🎵How many toes does a fish have, and how many wings on a cow? I wonder, yup, I wonder!🎵
October 8, 2024 at 12:09 am #186977Yes, it is. The folds on clothing is never correct, the highlights in the hair is either non-existant or terrible. I either over shade or don’t shade enough. The proportions, are funky. And this is just the people! With animals or objects well…nothing goes well.

October 8, 2024 at 12:20 am #186978You are not a bad artist, and you have drawn things very well in the past. Your wolf drawing (by Chase) was very good. Plus you used charcoal, I think, which I am too scared to use. Give yourself grace. 🤗

October 8, 2024 at 7:41 am #186983Hey rae, want to see some drawings of mine from last year?
Oh wait, you can’t, because I hid those in a lock box and buried them so that no one would find them. EVER!
Do you know how the drawings this year are any better?
I kept drawing
and drawing
and drawing.
It takes practice.
Also, helpful side tip, at one point when I was about 14 I just couldn’t get people to look right. AT ALL. So, I pulled out a bunch of photos and started tracing them. (black and white are easiest) This helped my hand and mind memorize how people work. (Also, thinking about what limbs do what things in what ways is helpful when drawing) You know, I did that for a WHOLE YEAR! It wasn’t until I was fifteen that I actually tried drawing people again. It was WAY better, but still hard.
Then I had a few years where all my guys looked like rectangle short haired girls because I couldn’t pull out the masculinity in body shape and faces. I think they look better now……….?
So, you need to keep working out it, and don’t feel upset when you see others who might draw better then you. It all takes practice, and you should ask those people how long they’ve been drawing and taking lessons (online or in person) on drawing. For me: Twelve years!
I do want to see a drawing tho!

Actually, I did that one with your average school pencil (though I did miraculously find a good eraser so maybe it wasn’t so average after all). I have done charcoal, but I am not good enough to do the minimalistic guidelines nessasry to make it look good.
Give yourself grace. 🤗
You can ask Andrew (he’s one of my friends irl), that NEVER happens.

It’s true, it never happens (I need help convincing her that she is a good artist).
I go by many names, Andrew, Andy, Mandrew, but you may call me... BATMAN!!!
October 8, 2024 at 1:01 pm #187024Your art is not bad. Don’t get discouraged because others post something that you think looks better.
A lot of what Ellette said is true for me too. One time, I took advantage of my family being away to pull out a hidden stash of terrible drawings and character ideas that at one time were cool, but looking back on them, they were quite strange. I then threw most of them out and they will never see the light of day again.
Now I’m not sure how old you are, but I am currently 21 and have been drawing characters for years, but it was only last year that I finally felt like I had drawn something that I would feel comfortable putting in one of my books. I still struggle with some things though, such as colour and consistency. Next time I draw Alan Wherl, chances are that he will look like a different person. I started colouring the physical copy of that drawing with pencil crayons, and almost immediately regretted it (Alan now has red marks all over his chin). There are also some artists that I take one look at what they’ve done and envy their talent. But I need to be content with my skills where they are at now. I can still glorify God while drawing, even my skills are not the absolute best.
Keep practicing and keep learning. You will improve over time.
If you’re looking to improve, follow some tutorials. I’m cautious about any class that teaches you how to draw people (since these usually have some explicit content in), but try one for drawing animals. This website here, which focuses on drawing animals realistically, has some good tutorials. (I think it’s pretty clean, but I haven’t gone in and dug through every article either.) Also, don’t get discouraged if you can’t follow the tutorial perfectly (something I still struggle with). Power through and keep drawing!
I like wolves. Can I see your wolf drawing by Chase?
Also, are you still working on that project where you asked a bunch of us what we would be if we were a animal/character/color/whatever else it was you asked us about?

Thank you all!
Ellette, I saw you said you have an obsession with any period-style clothing. Do you have any feedback on Alan’s outfit? I’ve tried to combine medieval fantasy with a military uniform from the late 19th century.
I also would not mind colour suggestions for Alan’s clothing if anyone has any.
October 8, 2024 at 1:23 pm #187031Where did you see that? lol.
I really like the style. It’s quite good. btw, I don’t think my Alan was THAT much different. lol. I think the cape set him off wrong.
I suggest royal blue or blood red for the scarf. (maybe gold?) A leathery reddish brown for the vest/coat. (Can’t tell what it is) Black or dark leathery red for the belts. Silver or gold for the buttons. Black or light brown pants. cream socks. Dark brown shoes. Cream shirt. leather and silver for the armor.

When we were all introducing ourselves to Andrew.

But the hair! You didn’t give him the special part/wizard hairstyle I’ve developed for him!

This is kind of what I had in mind. Red scarf for determination. The trouble is that a similar uniform with a similar colour scheme is also going to have to work for other characters like Tyn, Oliver, and Rour as well. I will probably make a few colour variations for Alan. and post them on here to see what people think I should develop further.
Thank you for the suggestion!
