Here are my picks:
1. The Hobbit
2. Ender’s Game
3. The Sign of FourJust wondering, @daeus , why The Sign of Four? It’s good, but it’s not the first book of the Sherlock Holmes Series. Since some of us may not have read the first book, A Study in Scarlet, that might be a better pick. It truly introduces the characters.
Sorry if I’ve been a…[Read more]

Take all the time you need, @hope . Pick the one that clicks with your story and what you want the reader to expect from it. If you don’t love either of these then maybe you’ll think of one you do … probably when you’ve just turned out your light to go to bed and got into a comfortable spot.

@hope , Powerless Fate and Powerless Name are the only two out of the first list that really seem to make sense. I don’t think power is shattered, or powerless, though I suppose it could be crowned. 🙂
I prefer Powerless Crown to Crowned Powerless. The latter sounds kinda interesting, but then it gets a little confusing since it sounds…[Read more]

I’m done, @bluejay . Today I just copied and semi-edited some 567 words of writing from a day or two ago onto my computer. (I was lacking in inspiration tonight and this had to be done anyway, so …)
Did you write any?

I can go at least 20 more minutes, @bluejay . 🙂

I’ve got my Captain America socks on and I’m ready to write! Do any of you want to join me in about five minutes?
I’m thinking I’ll write anywhere from 25-45 minutes.

I think I’m done for now, @bluejay . I got 178 words written. How are you doing?
Oops! Sorry, I was writing and missed your last comment. I wanted to get 100 words finished before midnight. I don’t think I’ll be writing any more tonight, although I may try to hunt down some missing notes. I feel certain I wrote a specific scene already but…[Read more]

I know what you mean about connecting to MCs, @hannah-c . I think it would actually be easier if I wrote in third instead of first for me, because then if the character is a girl, I won’t be trying so hard to make her NOT like me. It will be easier to imagine her as a separate entity from my imagination, if you know what I mean, although first…[Read more]

Oh, sorry @bluejay . I must have misread your comment the first time. Thanks for the low-down, though. I didn’t know all of the numbers yet. 🙂 Someday I must write an epic! I love long books, so long as the plot is deep and intricate enough to need that much developing.

I think you could totally use it, @hope . There is a book I like called, “The Choosing: A Seer Novel.” There are other books already called “The Choosing” so the author added a definition/series thingy to hers. That makes it stand out. That’s one way to do it. Or you could just use the same title by itself. That can be rather tricky though…[Read more]

@hannah-c , if planning consists of writing lots of disconnected tidbits about my characters (to get to know them better) and the story before actually beginning the first draft, and then writing lists of main story events in order that I end up scrapping or reworking, then yeah, I do it. 🙂
Honestly, though, there is nothing fancy or methodical…[Read more]

Thanks, @hannah-c ! Good luck to you too.
So far, I’ve written 1,544 words. Writing has been kinda slow since I still need to finish organizing my notes and read over my prewriting before I can really go forward with it, but I should have that finished within the next couple of days.
How are things going with the rest of you and your…[Read more]

That’s a tall goal, @bluejay ! Have fun with that. 🙂
Fantasy is lovely to write, @winter-rose . I use it as my excuse to daydream more. 🙂
Wow, @anna-brie ! I completely forgot that not everybody on here is enjoying the first-fruits of Summer. Well, I like your not-so-Summery goals! Congratulations on finishing your first draft, and good…[Read more]
