Hello, I have a question for you all. Do you celebrate Christmas? Apparently, some Christians don’t, which I did not know until this month. After doing some research on Christmas, I’m on the fence, but I’m curious as to what your thoughts on it are and why you think that.

December 13, 2024 at 11:57 pm #192007Yes, but not yet. Most people are celebrating already, but in my church, (I’m Anglican), we have Advent first. Unlike most people think, Advent is not the Christmas season. It is a penitential season focused primarily on the second coming, not the first. My dad says that if you do Advent right, Christmas should be a consolation prize, because Christ isn’t back. We should and do still party like crazy though. We begin celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve night, and continue through the 12 days until Epiphany, which is when we remember when the Wise Men came. This is its own 8 day feast and should not be neglected. It’s significant because it is when Gentiles were first invited into the Kingdom of God. Then we have Epiphany Tide, which is basically just the days from Epiphany until Candlemas, or the Feast of the Presentation, which is on February 2nd. Also during the 12 days we have the Feast of Stephen, the Feast of Saint John the Apostle, and the Feast of the Holy Innocence, which occur on the 26, 27, and 28 respectively. During Advent, we also remember the Feast of Saint Nicholas on December 6th.
So, short answer is yes, but not yet, and not just Christmas. I did know a few Christians didn’t celebrate Christmas, but I don’t understand it. Why wouldn’t a Christian celebrate the birth of our Savior?

Devote reddamus!December 14, 2024 at 7:08 am #192009Yes, we celebrate Christmas! We Celebrate it as a remembrance of the birth of our Savior and in anticipation of His return. (I’m a Covenanter/Reformed Baptist)
Here is a really, really amazing interview about Christmas done by a pastor and famous Christian actor. It is so good and I like to watch it every year. I think it’s only twenty minutes.

December 14, 2024 at 8:32 am #192010Yes, I celebrate Christmas. Being Catholic, I also do advent during December. It’s a time of reflection and preparation for Christ’s coming. Christmas for my family and I is when we rejoice because Jesus came to Earth, and when we remember His birth and His love for us.
However, my parents have decided to abandon certain Christmas traditions such as Santa Claus and the Christmas tree. They never wanted to lie to us about Santa, and so they were always truthful about where the presents came from. I respect them for that; I don’t like being lied to. They also chose to drop the Christmas tree because
a) we don’t have space, and
b) it would distract us from the real meaning of Christmas.
I’m not sure I really agree with that, but seeing how much importance a lot of people place on Christmas trees, I think it’s wise not to have one.
Anyway, yes, we do celebrate Christmas. You should see the number of nativity scenes in our house. Right now, from where I’m sitting, I can count six of them.
"Io non ho bisogno di denaro.
Ho bisogno di sentimenti."December 14, 2024 at 9:01 am #192011Yes, I celebrate Christmas. I don’t see why I would not. Christ has come! Glory to God in the highest! Peace and goodwill to all! I celebrate Christmas because Christ has come, the one who saved our sins! I don’t see why one would not celebrate Christmas if a Christian. It seems a little farfetched to say, “Oh, we are not going the celebrate Christmas, because of, this, this, and that.” If you are saying that you are not understanding the meaning of Christmas.
Joy to the world! The Lord has come!
Let Earth receive her King!
Let every heart prepare him room.
And Heaven and nature sing.
And Heaven and nature sing.
And Heaven, and Heaven and nature sing. This is what I think of Christmas, feel free to disagree with me.

Devote reddamus!December 14, 2024 at 12:07 pm #192020That’s really cool, I’m a Catholic and we celebrate Advent too though we don’t have all the same days as you mentioned.
Thanks for the video, I’ll check it out.
Understandable of your parents, the whole Santa thing is one of the bigger objections some people have to Christmas. Also I love that you have a lot of Nativities.
I think I agree with this, although one of the reasons I asked this is because of a few objections to Christmas I’ve heard. This is towards everyone else too on the topic, but I asked this question because one thing I’ve seen is some Christians don’t celebrate Christmas because it’s not explicitly stated in the Bible. That seems a strange objection though, because wouldn’t God want us to celebrate His Son’s birth? Another one is that supposedly some pagan festivals took place on December 25th and the date was chosen to Christianize it. This claim is repeated a lot and generally accepted as truth, but when you do some digging there really isn’t any substantial concrete evidence the Church chose December 25th solely to redirect people from the festivals. Anyway, sorry for the long explanation lol.

Right, the coming of Christ is one of the major parts of our faith. Without Christ coming, there would be no death or resurrection. Therefore, it should be celebrated.
With the Pegan thing, it doesn’t really matter in my opinion. As long as you are celebrating Christmas as a celebration of Christ coming. I’ve also heard that the Pegan thing came after the Church started doing Dec. 25th as a celebration of the birth of Jesus to try and kick down Christians in a way, but I could be wrong. Like you said, there’s not enough evidence.

#AnduthForever (Lord Willing)December 14, 2024 at 1:15 pm #192025Yep, I celebrate Christmas!
I celebrate it with a little different intention than many Christians do. Lots of people believe it is morally right to celebrate it as only Christ’s birthday, and we should have focus and do nothing else; as a child I was confused about this because it doesn’t mention this holiday anywhere in the Bible.
I don’t think it is required to celebrate His advent on Christmas specifically. It’s fine to celebrate Christ’s birth any day, whenever you feel called to think on those portions of Scripture, and Christmas is a fine time.
At the same time, I think it’s fine to enjoy other Christmas stuff (non-religion-specific traditions), because in history this has been a day of family and fun. We do fun things throughout the whole year, why not have fun traditions on a day?
That’s what we do. Christmas service, Santa, tree and gifts. Also we have a delicious cookie recipe which I should definitely post on here… (:

#AnduthForever (Lord Willing)December 14, 2024 at 3:17 pm #192036Yes ma’am!! Similar to like a lot of people celebrate I think… We never grew up with Santa, so that’s never been a thing (we have nothing against it, of course, we just never “believed” in it as kids). We decorate our house for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving and we set up our Christmas tree (we have wayyyy too many ornaments XD). We normally going to a few Christmas parties in December for church or school or whatnot, and our church typically has a Christmas Eve service. Then we open presents on Christmas Day.
I honestly don’t understand why a Christian wouldn’t celebrate Christmas. Sure, it’s not mentioned in the Bible (but I believe Easter isn’t either…correct me if I’m wrong), but it’s a time where we all get to set aside time to celebrate the birth of our Savior. We can celebrate that any time of the year, but Christmas is a perfect time to slow down and remember (even though the holiday season tends to be hectic sometimes, lol).
Oh and yes, we also have a ton of nativity scenes. 😂

December 14, 2024 at 3:19 pm #192037We also have a new tradition where we eat a different cuisine for dinner on the three(?) nights leading up to Christmas. Like Mexican, Chinese, pizza, and then on Christmas Eve we eat finger foods so there aren’t a lot of leftovers to leave room in the fridge for left over Christmas dinner. 😋
