I don’t share my writing with my family, either. A while ago (like back in middle school) I would write stories about a fictional family, based off of my family, and re-tell my family’s vacations that way. I let my brothers read some of those, and they were criticizing it left and right, so I stopped letting them read my writing.

I wouldn’t say it’s weird to not share your writing with your parents. Actually I’d say it’s pretty normal. I only share poetry and some short stories, because I don’t like sharing things before they’re finished, and I’ve never finished a full-length fantasy novel 😅

I think it’s up to you. I don’t think there’s any sort of moral imperative here. I personally would rather keep my writing mostly private. (It feels different to share my writing with other writers.) For me, I prefer the idea of getting to present my family with something complete, or at least a nearly complete draft.
