Rosey Mucklestone replied to the topic Showing the Story in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 7 months ago
Totally! Showing, not telling is a really basic principle of good writing.
Like, “Timmy was amused” becomes, “Timmy tightened his mouth, trying to hold in his smile, but a small snicker still escaped.”
Something like that. 😉 -

@kate-flournoy I will have to agree with the newsletter. You are indeed a superhero. 🙂

*pops in late* Y’know, short stories are a good way to do fun concepts that just won’t pull through into a novel. That’s usually my modus operandi. 😛
Though I’ll also ditto @daeus on the planning thing. If you plan it and it doesn’t go anywhere, problem solved and not a lot of writing time lost. 😉 -

I loved the rhythm throughout the whole thing. Really cool. 🙂 -

I think Staccato Notes could work, @spradlin. Double meaning, y’know. 😉

Sweet! It’s about time you got a blog, @spradlin! 😉
Hmm… Notecards & Novelists maybe? I’ll keep thinking. -

((Yeah, I’m going off Kate’s. Sorry @gretald, I just don’t know what I would have done with the window. I probably would have had her see something boring like a sock.))
His declaration does nothing to calm me down. Lovely. Two more burning questions. I didn’t have enough before.
I turn my gaze back on him, “What do you mean that only one of us…[Read more] -

*nods* You have my forgiveness @kate-flournoy. (or should it be @dragon-flournoy?)
Aaaanyway. On the topic of the topic.
We should come up with titles for everyone. This needs to be a thing. I’ll make a logo.
@kate-flournoy needs something to do with dragons and @daeus needs something with the Count of Monte Cristo.
We’ll debate this more… -
Rosey Mucklestone replied to the topic We need a name in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 8 months ago
Perfectly normal for writer’s forums, @daeus. I should know. XD
In the meantime… @kate-flournoy… *wags finger disapprovingly* You should at least be polite if you’re going to turn into a dragon without warning. -
Rosey Mucklestone replied to the topic "Silver Strings" Poem in the forum Poetry Critiques 8 years, 8 months ago
Great job, @jadamae! 😀 I think the “as their ears with music teem” has a better rhythm to it in that line.
Kate and Daeus caught pretty much everything I would have pointed out (darn you fast people) so no other complaints here. 😛 -
Rosey Mucklestone replied to the topic Dominoes… in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 8 months ago
@kate-flournoy Yeah, totally get that. One thing I’ve started the habit of doing is keeping a list of all the little things that could become important later. Never just let it drop when the character sticks something in their pocket, meets a stranger or something little like that. 😛

“I believe, young sir, that those miniscule chips of stone you just purloined from the tree stump belong to me.”
Kaden frowned up from where he was making a small rock circle, “Nuh-uh!”
Gillespie raised an eyebrow and leaned forwards with his hands clasped behind his back, “Then would you care to explain how they came to be in your…[Read more] -

This might be a relatively short-lived topic, but it’s worth having.
So, what should we call ourselves? One Year Adventure Novel people are OYANers. Are we KPers? Are we Knights of the Kingdom Pen? Are we Pen Wielders? Warriors? Rangers?
Anyway, thought that might be a delightful dilemma for everyone.
Maybe we can even have knighting ceremonies or…[Read more] -

“Well, geez man. I just remembered one little detail. It’s not like I’ve got everything now.” I’m a little annoyed with how cryptic he’s being.
He tilts his head and keeps his eyes fixed on me.
I lean back against the wall and we sit in awkward silence for a bit as I peruse the stunningly empty archives of my mind. Nope. Nothing.
I turn to look at…[Read more] -

“You came here in that magical box of yours, remember?” He frowned, “I’d think after all the time you spent explaining it to us you would at least remember you had it…”
“Oh…” I felt my face grow a little red, but I tried to keep my expression the same, “Yeah. Just… seeing if you remembered right.”
So that’s it then? I’m a time traveler? I…[Read more] - Load More
Thanks. 😀 It’s not like it’s been a lifelong ambition of mine, or anything… I was shocked when I read it… but I guess I have a reputation to keep up now. 😛 😉
