Rochellaine started the topic Character Name Exchange in the forum Fantasy 8 years, 8 months ago
Hi everyone!
I just found out recently that I like making up names. But I can’t use most of the names I make up because I don’t write fantasy so I don’t have any need for cool/unusual/just plain weird names. But I do know the troubles that come with naming a character, and thought that maybe someone here who has a character with a missing n…[Read more]

@sage-g Maybe I could contact her on Etsy?

@sage-g Wow! I LOVE your sister’s work. It’s just the style I was looking for! Realistically proportioned, but cute enough for kids books. 🙂 And it’s amazingly detailed! Is there any way I can contact her to see if we’ll be able to work together?

I’ll copy and paste the “requirements” I had written in my original topic:
Since they are for children’s books, they can be simple or detailed, and I don’t really have a preference for black/white or color, except that color would probably sell better. I don’t mind if the illustrations are a little cartoonish, though I like realistic better.…[Read more]

Hi everyone, I’m still looking for an illustrator for my children’s books. If there’s anyone out there who is interested or who knows someone who might be interested could you let me know?

Rochellaine replied to the topic Futeristic Executions in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 8 months ago
@seekjustice This is an interesting question but I am going to take a different approach from everyone else.
You know in the book of Revelation where it talks about those who were beheaded for Christ? These are martyrs from the end times who were beheaded. My mom’s theory is that futuristic executions will be beheadings (is that a word?) b…[Read more]

@itisastarrynight I’m glad you were able to make a decision. I just wanted to let you know I am impressed and humbled by the fact that you spent so much time in prayer and scripture study to determine whether what you were writing was right. It reminds me that I do not do that nearly often enough, but usually write what I think of. So thanks fo…[Read more]

Rochellaine replied to the topic If You Know Anything About ASL in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 9 months ago
@anne-of-lothlorien I don’t actually know anyone who is deaf, but I have interacted with and observed several deaf people, and my mom took some classes on ASL in either high school or college, so she’s told me a little bit. Here’s the compilation of my knowledge. 🙂
1. Deaf people do make sounds and move their lips while signing. The sounds a…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 Though I did say it first, it isn’t so much about internet access to the Bibles, actually, since we have seen how the internet can be censored easily. But when you can carry 100 books on a hard drive no bigger than your finger, it would be hard to censor those. 🙂
And burning Bibles would still be a big thing, as there are millions…[Read more]

@jenwriter17 Definitely definitely Robot Wars. @mariposa How dare you beat me at recommending them when I read them at least five years before you did? 🙂
They are really very well-written in every way. Every time I see that they’re set in 2040 I wonder how much Sigmund Brouwer has correctly predicted – and how soon we’ll find out…

@jenwriter17 I like #2 a lot, but I have read a lot of books with the same premise. That doesn’t actually bother me at all, because I love everything cliche and stereotyped, 🙂 but it might be hard to write it different enough that most readers would like it. (I would probably like it anyway.)
I also like #3, but an important thing to note m…[Read more]

@that_writer_girl_99 I agree with @daeus that the English longbowmen were amazing. This is my favorite description of a demonstration of the use of the longbow.
It is from a book by G. A. Henty called By Right of Conquest (About the conquests of Cortez) and is in the public domain, so I copied it from gutenberg.org to a google document. An Eng…[Read more]

@bella-d And I’m thrilled you’re thrilled I know who those authors are! 🙂 Do you like Jeanne d’Albret because of reading the Chosen Daughters series? My favorite in that series was Margaret Wilson in Against The Tide.
Have you read any books by Lois Walfrid Johnson, Robert Elmer, or R. M. Ballantyne?
@notawriter and @daeus Thanks! My bra…[Read more]

@radically-surrendered Chuck Black’s books are great! Have you ever played his board game? One of my brothers got it for Christmas.
If you really would like my ideas or advice, do you want my email address?

@bella-d @dekreel I love those authors too!
H. Rider Haggard is an AMAZING Historical Fiction author.
Elizabeth Elliot – you should have heard of her husband Jim Elliot and Nate Saint, who were martyred by the Aucas, now called the Waorani. She later went back and taught her husband’s murderers about Christ.
Douglas Bond – Another His-Fic…[Read more]

@mnvalentine I actually don’t write fantasy. 🙂 That’s why I have trouble naming my genre. I do a little bit of Historical Fiction, and I did some time travel, which is Science Fiction, but…[Read more]

@radically-surrendered Thanks, that makes sense.
I’d love to be a beta reader or just talk it over with you while the story progresses! I have one request though…
Would it be possible for you to write it without using the words “magic”, “sorcery”, or anything of that nature for anyone on the good side? “Power” would be an easy s…[Read more]

@bella-d My absolute favorite genre is Historical Fiction! I have had a bit of trouble writing in that genre, though. I write mostly modern fiction (is there a name for that genre?).

Oh, and @skredder The themed wedding is a cool idea, but I think themes weren’t as popular back then as they are now, and it would only be 5-7 years after the era in the picture, so it would be more likely to seem out of style than themed, if they did such a thing. 🙂

@skredder Thanks for the ideas. I just researched a bit of what you were suggesting, and found that in the 1930s, the Hollywood industry was secretly very pro-Nazism, but by 1941 they had completely flipped and supported the American end of the war very much.
In the 1950s there was the “Hollywood Blacklist” a figurative list which an actor,…[Read more]
