@kate-flournoy @daeus @warrioroftherealm
Hi everyone! I apologize for the extended silence. I’ve been thinking and praying about this conversation a lot, and I’m finally ready to present my answer. It does not honor or please God when we entertain ourselves with evil. As Christians, we are to walk in the light, and not play in the darkness. Our…[Read more] -

@warrioroftherealm No, they’re just simple melodies on the piano only. I don’t know how to play any other instruments yet, so I haven’t transitioned them at all.
Sorry about disclosing that thing. I’m pretty nosey. Speaking of which, is your profile pic you? I like to know. There’s not too many people that do pictures of people who aren’t them,…[Read more] -

I used to ONLY write third person, and I had no idea if it was omnipotent, or omnipresent, or whatever. Still don’t quite remember those. @Daeus what are those things?
But now I write mostly in first person. I like focusing on one person personally better, and it lets me put in weird thoughts that I probably wouldn’t if it was third person.
But…[Read more]

@daeus On concern of replacement words, just use things that people might say that fits their personality. So, if a villain were saying it, he’d probably use something closer to ‘rats’ or something like that. If a hero were saying it, he’d probably end up saying ‘Grumpy giraffes.’
Sure thing, @daeus. 😀
@warrioroftherealm Don’t worry, I know…[Read more]

@daeus: Cursing may seem to add a natural feeling to a character, but, in my opinion, it shouldn’t. “Bad words” are called bad words for a reason: they are often offensive. Just consider how some people feel about this. If you publish your book, you might sell more copies if people felt better about recommending it. I personally wouldn’t recommend…[Read more]

“”2. What words are you using? The D-word, or something worse? I would say that the D-word is the one word that is the least bad of all the cuss words that exist (not saying that it’s right, but that it is not as terrible as saying the S-word or something). “”

Ok, so for the first one, basically I’m setting up the difference between my MC and this other character (I’ll call him character A). It’s very important that this group of other characters come view my MC as representing their interests and character A as being against them. The impression needs to be very strong so the…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm For question one, I’ll answer for the two that I that I feel are important. The other’s I can probably whip up a replacement for. The first is from an antagonist, though not quite villain. He curses another man. It’s not at all necessary to make him appear bad, but it does play an important role as a foil and, more importantly,…[Read more]

Hi friends,
I recently received edits from some friends of mine which caught my attention because they pointed out a few instances where some of my characters used coarse language (and asking me to remove them). It was only a few instances (maybe five or so), but I actually didn’t realize I had that many. Now, simply from a pragmatic perspective,…[Read more]

I play the piano and I’ve written three songs on it, and they all don’t last more than two minutes. But I’m still proud of them. The first one I ever wrote was when I was twelve. I called it pin-ball machine.
@warrioroftherealm That is weird we haven’t crossed. I just got on here in September I think. Yah. But I’ve been hounding it before that,…[Read more]

I’m sorry everybody, we were having a really good discussion and then I got it all sidetracked on dinosaurs. So, Jackson brought up a really good point about the magic being influenced by a cult. Since everyone seems to agree that the series was influenced/ inspired by the…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm I hadn’t considered using an online or cd-rom-based course for guitar. That’s a good idea though– thanks! I would like to become more proficient, so that maybe I can actually play in some other keys. 🙂

Well the vote seems unanimous! Slua it is. On closer inspection, I think I like it better myself as well. Facin sounded better in my head than when I actually wrote it down. 🙂

@warrioroftherealm Yeah, I started writing songs when I was much younger, and they ended up with titles like “Snow is Falling” if that gives you any idea of the quality. But my music teacher has always emphasized music theory and stuff, so I started to get a better handle on what makes a song good recently.
I also have been playing piano as my…[Read more] -

Oops… I got your tag wrong. No hyphens. @warrioroftherealm
I think chordally, so I almost always start with the melody and fill in the words, tweaking the melody as needed. But that’s just me. I think it’s because when I come up with something instrumental, it already has a meaning to me, so I know what the words are going to be about and it’…[Read more] - Load More
