  • Hi everyone!

    I’m considering joining the Author Conservatory, and I was interested to know if any of you are in it? If so, what are you thoughts on the program? Things I should know? Pros and Cons? Is there anything you wished you’d known before you joined, but didn’t?

    For me, one of the things I’m struggling with is that I have already written…[Read more]

    Oh, fun! That sounds like a very smart job. 🙂

    Yes, Susan! 🙁 I think (desperately hope) that she does end up in Narnia… (Aslan did say “Once a king or queen of Narnia, always a king or queen”) I think she was just trying to be grown-up… That could just be my older sister bias coming through though… 😛

    Well, I am grateful…[Read more]

    Interesting… veeery interesting.

    Well, I aaam obligated to hold up my end of the bargain, well this may come as a shock to you but…

    I’m actually an assassin.

    (Don’t worry I haven’t killed anyone yet  ever -I’m a pacifist-)

    Don’t be confused it’s normal in the assassin community.

    Also, this is top secret so don’t let this get out.

  • @typewriter77 Well, are phrases like “she ran like the wind” or “the apple of one’s eye” or “it was a dark and stormy night” copyrighted? Often these things become clichés because they are so frequently used. I don’t believe that three words like so would be exactly plagiarism. However, if you were truly worried about that, I would study sentence…[Read more]

  • @typewriter77 Well, I’m afraid that I’m the type of person who doesn’t know what their own theme is until someone explicitly tells them. I’m that clueless and unprepared, usually. And to me, usually in good literature themes are hard to pick out clearly, but you can feel that it’s there.

    I think that each scene and character could show a facet of…[Read more]

    Hmm, not always, I don’t think. XD Avocados are actually in a subclass called “drupes”! Pretty interesting, LOL!

    Oooh, hadn’t thought of it that way! XD

    Oh, that’s super cool! You’ve been writing for longer than I, lol. Have you finished any novels as of yet? 🙂

    LOL, that sounds so funny! XDD I love…[Read more]

    Oh, dear. I am incredibly late. (*facepalm*) Welcome to the KP forum! I’m Lydia. 😀

    Those are awesome genres! I’m currently working on contemporary, historical romance (mainly working on this one), and fantasy, but my main goal is to write Biblical fiction. *glances longingly at the stories stored in my brain *

    @typewriter77 Hey! What’s up? I’m Grace! (You may be wondering about my profile name.. it’s short for Kadotake, one of my aliases, but my friends here nicknamed me Kads, haha)

    First of all, I love the name Seth! 🙂

    Second of all, a few questions for you, and then I’ll say a bit about myself in case you’re interested. XD

  • valtmy replied to the topic Themes for mystery/thriller? in the forum Mystery 4 years ago

    @typewriter77

    I think the right theme would emerge once you have a general idea of the characters and how the plot should go. For a short story, perhaps you might want to avoid some of the bigger themes which would require an entire novel to do justice (pun intended).

    Since your story is to be a mystery/thriller, one idea that came to me is to…[Read more]

    No no, you weren’t late at all (I can be behind schedule when it comes to replies, so don’t worry about it)!! Oh yes, fantasy is at the top of the list for my favorite genres to read and write, so it sounds like we have some things in common already!:) Wow, that’s so amazing! I’d love to hear more about it if you care to share! 😀 O…[Read more]

    @typewriter77

    It kind of depends on your characters, I think. A couple of the themes I’d be interested to see in a detective short story would be loving enemies, and trust. I feel like there are some unique ways those themes could be explored in a short story.

  • Abigail.M. replied to the topic Introduction in the forum Start HERE 4 years ago

    @typewriter77

    Okay, I’m a little late welcoming you here, but, anyway, Welcome to Kingdom Pen! I’m Abigail by the way and it appears everyone has taken all the good questions, except for the two that I ask everyone, what is your favorite setting to write in? And what is your favorite character type? Not fully astounding questions, but I’m always…[Read more]

  • @typewriter77 From the posts I’ve seen about how to pick locks or shoplift at the beginning whoever wrote it always puts a huge disclaimer that these tips are for writing purposes only and not for in real life.

    I myself am usually too lazy to go into detail about anything, lest I mess any details up, or, perhaps, accidentally teach someone how to…[Read more]

  • @typewriter77 A lot of those themes seem to work, in my opinion! God’s Justice vs Man’s Justice I’m not sure could be written in just a short story…maybe a longer work. Courage, trust, and Truth vs Deception could be in any work, I think, and Sin & Salvation as well as Loving Enemies both propose great story premises.

    Good luck!
