@perfectfifths I have only attempted two stories, both of them historical fiction, and both very unfinished. Once my writing skills improve, I hope to write spiritual warfare fiction, like This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti. Other people have posted snippets of their writing in Scene Critiques, and under the SciFi topic; I just remembered I do…[Read more]

@anne-of-lothlorien: I have written a short Choose-your-own-Adventure story in second person. It was fun, but incredibly difficult! I can’t imagine doing 2nd person in any other way than a CYOA. That’s one thing I never liked about CYOA’s. Sometimes, they would say things like, “If you decide to chase after the criminal, go to page 8. If you…[Read more]

@perfectfifths *very late reply* Oh, I’m glad it was encouraging! That’s why I became a writer, too; there really isn’t enough good Christian fiction out there.

Yes, @PerfectFifths. That is second person. I do like some CYOA stories, except for the ones that never have the choice i would do, like this example someone gave
“You just broke your mother’s lamp would you (a) sweep the pieces under the carpet (b) throw them out the window,or (c) blame your brother?
Neither!

@PerfectFifths good question. The difference between third person and deep third person is that deep third person actually delves into the thoughts of the characters, not just stays on the surface and monitors their actions.

I used to ONLY write third person, and I had no idea if it was omnipotent, or omnipresent, or whatever. Still don’t quite remember those. @Daeus what are those things?
But now I write mostly in first person. I like focusing on one person personally better, and it lets me put in weird thoughts that I probably wouldn’t if it was third person.
But…[Read more]

@perfectfifths, No Claire is not my real name. (surprise, everyone! :P) I’d rather not say what my name is on a forum as open to the internet as this, but it starts with B (and I would be willing to tell you if you want.) We were in Perth from about, let’s see… 2004 – 2008 and then late 2009 – early 2010, then we set off to PNG as missionaries…[Read more]

Daeus started the topic Coarse language in the forum General Writing Discussions 9 years, 5 months ago
Hi friends,
I recently received edits from some friends of mine which caught my attention because they pointed out a few instances where some of my characters used coarse language (and asking me to remove them). It was only a few instances (maybe five or so), but I actually didn’t realize I had that many. Now, simply from a pragmatic perspective,…[Read more]

*crawls out of her hole to greet the world again* You said cake and ice cream! I’m kind of ashamed of myself that I didn’t come out here more, but anyways, I reached 50,000 at about 1:00 am November 29th. (So, the night before the last day.)
@winter-rose, @his-instrument, congrats! *confetti and glitter* And everyone else who did NaNoWriMo…[Read more] -

@perfectfifths: sorry I’m a little late but welcome! Another music person! Perfect fifths are great. Unfortunately, I don’t have the privilege of living in Australia. I’m stuck in the good ol’ USA. Hearing about other countries always fascinates me. What is it like over there? Is it as pretty as everyone says?

@perfectfifths Thank you for the congratulation!
I have to say, I was surprised at what I was capable of when I set myself a schedule and stuck with it. 31,000 words is still impressive, though! Well done! It takes dedication to be a writer at all, and even more dedication to actually finish a novella. Keep up the excellent work!
By the way, do…[Read more] -
