Back to this topic with a new hypothetical case.
What kind of trauma would make a young man cry? Would being strangled within inches of death and then having to hide it be enough to loose the floodgates? Assume that he’s already in deep depression and has already tried once to commit suicide. Would this heavy trauma make him cry like a baby?…[Read more]

Ahhh, those times @kate-flournoy. Once we were playing Samson, so the kids tied me to a table and then shouted “SAMSON!!! THE PHILISTINES ARE ATTACKING!!!” and thankfully it was easy to get out.

An, appearing on island: “What on earth is this random place? Is there food? Tell me there’s food. Who on earth are all you guys?” *Spins around and sees monster* “And what on earth is that THING?”
(Sorry I’m late. Was hung up over a two-day conference.)

Ooh okay this sounds like good fun.
I’ll use my current favourite character in my WIP: Lin Ping An. But everyone just calls him An. He was from China, but moved to work. He’s a guy who seems to be unable to take anything seriously and is the sort of person you’d want around at a party, but when trouble strikes he can be very sweet and sincere.…[Read more]

@Daeus @Kate…hmm…actually you know what? I’m quite sure that what I said was correct; but I don’t have a legitimate answer to why either of your ‘corrections’ might be wrong. That sometimes happens.
Oh…to actually contribute something relevant to this thread, here goes. I write because I think that my writing is actually a lot better than…[Read more]

@Kate I’d like to know how you make those em-dashes. And yes, what you said made me very happy because that’s my point. I need people to use proper English. I might become the most annoying person in the world but at least I would have had corrected people. Sigh I guess it’s part of me.
@Daues you’re forgiven. (But don’t do it again!!!)

@Hope I’ve read the Wingfeather Saga but I didn’t cry at the end. Personally I didn’t like the protagonist and found him rather irritating…but the plot was good. Writing style and grammar not excellent, but the plot was admittedly riveting and very complex.
@Kate I only JUST finished the Lord of the Rings last week and now I’m a new fan. I’m…[Read more]

Guyyyys I want to know what books have made you cry and why.
For me I only have five and I feel quite proud of myself that I don’t just cry at any old book. They have to be SUPER good books. But yeah, here you go in chronological order of my tears.
1) Ransom’s Mark by Wendy Lawton: because I was a small kid about age ten and when Olive’s sister…[Read more]

Okay well what about this kind of situation? A young man who has never known a biological father but meets a fatherly figure and grows to love and admire him as his own father. But then the father figure dies suddenly and traumatically, leaving the young man in absolute shock. But then he’s taken away from the scene immediately and not even…[Read more]

So…my writing style is a very heavily emotional one. Not the crazy everyone is crying type of writing lah, but more the very deep dark heart issue thingy, if you get what I mean. My specific problem that I’m throwing out to all the guys here is this:
What makes you cry?
Because you see, I’m writing from a first person POV, and my character is…[Read more]
