@kate-flournoy In retrospect, it’s sort of already been done. Have you ever seen Biff Tannen from Back to the Future? XP

Rosey Mucklestone replied to the topic The "diversity" trend in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 9 months ago
A lot of the time, the actually authentically diverse books include diversity in part of the concept. Like, it’s a detriment to the story that these people don’t fully understand each other… or have certain prejudices against each other… stuff like that. But then there are the books that just sort of squeak them in there because they can.
I…[Read more] -

Nice work, @bluejay. I would have probably gone with some alien story. 😛
Chattering noises fill the air, jolting me uncomfortably into wakefulness. I frown, but don’t open my eyes. It was a truly exhausting day yesterday. I toppled two whole kingdoms and killed about five heroes and it really took it out of me. My minions should know better than…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy and @sarah-h Loved that idea! XD We actually have a running joke in our family that I’m “Somebody” and my brother is “Everybody”. 😛
“I say… er… good sir?” I squinted against the bright sunlight to the guide loading the camels ahead. He looked up at me, his white teeth contrasting sharply against his nut brown face.

Dialog is probably my easiest part to make sound interesting. But I’m trying to stop using it as a crutch.
I agree with what @kate-flournoy said about saying what you want your reader to see. Just ascribe the most vital and interesting parts of the movie in your head. Also interesting comparisons and descriptions, original ones especially, really…[Read more] -

@kate-flournoy That top one actually sounds like the plot of Eight Cousins to an extent. XD
A super cheerful, perky character who swooshes around in a long, evil-looking, black hooded cape.

I’m actually in the process of writing out the gentle giant knight and action-girl princess story I had the idea for on here. 😛 Thanks for starting it up, @hope!

“Ah! Mommy, there’s the panda! I love him so much!”
Yet another child’s squeal reached my ears and I glanced up from my bamboo munching to the adoring crowd that seemed to always be crowded to near my enclosure.
I sighed and lumbered about halfway to them before sitting back down to eat the rest of my snack.
“Wow!” observed a nearby zookeeper.…[Read more] -

Yeeeah… I wouldn’t agree with the point of that section at all. :/
I mean, in the Bible we hear about those who thought they were serving God by doing good works in his name only to hear in the end “I never knew you. Depart from me, you who practice lawlessness.” With that, it seems pretty obvious that a pagan can’t, without even knowing God,…[Read more] -

I’ve actually seen it done in the book Princess Academy. Not exactly as titles, but they were there at the beginning of the chapter and there weren’t any titles. It adds an interesting element to be sure. Sometimes it distracts, so usually it’s best if they have some bearing on the events at hand in the story.

I’d say sticking them with a strong personality (not strong as in “butch-chick” strong. More just consistent) is a starting point. It took me a while to get Jean working because I did a bit of a self insert at first and it took me a while to stumble my way out of that. But I worked out my second female MC’s personality first the next time and I…[Read more]

I drifted gently out of the air to land next to the wide-eyed child standing next to my tree. “You have awoken me from my tree,” I explained to him, “Now I am obligated to give you a wish.”
The boy’s mouth opened wide in a smile, “Sweeeeet!”
I continued, “You may have anything you desire. Except…” I held up a finger as he began to talk, “…more…[Read more] -

I sighed and looked around my old, dusty tree home. A small stool sat across from me with its broken leg I’d fixed with sap and the braided grass rug on the floor.
Fancy, huh?
There were so much better trees in the forest. Why’d I have to stick around this one? And with no excuse to move to another one…
I looked wistfully out the knothole in…[Read more] -

I’ve had a wordpress site for a few years now, though @daeus seems to be a little more glib at explaining things on the site building front.
I shall remain as backup if needed, though. 😛 -
