@gh24682468999 Woah…nice long tag. 😛
Well…I’m not quite sure how to help you here–dialogue has usually been natural for me. I learned mostly by observation in reading. Some books have some really good dialogue, and somehow, when I was ten, managed to soak that up.
So I guess what I’m saying here is that definitely observing what other…[Read more]

@aislinn-mollisong First of all, I just read your prophecy and had to say you did a great job with it.
As for writing in first person, I think that could work great. Of course, third person could work great too. I’d recommend trying them both out and seeing which one you like better.

@livylynn I have self-published once.
When I first started writing, I really wanted to be traditionally published, but I eventually did a 180. The reason was simple. Since I was a beginning author, publishers would want to see my platform before they published me. And if I already had a platform, why not self-publish? After all, self-publishing…[Read more]

@that_writer_girl_99 Didn’t see your previous reply to the subject. On that front, I think it’s helpful to distinguish between a theme and a message. A theme is just a topic like mercy or justice. A message says what you should do with regards to that specific topic (e.g. you should always how people mercy, or you should be wise on who you show…[Read more]

This doesn’t have to do with being a writer, but the problems I have as a writer when I have a writer fail moment.
ME: What color hair does this character have?
SIBLING: I don’t know. Depending on the scene, it varies from black to blonde.XD I’ve never had a character who can change hair color from scene to scene.

@epicaddie2 Not from what I know of. If you’re worried that the character arc isn’t going to fit in your book, then I’d shorten it, but the characters is what carries your story. The character arc should not be immediate or too small. Character arcs can last for a few books maybe too, if its a major life aspect.
But if you think about, our lives…[Read more]

Great question. My answer would be not to let yourself or the readers pin the Warden into a clearly evil camp or a clearly misunderstood camp. Most people have complicated motives, so weave that into the Warden as well. Personally, I think that has the potential to really deepen your story’s them as the reader is forced to wrestle with the…[Read more]

@that_writer_girl_99 I will humbly acknowledge that Kate probably has a much better answer than me, but I don’t see your dilemma as a huge problem unless you want the warden to be a pure character. You can just depict him as a character in a very complex situation who doesn’t like what he’s doing, but doesn’t know what other choices he has.

@gh24682468999 I support what @perfectfifths said. It sounds though like your main problem is not that you aren’t showing reactions, but that you feel like you have too many and it’s cluttering your prose.
I assume you’re using action tags (i.e. Sam put on his glasses. “Don’t I look cool in these?”)
Action tags are extremely helpful to a story.…[Read more]

@epicaddie2 Welcome!
@that_writer_Girl_99 Motion Picture class? That sounds like so much fun! I’ve looked into scriptwriting before, and yeah, the format is odd. I find Times Roman much more friendly. 😛 -

@dragon-snapper I personally use this site and just play with alterations on the different names the site generates until I find the one that works for me: https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/ The most important thing for me is finding names that all seem to have a similar vibe/similar culture behind them in a story.

Heya Kapeefers!
I needeth opinions.
After various consideration, I’ve come across the conclusion that perhaps some sci-fi and fantasy names are a bit to…crazy.
I mean, the most famous names in fiction are Harry and Luke and Frodo and Bilbo. None of which are overly complicated or hard to pronounce.
So what about you? What do you think is…[Read more]
