Thanks for breaking it down for me, @daeus . 🙂 I’ve been reading up on what different story writing terms mean lately, since I realized my understanding of them was a little on the hazy side. (I mean is on the hazy side;) Your post helped me grasp the concept even better. Defining concepts like theme, plot, message, goals, etc., deinitely…[Read more]

I’ll be okay. I’ll stow my story for tonight and give it a fresh look in the morning. (Then I’ll be ready to tackle it in earnest) 🙂

I am thinking about my theme, @daeus , and the more I think about it, the more it changes and drives me crazy! 😉
Is this my theme or my story’s?
Theme as it is now: You can’t embrace and fulfill your destiny without facing your fears.
What do you think? 😉
Another possible theme I’m considering: What you think you want and what you really…[Read more]

I don’t know, @bluejay . Maybe my story is bothering me for a reason. That’s the hard part, trying to figure out whether my gut is trying to tell me something or if I’m just plain overthinking and nervous about the whole thing. Sometimes I think it’s awesome and other times I feel like I have two stories that I’m trying to stitch together like…[Read more]

I think, @daeus, the story goal is for the hero to embrace his purpose. So, I suppose it’s a story of self-discovery.
I could go into more detail, but I’m not entirely positive of the exact moment when the story goal is reached yet. (I have lots of ideas floating around in my mind, but I haven’t written enough yet to be definite. I think it…[Read more]

I actually do chapter outlines and scene outlines, (nothing fancy, just between 1 word and 2 sentences that remind me and summarize what takes place) usually after I’ve already written them and they are partly finished, just so I know at a glance what takes place in them.
I haven’t written my whole novel yet so I don’t know if this works for me,…[Read more]

I really, really love you guys! 🙂
Seriously, this writing community is the best thing that’s ever happened to me as a writer.
@bluejay, that is helpful. 🙂 And your day sounds awesome! It’s steamy hot here.
@daeus , your question hit the nail on the head for me. When I asked myself that question I discovered that what really makes me so…[Read more]

I don’t think she lacks vulnerability, @daeus . You can see her sensitiveness in chapter two. She seems pretty vulnerable to me then, ‘though she doesn’t complain or whine to them about how she feels or what she’s been through. That would be none of their business since she doesn’t really know them yet.
She’s very British and level-headed.…[Read more]

It’s actually pretty easy, @kate-flournoy. *Tries to explain and fails* *finds quick video instead* Try this. 🙂
And thanks! 🙂

Come’on @daeus , that line is totally classic. Of course, I’ve seen it more times than I can count, so I ought to know it by now.
Nice usage, by the way, @kate-flournoy. Made me 🙂
I got some writing done too, but later than you guys, when I really ought to have been asleep and really wasn’t planning to write at all but was suddenly struck…[Read more]

Yes it is, @winter-rose . It’s actually the only podcast I listen to. Feel free to recommend others if you know of any good ones, although I honestly doubt that any could be as good as his. 🙂
I sorta draw dragons. That is, my main character in the novel I’m writing is a dragon, and I wanted to be real descriptive in my writing so I thought it…[Read more]

I’m glad you liked it, @kate-flournoy . 🙂 I almost didn’t post it because I thought it might be too weird … and I kinda cheated because the prompt reminded me of an idea I had had before for a Sci Fi story so, I really just wrote a new scene based on it. The leaves were my favorite part. 😀
