My style is somewhere stuck between realistic and cartoony. I learned to draw from realistic-based books, but the vast majority of my early references are animated TV shows…..
I’ve learned to draw faces as a circle with a jawline connected to that, if that helps.

So, I took you’re advice, found some reference pics I liked and started drawing. I messed up one within the first thirty seconds and couldn’t find a good eraser, but once I started again and got in the grove…🤯 I CANNOT believe how fast and easy that got! It usually takes like…idk…Three hours of straight drawing to get what I get, and this took like 15 minutes!!!!!
So, without further ado, my attempt:
( @freedomwriter76 I drew Chase!)

@Loopy, I think I could use those perfectionist tips!

Ok, here’s some tips. Remember that they’re based off of my own art style and personality, so they might not be as helpful to you as they are to me.
First off, it’s helpful to have a sketchbook that you don’t care about ruining. Don’t waste your money on fancy looking sketchbooks because, if you’re like me, you’ll be too scared to draw in them because you don’t want to ruin them. My sketchbooks are usually just plain black and spiral bound.
Sometimes, when you just want to get some drawing practice in, quantity is actually better than quality. You can pick out a bunch of reference pictures and just start drawing. Flip the page when you’re done with one and don’t bother going back to look at it. I also like to blast music to keep my brain distracted so it doesn’t try to start overthinking.
Draw really simple, dumb stuff. Like memes. Or almost-stick-figure comics.
If you had fun drawing something, draw it again.
If you get a cool marker that has a really pretty color, fill half a page with it. Add little polka dots of your second favorite color.
When you don’t like something and it’s bothering you, write a little note in the margin about what you don’t like about it and maybe how you could do better next time. Then move on.
Don’t be afraid to scribble. I mean this literally. There was one time I was feeling art blocked and I was staring at the blank white page, feeling sure that whatever I put down was going to completely ruin it and be a waste of paper. So I handed my sketchbook and a pen to my little cousin and told him to scribble all over it. He did. Now the page was already ruined, and so no matter what I put down on there over the scribbles would be an improvement. One of my favorite drawings is now on that page.
Another thing is to separate yourself from your art, kinda. If you mess up drawing a hand, you’re not a bad artist. You just haven’t learned how to do hands the way you like them yet. Don’t think of your art as individual finished projects, but instead as fun things you did to help shape your art skills as a whole. Failures teach you just as much as successes.
When you see more experienced artists’ works, let them inspire you instead of discourage you. Look at the individual things that you like about their drawings and try to apply it to your own.
Aaand, that’s all that I can think of. Writing all that out was actually kinda helpful for myself. Hope it helps you too! Sorry it’s super long.
🎵It takes a long time to wait 🌻
