What are some ways to separate two enemy countries at the border, yet have someone accidentally cross it (or go to war)? I thought about a wall, but that’s not really original.

@warrioroftherealm a river?
A forest…a maze…a river, like Kate said… @warrioroftherealm What genre is this for?
Writer. Dreamer. Sometimes blogger. MBTI mess. Lover of Jesus and books.
@warrioroftherealm – I was thinking a river (like aforementioned), barbed wire, guards, dugouts, etc. ?
@warrioroftherealm Simple boundary markers could work.
??????????????????????
@warrioroftherealm A canyon? Although, you’d have to be really absent-minded to wander across a canyon. @that_writer_girl_99 *steals maze idea for own story*

@warrioroftherealm A thick line of pine trees that seems almost impossible to cross.

Ooooh – If its fantasy, then I’ve always been fond of the invisible barriers that make the crossee confused until eventually he turns around on himself back into where he began from . . .
This is for fantasy.
I don’t think vikings would care whether someone put boundary markers there…
“Oh look! Red flags! We’re not allowed to raid here, men!” 🙂 Just kidding.I like the river idea!

@warrioroftherealm Everybody had good ideas. Maybe just an infertile area of land which no one wanted. Something like that could eventually become a boundary.
@warrioroftherealm Maybe there’s a curse if you cross the border which drives people away. That may be a little too in-depth for a barrier, though.

If it’s for fantasy, how about a territorial species that guard a sort of no man’s land, or a species unique to each country that guard against the enemy?
