@seekjustice Okay, I figured out what to write, so now I’m just trying to put it on paper – um – on the computer screen. 🙂
Austen. I can tell in reading her books that she was a good author, but I didn’t really like them, either. I liked Emma okay when I read it about two years ago, but now that I think about it, I probably wouldn’t like it mu…[Read more]

@seekjustice How silly of me. I forgot to answer your actual question. I’m studying Criminal Procedure, which we joke is “how to proceed as criminals” but is really how to proceed in things like searches, arrests, and criminal trials.

@seekjustice Oh, just a short statement about what I learned this lesson, and a question about something I didn’t understand. A few paragraphs long. Just have to decide what to write about – then it’s easy. 🙂

@seekjustice It’s only a little past 11:00 here on the East Coast. I’m working on a (very short) law school writing assignment. (Does that count for writers’ corner? It’s not fiction or anything.)

@ceaseless-prayer Oh my goodness! Does that link have a reference to Oak Brook College of Law? What’s your connection? I’m a third year student.

@daeus Haha, okay, I guess people do it in different ways. I rarely plan more than the sparsest of plots, and sometimes even those get changed as I go along. So when I put in chapter breaks, they often get switched back and forth during the editing period. My completion marks are more set where the character decides something or goes so…[Read more]

@kaya-young I like mostly American history and culture from about 1910 to 1970. I used to be totally into the Civil War, but I’ve kind of backed off that a little as I got more interested in the 1900s. I do like reading about the Irish Potato Famine, because of the connection it had with the Irish immigration to America. 🙂 I don’t like An…[Read more]

@waterlily I’ve done it both ways. It’s not that important in the first draft, but if in writing it you feel that you really want a chapter break somewhere, you could put it in as a page break and a “CHAPTER” above the text without signifying chapter numbers. Or instead of this you could just put in a line break such as: ~~~. That is what I us…[Read more]

@ingridrd Great! I like Devan because it makes me think of someone who’s a bit of a rascal, but still confident and commanding.
I also love the name Larik, which was posted here by @daughteroftheking . A regular name that gives me the same impression of character is Zac.

@dekreel I love it! 🙂 Thanks!
@ingridrd Do you have a little more information about your character? Just saying he’s a guy doesn’t explain much. Is he sweet and caring, or tough and distant? Is he big and muscular, and can he fight his own battles, or would he rather be behind a desk? How old is he? I would use these to get a picture and t…[Read more]

@waterlily I’m sorry, but I’ve got to go now too. It’s 12:00 a.m. here, so I’m going to get some sleep. 🙂
Happy writing!

@waterlily My Contemporary Western novel. A little outlining and rewriting, since I haven’t worked on it in a little while. How about you?

@seekjustice Whoops! Just got a call for Family Worship. I guess I’ll be back in half an hour or so if you’re still here then. 🙂

@seekjustice I’m here. I’ll be working on my Contemporary Western novel.
Are you outlining the sequel to Stars Fill Infinity?

@kaya-young I’ve used words from other languages a couple of times as names. I think @skredder actually got her(?) username by searching for the meaning of her name in another language. I like the ones you chose. I really dislike the Spanish name Dolores which means something like “Tears of the Virgin Mary” but your twist to the original in La…[Read more]

@notawriter Oh, if you want to have specific guidelines, most girls names will end in vowels, and most boys in consonants. (This is not a strict rule, but like the “i before e” rule – lots of exceptions.) 🙂

@notawriter Well, I have a little side hobby of studying language. Not, you know, parts of speech or anything, but sounds, and – um – I don’t really know how to describe it. Like, for example, you can make a name sound like it came from the Saxon era in England if you use “ae,” “th,” “dl,” or a couple of other common combinations of letters in n…[Read more]

@ingridrd How’s it going? I wrote about 300 words which ended up a little bit like what I had originally written, but now I’ve switched to editing another short story. (I get distracted easily.)
