Well, my brother (reading snail) picks up on the nuances pretty well. But he’s nothing close to being a writer. 😛

The giant boy loomed over the two terrified, shaking, green frogs as they huddled on their last remaining lilypad. An evil smile stretched across his face and his hand tightened on the jar he held as he came in closer.
The smaller frog, unable to look, buried his face against his brother, who stood tall, making a falling attempt at…[Read more] -

I actually read too fast. I pick up all the details and everything, but I usually want books to last longer than I make them by reading so fast. I have to rein myself in and be sparing, usually. XD My family nickname is “the reading cheetah”. My brother and sister were dubbed the reading snail and moose, respectively.

Welcome to Kingdom Pen, Cahndida! 😀 Always nice to have a new face. And OYANers have quite a bit of a headstart on understanding the KP insanity, so you’re in a good spot. 😛

Oh… I know what sort of a scene you’re talking about. Let’s see. Hope had some good stuff. I’d say, probably uncovering some previously unknown back-reason that the villain has been running with might be a good thing. Maybe study a few book/movie scenes where a similar thing happens?

Actually, Kate, it’s using quite a bit of the method we decided was the best for writing christian themes. Write from a solid moral base and the outcome just naturally is something solidly moral and good. 😛

@faithdk Haha, yeah.. you’re way ahead of me on the farm thing. We mostly raise thwarted attempts. (Chickens- eaten by eagles. Sheep- attacked by dog. Cows- running away.) So, awesome job keeping goats and chickens going! *thumbs up*
That’s cool about your articles! Quite a variety of newspaper locations, too. Howdja pull that off? -

Hey-lo, @lightingmouse! Welcome to the KP forum!
Yay! Another OYANer! 😀Okay, gif inserting tutorial. You have to have a link for it to work, but it looks like you’ve got that already.
So click the tab that says “img” and paste the link there. Enter just whatever you want for the alternate text aaand you should be good.
Behold.

I have enough to fill all the roles separately, though I’m the oldest person participating at 16 years old.
Costumes and props… not sure at the moment. But there’s a lot lying around we could work with. -

I see what you’re saying @hope. I think Megamind probably just starts his character arc lower than most. 😛
I will admit it was funny. I just can’t shake this weird feeling after I watch it, though. Not a happy “Oh that was a good story”, but more of just an “ugh”. I don’t know. -

Backstory: Our family celebrates the Jewish holidays and Purim (the holiday about Esther when we all dress up) is coming up pretty soon. The family moms got together to plan the party and I was unknowingly volunteered to write a play of the book of Esther.
So. I’m doing that, and I have a bit of a deadline. I am going to be the writer…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy Yep. He’s pretty much the classic bully-villain type. Everyone has to do what he says NOW. Or else.
And he has wonderful respect for everyone around him. Fall under his slightest displeasure and you are deemed a “butthead”. XP -
Rosey Mucklestone replied to the topic Delayed Character Arcs in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 9 months ago
Exactly, @kate-flournoy. The arc of the story needs to have a slow rise to a lesson. Not just wandering along as a flat line and then a sudden lesson spike up right at the end.
Also, both those movies were pretty good, conceptually. But when you aren’t able to root for the characters, it’s a big hole in the storytelling. -

So there are two movies that I don’t like. Before I was a plot-analyst writer I didn’t really know why, but I just didn’t like the main characters and I didn’t like the feeling I had afterwards.
Feel free to disagree with me, but I don’t like Megamind or Over The Hedge.
And I think I figured out what bugs me so much about them.
The character arcs…[Read more] - Load More
