Okay, y’all I think it’s time for a quick POV from Ocran…. Whether or not he actually comes on the scene, you know.
Ocran
Immer, a captain of his castle gaurd, stood at attention before Ocran’s desk. Sweat beaded on the man’s forehead, and his boots were spattered in mud and blood.
This looked promising.
Ocran raised an eyebrow. “Report.”
“Ah, sire, we discovered that the trespassers had lodged in a tower in the old part of this castle and surounded them speedily.” Immer paused and took a whistling breath. “There was a dreadful confusion and instead of surrendering, they spilt into groups and have disappeared.”
Ocran leaned forward, his voice rolling forth like low thunder. “You mean to say, you have let the thieving spies escape.”
Immer winced and shook his head. “No, my lord. They have escaped momentarily, but we are tracking them with the dogs.”
“You said they disappeared.” Ocran said coldly.
“I merely intended to say that they had fled.”
Ocran studied the man intently, then gave him a short nod. “Continue.”
“There is a small matter of multiplication.” The captain clasped his hands behind his back. “There seem to be over a dozen trespassers, in place of the one.”
“A dozen.”
“Over, my lord.”
“Are you certain you have not tracked yourself?”
“Quite certain, my lord. Some stayed to fight.”
“No prisoners?”
“None, my lord.”
This last response was met with angry silence. Immer bit the inside of his lip, waiting for his master to take off his head.
Then Ocran began to speak in a low growl. “You mean to say that you, the castle gaurd, have let a small village’s worth of people prowl within these walls?”
“There were VoyageFolk with them, my lord.” Immer held up his hands. “Master smugglers as you know.”
Ocran spat in disgust. “This is no sea port. This is a strong hold. Do you intend to say that a band of wandering merchants can outwit the elite castle gaurd?”
Immer bowed his head.
“Find them by sundown, or consider yourself a fraud.” He stood with finality.
