Yeah I’m still storyboarding my first episode… and I also need to work on world building some more. And perfect the character designs. But at least I do have a title! Lol
I’m doing mine in a book format, though I like both formats for different reasons.
I think the ending is what I’m struggling most with actually. I think it would help if I figured out my main characters backstories first, but idk. I just have the middle of the story right now and even that’s a bit fuzzy. I have plenty of mini adventures figured out though
How do you post pictures of your art on here? I’m trying by turning my Krita documents to jpgs, but KP keeps on saying the file is too big
Huh, that’s weird. Jpg usually works for me. But I’m on an iPad so it might be different.

December 11, 2023 at 11:08 pm #169273Hopefully posting this works lol…
So, what are your impressions of this character (temporarily named Deerfoot) visually without reading the text (personality, his role in the story, anything else?) and, possibly, if you can think of a good name for him? (I was thinking Conri, an old irish name meaning ‘king of hounds’)
(Nameberry and Behind the Name are great resources for finding good character names btw!)
After judging him mercilessly, then you can read the text if my handwriting is legible lol.

December 11, 2023 at 11:09 pm #169274Ok so you have to make sure your drawing/photo is 900×900 pixels tops if you wanna post a jpg on here

December 11, 2023 at 11:16 pm #169275Also, is my design recognizable and clear?

December 12, 2023 at 12:05 am #169278Also, here is a drawing of another of my elf oc’s, that is an homage to one I made about nine to ten years ago who was basically cardboard in terms of depth, and the black hair was natural versus this one who dyed his hair at one point lol.

December 12, 2023 at 12:05 am #169279Does it have a good sense of movement? is it clear what he’s doing?

December 12, 2023 at 12:25 am #169282I love those!
Deerfoot has a recognizable design and a clear silhouette, I think. He seems like a cheerful, charismatic guy who’s maybe a bit adventurous and care free? (I can’t focus enough to read the writing rn) Also, I like really like the name Conri, but I think you should also keep Deerfoot as a nickname or something cuz it sounds cool.

December 14, 2023 at 10:26 am #169618HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, ya all have probably seen the rare drawings I post here and know I’m a realist perfectionist, and I’m trying to break that!!!! I’m such a perfectionist that I just can’t be happy with what I draw if even one piece is messed up. It’s affecting my mood and my life in general, so I decided to take a break from it all and try drawing cartoonist…but I have no idea how to!!!!!!!! Everyone says cartoon is easier, ask me and it’s sooooo very hard! I made one good cartoon drawing (only half a face, XD) but I haven’t since.
How in the Galaxies do you guys draw cartoon!!!!?

December 14, 2023 at 10:44 am #169619I actually have the exact same problem that you just described. I can relate to that a lot.
I do not actually find cartoons easier. I much prefer cartoony styles, but I have a much easier time drawing realistically (except the hair. *shivers*).
I am by no means as skilled as some of the artists on here, but I would recommend finding examples of styles you like, studying them, and using reference pics (just don’t get obsessed over making your drawing exactly like the reference pic). Reference pics are extremely helpful in my experience when you’re trying to figure out how to draw a certain style.
I hope this helps!

December 14, 2023 at 10:52 am #169620Yaaay! I’m so glad your trying cartoons because they’re my favorite!
I think the biggest element of a cartoon is exaggeration. So if the character is doing something or displaying an emotion, make it ten times bigger than it would be on a normal person – or just simplify it so it’s obvious. So if a character is disgusted, stretch their face in wonky ways so they are properly horrified by whatever they’re eating 😂 Another thing – even if your cartoon style is a little less cartoony, like some anime, you can still exaggerate certain traits so they are more obvious, and speak to the personality of the character. Like if a character wears a floppy hat because she’s eccentric, or has super long eyelashes.
That’s all I got right now! Good luck!!

December 14, 2023 at 3:26 pm #169703I totally get being a perfectionist with art and I have some tips for getting over that too if you want. I think for drawing cartoons, the best way to learn is to figure out how to break things up into their basic shapes and be able to mimic those shapes and their placement on your page. Once you can do that, you can learn to exaggerate the shapes you like, like Whaley said. Also, you should totally use reference pictures and then delete/throw away the reference pictures when you’re done drawing so that you can’t compare it to the drawing anymore. When you’re using references, just worry about getting the general idea or mood and not about making it look exactly the same.
