls that held back his victory burned to the ground.

But the bird had disappeared, escaping both blade and flame.

He clenched his fist around the hilt of his knife.

How he hated this Nyx creature!

The girl didn’t seem to take notice of his mood, but began to prattle on in the most familiar manner.

“Why don’t we start over, hm? Again, I’m Jocelyn. And this is Nyx. He’s…a bit feisty as you can tell.” She cuddled the beast against her cheek, as if it’s demented ferocity was endearing.

When she murmured into it’s ear it seemed to calm for a second. Then she looked back up at Ocran.

                    “And you are?”

“I am Ocran, Lord Governor of the entire Dorwain province of Eirtan.”  Ocran growled. “And I demand to know what has brought you here to this my castle.

The animal bristled again and began to fight harder to be free. Ocran sneered at it. “You had better be able to control that thing, or else things will become very unpleasant for you both.”

                    She smiled even wider.

You have listened to fears, child. Come, let me breathe on you... Are you brave again? -Aslan

@elishavet-pidyon AGH I love this so much and I love all ur book stuff 🤣

                        Jocelyn & Nyx

                        Her smile widened.

”Lord Governor?! Two titles in one?!” She gasped. “How amazing is that?! Nyx! Did you hear that!”

”Lynnie, I don’t know what you’re getting at, but if you don’t enact this plan soon, I’m going to EXPLODE!!!”  Nyx squeaked, trying ever so hard to get out of her grip, yet also remain in it, so as not to ruin her plan-quite a difficult feat truth be told.

“Ah, ah, now Nyx, do be nice! Is that anyway to treat a Lord Governor! Do forgive him.” Lyn offered an elegant and show full curtsy, unlocking all of her showmanship from when she’d been a performer. “He’s been quite antsy recently.”

The man was caught off guard yet again, but still remained angry.

“OH! And this is your castle? HOW WONDERFUL!! Might I make a few suggestions? Okay, firstly, the dungeon. I think it could use a COMPLETE remodel. Perhaps remove the bones that are down there? Make it a bit less dreary. Oh, and these stone walls could use a fresh coat of paint-“

“LYN WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!” Nyx’s voice bellowed but she ignored it, her eyes ticking as her brain spun like a top.

“Hmm, and what else? There was one other thing…” She looked to her right and, in one swift motion threw Nyx in the air. “AH YES! These torches really are a fire hazard you know!”

                        Nyx shrieked.

                        ”LYNNIE!!!”

”Showtime dearest!” Was all she had to say, and in an instant, the fox’s brain snapped to attention.

It was instinct, really. They’d done multiple maneuvers just like this, back at home. The only difference was, it was all for show and not to escape from some madman.

Still, in the blink of an eye Jocelyn had managed to grab one of the torches and bound to the other wall to the grab the next.

Ocran was completely fazed as Nyx effortlessly braced himself and landed on his feet. The little fox hissed and ran toward the man, claws out. But, right before smacking into him, he swerved, running underneath his legs and making Ocran stumble.

Lyn waved the torches and chunked one of them, so close it sizzled a piece of Ocran’s shoe leather.

She ran and jumped over the fallen man, but not before he grabbed her ankle. She cried out, tugging to no avail.

”Ah! Nyx! A little help here!”

“Back off prune-bag!” Nyx yelled as he bit into Ocran’s wrist. The man let out a yelp and the two took off down the hall, grinning at their victory.

(Soooo I hope that umm wasn’t too crazy or going too far…but Ocran will definitely be angry now XD and have it out for the two of them sooo…I srsly love their interactions with Ocran ROFL….

bruh I honestly kinda wanna see Ocran interact with November and like November go full on klutz with something of Ocran’s 🤣

                            Because…

It’s a story the Maker has always told

And the story, my child, is true.

(Armulyn, Royal Bard of the Shining Isle From chapter 96, “The Former Fangs Have Passed Away.”)

                            *Weeps*

That’s why I love this character.
