@warrioroftherealm – I was thinking a river (like aforementioned), barbed wire, guards, dugouts, etc. 😀

A forest…a maze…a river, like Kate said… @warrioroftherealm What genre is this for?

Kate Flournoy replied to the topic *Stereotype Alert* in the forum Characters 7 years, 1 month ago
@warrioroftherealm no character is ever cliche if they are approached as a person with a logical reason for being who and where they are in life. It sounds like this woman has a very good reason for being ‘strong’.
At the same time, I think ‘strong woman’ is frequently misunderstood or misinterpreted. A strong woman is not a masculine woman. A…[Read more]

@Warrioroftherealm I looooooovvvvve polictical intrigue, and everything Kate said and more. AS LONG as it’s character-driven, because if not then it turns more into uninteresting info-dumps like Snapper hates. And I don’t like ’em either.

@warrioroftherealm I forgot to give my two cents, but I have nothing interesting to say. I like political intrigue done right. *nods* There. My two cents has been bestowed upon you. 😀 -

I HAVE ARRIVED.I not only adore political intrigue in fantasy, I believe it can be absolutely essential for developing your world and characters.
Disclaimer before I explain that— a fair chunk of my characters are inherently political by very…[Read more] -

@warrioroftherealm Here’s honesty.
I do not like the political intrigue, if it’s what I think you’re referring to.
INFO DUMPS.
AGH!!

@warrioroftherealm oh my heavens. This question. Just— I have a rant, okay? And I don’t have time to rant it right now.
But just you wait.
Just.
You.
Wait.

@warrioroftherealm YES!!! Definitely. It must have intrigue. I looove political intrigue.
Granted, that opinion is probably heavily tainted by the fact that I’m an ENFJ, but ENFJs are always right, so I declare this debate over

@warrioroftherealm Why would she be fighting an angel? *confused*
But maybe she could know some kind of self-defense karate type moves, and could knock the sword out of his hand?

Daeus replied to the topic Female in Sword Fight? in the forum Fantasy 7 years, 1 month ago
Well, it depends. You should know that men don’t have a particularly large advantage over women in a one on one combat. The disparity mainly exists in battles where men can keep fighting way way longer.
The trick is, I assume this angel is quite competent with a sword. The best idea that comes to my mind is that she could try…[Read more]

@Warrioroftherealm I have some sword fighting experience, so here’s my two pence.
– She’d have to use her lighter weight (I assume) to dodge around and use the landscape to her advantage.
– She could use a lot of deflecting methods (not directly blocking her opponent’s blow, but more of a ‘knocking it to the side’ idea, if that makes sense) and…[Read more] -

@warrioroftherealm ooh boy. Her only chance is to be quicker and lighter and wear him out, if one can wear an angel out… 😛

@warrioroftherealm No, unfortunately. I’ve created three, but I haven’t started writing the stories they are in yet. Hopefully I’ll start on them a month from now.

@warrioroftherealm Well, I don’t think that any of your readers will blame you for stereotypicalness. After all, ever since LotR, people have viewed Elves and Orcs through that lens. Personally, I find it distracting if the races are too out of range, so to speak. Definitely do what King @daeus said, and deepen the cultures, but otherwise, I don’t…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm First of all, the most important thing is that you have a good story. Good world building is fantabulous, but it’s primarily the story that makes a fantasy novel succeed.
I also think that replicating Tolkien’s creatures is common enough that nobody will blame you for it. It certainly won’t mark you out as a distinctive author,…[Read more]

1. Look at the ground. Invisible people still press down the grass or other things on the ground.
2. Dirt in the air is not where the person is.
3. Something is smeared or stuck on the invisible person, so people can see floating smears. *shruggs* Maybe?
4. When a…[Read more] - Load More
