Exactly. Both of you guys. 🙂 I really like it as an element when well used, but sometimes it’s just like “Oh my goodness… again?”
In response to your random thing: YES THE TINTIN MOVIE. <3

So, recently I went through all 23 of the Tintin comic books and counted exactly how many times he got knocked out. And, including all of the ways he was rendered unconscious (knockout gas, chloroform, getting shot, almost drowning, and the ever popular whack on the head) it numbered to about 60 times.
60.
This is one guy in a 23 book series.
So,…[Read more] -

*curls into a ball* Nooooooo…. I’m so ashamed. I’m not usually the one to mess up on stuff like that. Forgive me?

Rosey Mucklestone replied to the topic The Depths of Description in the forum General Writing Discussions 10 years, 6 months ago
Generally, I’d say only when it’s important to the story or you’re establishing a setting. You’ll be seeing the story through the characters’ eyes, so as far as nature and surroundings descriptions, only observe when your character is observing.
However, descriptions of emotions and the characters themselves is another topic altogether…. I’ll…[Read more] -

I think it would be rather limiting as far as character development. You can’t develop the main character, because it’s the reader and the reader will be different people.
However, you could teach lessons through that sort of storytelling… hmm…
Not sure. I’ve had that thought before, hearing about second person. I wonder if there are any…[Read more] -

I’d say just put yourself in the shoes of the reader. Would you be okay reading this, or would it make you uncomfortable?
The golden rule comes in handy a lot of the time in writing. 😉 -

@kate
Matthew Christian Harding is the author. And tell me when you check them out when your eighty three and we old folks can have book discussions together. 😉@Hope
EXACTLY. The “coming to grips with it tool is really powerful. It shows it as a part of the character’s journey that way and they’ll be a better person because of it. It’s an…[Read more] -

@Kate
Exactly. 😉
XD Well, you’re never read the Peleg Chronicles, so we’re even. 😛@Mark
Great points. The foreshadowing thing definitely makes it seem more real once the character does die because they were sort of expecting it because they were warned. They just need to be shown that the story can work without the character. But they also…[Read more] -
Rosey Mucklestone replied to the topic Science Fiction: What? in the forum General Writing Discussions 10 years, 6 months ago
The first book I wrote was a sci-fi. And I don’t even read a sci-fi a lot. 😛 I definitely agree with what Mark said. Make it make sense. Explain yourself concerning the gadgets and such and don’t make it be completely unbelievable. Actually, quite a few of my book gadgets I’ve seen the starts of in real life. Like robotic suits for soldiers and a…[Read more]

I like it pretty well, though haven’t written anything much in that era. A little in Ireland but that’s about it.
The Peleg Chronicles kind of spoiled me for that genre though. It kind of has a medieval feel to it as far as government and technology. And the author said he’s trying to expand the genre of that, so I started a book set there, though…[Read more] -

You know those /really/ cheesy scenes in movies and books when someone says something like, “Uh, guys, I’m still here you know…”
Yeah, I’m not gonna say that.
… because in the really cheesy movie scenes, they are usually insulting that character. Not complimenting them.

@Natalee
Totally understand that. 😛 I usually like it when that happens, though because I sort of plot out where I think the story is going to go from the point I’m at, and someone coming back usually throws off my predictions, which I, strangely, enjoy very much. So, I’ll echo your last part. 😉@Kate
Hmm, that sounds interesting! Never read…[Read more] -

Almost exclusive british isles decent here. And I started writing a book set in Ireland at one point, though it wasn’t too well researched. I know a bit about it, though.
I’ll provide a second opinion for Kate’s stuff. 😛 -

Ditto Natalee.
And a virtual book tour is sort of like creating a blog chain for your book. Recruit a bunch of blogs to put up a review of your book, or an excerpt, something like that. Then pick a day for it all to go up, and link it all on your…[Read more]

Well, I have the two stories on here:
And then I have three books on lulu.com. Odd Team Out, a sci-fi much loved by my siblings and much in need of a rewrite. Amazing Honesty, my OYAN novel. And Tales of Faith my short story collection.

I self published and haven’t sold a ton of my books. But I sold quite a few setting up a “Local Author” bookstand at our town’s street fair. I do wish I had business cards then, but… oh well. Next time. 😛
Also it’s good if you have a blog to do promotional sort of things on there. Character interviews, book excerpts and such. And, on the blog…[Read more] - Load More
