*drags herself in and flops down in a chair with a wheezing gasp* People… I needs… help… I’ve not been on here lately because I’ve been wading through the climax of my story and that needed extra careful handling so I didn’t want distracting pressure (and it also took a lot longer than I expected. 😛 ). But… I’m here now. Done with the…[Read more]

@Northerner nope. My precious idea is mine own and I shall not share it. *selfishly hoards it all* I will be participating though, and yes, I believe all submissions get feedback.

@sleepwalkingmk Yep–literature can be very powerful in that way by helping a reader look at an issue from a new perspective. Knowing what it looks or feels like in other works is a great first step to doing the same thing in your own works!

@Dragon-Snapper no no, you missed it! They weren’t hoping for themselves. They did what they did in hopes that the people who survived them could use it to make a better world. In faith, I guess.
And… I haven’t watched a ton of Disney, so I guess I didn’t have that problem. For myself, I can just say I don’t think I’ve ever related to an…[Read more]

@graciegirl Nice job. That looks like a great pairing. When I first read through it, my worry was that answers 2 & 3 and then 1 & 4 both looked kind of similar, but reading through them again, I can see the distinctions you’re drawing there. As long as those distinctions remain clear in your head throughout the book that should work out great!…[Read more]

@graciegirl Yeah–it will get easier the more practice you have at doing this with films and books, but some stories are still tough to analyze in this way!
I haven’t read “The Little White Horse,” so my ability to contribute helpfully here is going to be a bit limited. However, from what you said, it could be that the FQ is something like “What…[Read more]

@GraceofSpades2017 sounds like you and @I-J-Anderson would get along splendidly. 😀
Hm. Okayyyyy… I’ve had a few characters drawn, but never a scene. This could be fun. Hmmm… Okayyyy… I’ve got one. Two characters first:
Harold. Nineteen, tall, somewhat lanky, curly/wavy bright gold hair, hard face, flame-blue eyes; very intense and wired…[Read more] -

Oh, and did you notice that the Lies that began both Cassian’s and Jyn’s arc are both passive? For the theme’s sake that was necessary, as they were learning to stand up and do something in the name of hope. That was the whole point.

*tips her hat to you for taking the unpopular opinion*
@Daeus all fair points. I can see what you’re saying, definitely, and in some measure I agree, but it didn’t prevent me connecting to the characters. I thought it was kind of the point that they were all hopeless rebels without a cause. Though I will admit I was intrigued by them more than I…[Read more] -

@Dragon-Snapper uhhhhh… uhhhhh… *gapes at you* Okay. *tries not to stare* Uhhhh… if you didn’t see it, no amount of my telling you what I saw will really do much good, but I suppose it won’t hurt to go through it just in case. 😛

@Dragon-Snapper wow… you want the whole list?? 😛
Well, to sum it up, I love action movies with great plots, and I also adore movies with superb character and relationship development, and I’ll die for a movie with a dynamic, well-executed theme, but it’s so seldom I find even two of those in the same movie. Rogue One has all three. -
Josiah DeGraaf replied to the topic Discussion for Video One: Introduction in the forum Discussion Questions 8 years, 11 months ago
@graciegirl Yep–been there, done that myself! And I agree. Sometimes you can get away with stories that have little meaning if the story itself is really well-executed (Force Awakens would fall into that camp for me), but even then, it only works because it has some meaning, and 9 times out of 10, the story would be improved if themes were more…[Read more]
