@daeus All right, Thanks, that sounds good. When I actually start on the story (and now that I have someone editing/”keeping me accountable” I will probably get that done sooner 😉 ) Thank you!

@emma-flournoy @ethryndal Thanks, guys! 😀 Normally I wouldn’t go for this since it’s such a small word limit, and I struggled to try one that had 1,7500 (2,500 more words than this) but the prize is… extremely generous and I do have something that I actually need it for. 🙂

@kate-flournoy No smoke? That was anti-climatic 🙁 😀
@daeus Coolies; I should probably check out her blog more. Any posts you recommend reading in particular?

@daeus Oh, and the blogger is a Christian. Bonus! I always love finding Christian writers – it’s a wonderful mix, isn’t it? 😀

@daeus Wow, that article on Boba Fett was, wow 😀 I never realised before you can develop so much character with one line/thought/action/look. Thanks for that!

@dragon-snapper (Having just seen the BFG, your name sounds like something he would say 😉 ) Yes, I have gotten the advice of keeping minimum description, etc, that is something I will keep in mind as I write.
@kate-flournoy *waves away smoke* *cough cough* I look forward to it!
@daeus Ah, I hadn’t thought of that before, writing a scene rather…[Read more]

Hi, all!
I wasn’t sure whether to post this in Short Stories or here, so… Yeah. Anyways.
I am wanting to enter a competition that’s here in Australia, and one of the requirements is for it to be no more than 1,500 words. Normally I’d say that’s crazy, however the prize has encouraged me to try the challenge.
I’ve written a short story before,…[Read more]

@sierra I have no idea, but that reminds me of something; I found an online app that you can paste your writing into and it’ll show you words that are passive voice, rather than active, complicated words that have simpler ones of the same meaning, and sentences that are hard and difficult to read (so, two levels) So I did that, and was shocked to…[Read more]

I got an estimated 21,900 words. To be honest, I thought I’d do quite well (I am a wordy person) 😛 but I was surprised how many words there were that I didn’t know! Anyways, that was an interesting test to take; thanks for sharing, Sierra 😀

@leumeister @daeus What if you made them running…? Would that give a question – like, what are they running from?

@daeus Oooh, this is exciting! I love the idea of trilogies. I’ve never written one, but I think it would be a fun idea!
I’ve read a couple of trilogies, though. The first example that comes to mind is, obviously, The Lord of the Rings. This trilogy has an ultimate goal that the main MCS are consistently working towards in every book. Namely,…[Read more]

Also, very late, but I wanted to post 😉
I love historical fiction in the Middle Ages… I haven’t read a lot of it, but the idea really appeals to me. I have written a couple of fiction stories, which aren’t quite fantasy, seeing as there’s not magic or mythical beasts (well, in one there is, but that’s a legend within the world 😉 ) at the most…[Read more]

Wow, this looks amazing! I don’t know if I’ll be beta testing, but I’ll definitely ask my parents about signing up for the course, when it’s been released. I’m glad to know it’s self-paced, because I have a habit of taking a long time on these things 😉
Thank you, guys, for all the effort you put into helping all us writers…[Read more]

What if his “full, official” title is the Silver Spark/Flame of Dimwood, and everyone just shortens it to the Silver Spark/Flame? By the way, I see your point about going for spark rather than flame, but as @dragon-snapper said, it’s quick and passing. But I love how he rebels and wears silver. 🙂
Other words for “spark” and “flame”…[Read more]
