Anne of Lothlorien replied to the topic If the whole is bad, can parts be good? in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 7 months ago
I was going to make the point that @mark-kamibaya did; I don’t think listening to that music would be wrong, but you should be willing to give it up if it would cause another person to stumble.

@mark-kamibaya, @jane-maree Yes, I agree. There is the association that, say, someone who watched the show and then stopped might have. Such a person probably wouldn’t be able to enjoy the music as music. And like @daeus mentioned, that is a case one would honor the ‘weaker brother’. In most cases though, as a general rule, I agree with what…[Read more]

@daeus Thank you! The way you explained voice really made a lot of sense!
@ethryndal Thank you!
@kate-flournoy Thank you. What actually sparked the question was that I randomly thought of something my English teacher had said on our requirements for when we were writing our Short Stories last month and I was curious to see what you all would…[Read more]

Hey people. *tips hat grinningly*
There’s this book I just read called Eats, Shoots and Leaves, by Lynn Truss. It’s non-fiction—about punctuation. But it’s not a long or dull read at all, and is funny and very informative/helpful. Especially for people like writers who’d use punctuation more than usual. 😉
The only objection would be: it has a…[Read more] -
Leumeister replied to the topic Aquila in the forum Sci-Fi 7 years, 7 months ago
Hello everybody tagged below!
I’ve got a bunch of unfinished drafts of stories (plus the finished draft for the Pilot for Aquila) and I was wondering if any of you would like to alpha-read some of them (and, perhaps, beta-read the finished draft). I need input on what I’m working on because I’ve got some stories I’m stuck on.
So, for those of…[Read more]

So, I read some of the poems y’all suggested. (I loved the Wreck of the Hesperus). And I tried one of my own. It’s a bit silly, and I don’t like the ‘magic’ and ‘tragic’ rhyme at all, but for lack of a better one, I left it. Maybe someone can help me change it? But how do you all like it?

Hey there.
So.
My brother is an animator. A movie maker. And this summer he is venturing out on another project, and he has made me his co-collaborator or something like that. So he asked me to ask y’all about it and if you like it and stuff.
So… here’s the basic plot. I’m still a bit fuzzy on it and it may not be one hundred percent accurate,…[Read more] -

Emily D replied to the topic Favorite Movies in the forum Film 7 years, 7 months ago
@mark-kamibaya Yes they are totally worth it. Do You Believe is not a funny movie, but it’s still really good. But I think What If is even better. 🙂

Emily D replied to the topic Favorite Movies in the forum Film 7 years, 7 months ago
@mark-kamibaya Yeah, it was really good! I enjoyed it. BUT I like Do You Believe better. And What If. Have you seen them? They’re amazing. (And What If is hilarious. It’s about this millionaire guy who-AND I’m going to stop right there before I spoil the plot. Long story short: it’s hilarious.) Have you seen either of those?

@mark-kamibaya What’s an indie?
@ethryndal I know. The only thing protecting me now are my dragon instincts….and the fact that I’m not alone. I side with @daeus. 😀
@kate-flournoy Well, about the arcs, one reason I didn’t really see them was because they seemed to happen so fast. It didn’t seem like Cassian cared about anything then suddenly…[Read more] -

@mark-kamibaya I did like it. I thought it was very simple without being boring. Because I tend to overthink things, the simplicity of a movie, without having to have Marvel-like chases and things like that. What did you think of it?

Snapper replied to the topic My Take on Cliches in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 7 months ago
@mark-kamibaya Oh, boy. This’ll be hard to explain. 😛
So, a cliche, being what it is clearly has to come from some idea, and that idea is or isn’t a cliche. If it is a cliche, then clearly it came from somewhere, then you have a bunch of cliches within cliches. But if you change the definition of cliche, then they are all original, but they have…[Read more]
