I also wanted to say…the scene above made me realize a couple of things about Riker/Franz in the 2nd novel…mostly how Riker sees everything…
- Riker still loves his father. As a young boy, Riker wanted to be his father when he was little (that probably went away when he was, like, 11, I’d say?), especially when he heard the story of how his father saved the life of one of his friends during the Great War (what we know as World War 1), thus getting injured yet saving his friend. Riker saw his father as a hero (which is really sad, knowing that Riker has seen that his father is not the hero Riker wanted to be😭). Because of this, and because Franz is his father, and the fact that Riker is so loving and forgiving, Riker loves his father even though his father has hurt him time and time again…which leads to Riker getting more hurt, especially given his submissive demeanor towards his father. (partially due to love, but mostly due to fear).
- Riker believes (due to his “crimes”) that he deserves his father’s abuse. For those of y’all that have read several of my scenes, y’all know that Riker believes that the only just punishment for the crimes he (unknowingly) committed as an officer of the SS is Hell itself. He believes that Hell is what he deserves, and that anything less than that isn’t enough punishment. And I just realized, when writing the scene above, that because of that, in the 2nd novel, Riker has the belief that due to the wrongs he’s committed, a sinner like him DESERVES the pain of his father’s abuse.
so yeah, that’s just a couple things I noticed that I hadn’t thought much of until I wrote that scene 😭

oh btw, this is completely random but one time while looking up a reference image for drawing, I came across a screen capture from some video game (don’t know which one exactly), and the character in the image looked like Bucky Barnes. Literally almost completely him, except this dude had an eyepatch. I’m wondering if the game designers used the actor’s face and body shape as a design starter, because it was definitely not a Marvel game.
