@Anne-of-Lothlorien a ‘jerk’? Excuse me? 😛 Um, Peter was the jerk? I actually liked Caspian better in PC than VotDT, though Edmund was the best in PC. Fight me. XD
Ha… well, so long as it doesn’t become an obsession I don’t think it’s wrong to appreciate if someone looks nice, though I never really thought about it… or him… I mean, I like…[Read more] -

@Anne-of-Lothlorien I really didn’t care for the movie. Eustace and Reepicheep were brilliant, but otherwise I really couldn’t get over how much cheaper it was than the book. I know some can separate the two stories and enjoy them for their own sakes, and more power to them— but I just really did not care for the movie. 😛 I didn’t like any of…[Read more]

@dragon-snapper It tends to depend on your type of writing. Personally? I tend to lean more towards one or the other depending on how I want to tell the story. (Let’s hope I can explain this in a way that makes sense)
I tend to use first person A LOT because I find it’s more personal and interactive. I think it’s easier to connect to as a reader…[Read more]

I haven’t been around much lately I’m afraid. *dramatic sigh* But I am back now and more than ready to participate in a conversation about my favorite romance of all time. I have already read this book more times than is generally necessary and so @bluejay thank you for the excuse to read it again.
Writing a novel in Jane Austen’s style though……[Read more]

@Emma-Flournoy eeeep!!! That wasn’t supposed to come out yet. 😛
@Anne-of-Lothlorien well, a writing blog. Not so much ‘how-to’ as it will be… I don’t know, encouraging? Inspirational, I guess you could say. And a little bit of everything that the more technical sights don’t talk about— psychology, personality, the philosophy of storytelling…[Read more] -

@Daeus exactly.
@Anne-of-Lothlorien author— Christopher Paolini. He wrote the Inheritance Cycle; the one we’re debating here. 😉

@Anne-of-Lothlorien you mean @Ivy-Rose? *grins*
Sounds awesome. -

@Sarah-H I appreciate your concern and the thought you put into this, and I have to say I agree for the most part. However, once again I believe you are assigning Satan more power than he actually has.
Believe me, I am not ignorant of the presence of evil in literature. I don’t read blindly or blindly accept the worldview of anyone if I see that…[Read more] -

@I-J-Anderson Irish? Oh wow, thanks. *grins* It’s French— Huguenot origin.
Yessssss! People— I love people. I’m not as good at painting them as I’d like to be; still life seems to be easier for some reason, but I love working with people because no two are alike and there’s such room for expression and personality. I love it.

@PerfectFifths good question. The difference between third person and deep third person is that deep third person actually delves into the thoughts of the characters, not just stays on the surface and monitors their actions.

@Anne-of-Lothlorien not me. I mean, I may have done it subconsciously in a few diary entries, but that’s about it. (My diary is a mess of gargantuan proportions from a literary standpoint. Don’t ask). 😛

@daeus so what exactly is permaculture?

Kate Flournoy replied to the topic First or Third? in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 5 months ago
Deep third person. I write sprawling epics with gazillions of characters, and deep third person works best for those kinds. If I was writing YA or something similar with only one MC, I’d probably choose first for a deep personal connection though.

@Daeus just thought I’d let you know I won’t be write-a-thoning tomorrow— no success hunting today, so I’m going out again tomorrow. I did get lots of outlining done though. 😉

@Daeus hm, yeah. That’s a puzzler. I would probably not do that, for the sake of my conscience and because I wouldn’t want to get accustomed to having bad words on my lips, even if they aren’t mine.

Oh, dear. You asked the question. You see, most practitioners don’t even know how to define it, because it’s such a broad subject, but I came up with my own definition that I think hits it at the heart, and I double checked and receive a thumbs up on the definition from the guy who’s probably the leading permaculturist in the world. My definition…[Read more]
Wow… that is actually really cool. Yes, that does make sense. 😀 What would you do with it? Did you take classes or something? Or did you go to college?
@Daeus
No, it was an e-course. I think it lasted three months. At the end, you had to submit a proposal for a property design and then if you showed understanding of the material, they passed you. I actually did the Craig’s property. …and they still haven’t even seen the design. Which is fine, since I would need to edit it first.
I could contract as…[Read more]
