Not really, it’s never actually occurred to me. My style’s anything but realistic. You? (I’m guessing so, since it seems you take the realistic path.)

If I’m doing something modeled after a specific thing (like a movie character or animal) then yea, I prefer reference images. But for something in my head, I don’t usually. So I’m not at all sure how I’d draw my human oc’s XD
@whalekeeper your grandpa’s cabin sounds so cool!! I’ve always wanted a hunting cabin full of taxidermy 😀 I would love an elk mount like that! I currently only have a little mule deer mount, but I didn’t hunt him. Also, I’m in love with your art style!! That girl is so adorable, she’s got so much personality! I love all the swirls and fun shapes.

In the shriveled hand-keep@ava-blue I love how distinct your style is 😀 Like, I can easily tell if a drawing is yours or not. Plus some of your characters have almost long faces, which is really cool, because most artists go with a rounder style – but then again, I bet you do both. Good job 😉

Woahhhh your deer is so pretty! I love the creative flare with the flowers! How long have you been using watercolors? It was my favorite medium for awhile (I should really get back into it lol)

I do that too! Often time my first drawing of a new character is a chibi… simply because chibis have no face structure XD. So I get a chance to decide the aesthetic without finding a proper face shape.

Honestly the thing that helped me the most is drawing from other peoples art I like… lol sounds weird IK. I mean like graphic novels. If you can find a book series that has something you like (the author draws great noses for instance) Then you can use the art in the book as reference (make fanart, or use it as a reference for a part of your character) Just seeing how other people stylize realistic ideas (like proportions or musculature) really helped me a lot.
