Mark Kamibaya replied to the topic The Antihero in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 7 months ago
I procrastinate. You all know that. It’s been literally a month. But I managed to finish my article on Antiheroes. It doesn’t actually talk about how to write them, but it does delve into the history, morality, psychology, and ethics of the antihero character type (I believe the blog post will answer most of Jess’s inital questions). And I’m gonna…[Read more]

@rachelle I forgot about this thread. Sorry about that. Anyway, I was rereading what you said and here’s what I think:
Scientifically, amnesia basically does erase all your memories. You cannot regain them at all. Regaining them is a Hollywood myth. In that way, your story wouldn’t work.
Also, guilt is a feeling, but it is also a statement.…[Read more]

Thank you for everyone who prayed for my family. It’s amazing how God used this death to glorify himself. Because of my grandfather’s death, my family was able to grow closer together and my granduncle and grandaunt became more receptive to the gospel. God is truly great.

My Spring goals are . . .
-Finish detailed synopsis of my WIP (been trying to do this for four months already)
-Catchup on beta-reading work that I need to do (there are too many to count)
-Write more story-based articles on my blog (I’m a perfectionist when it comes to anything story-related. Thus the procrastination). I’m going for a one to one…[Read more] -

Mark Kamibaya replied to the topic The Antihero in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 8 months ago
@jess So my idea of an antihero is someone who does the “right” thing for the wrong reasons OR does the right thing for the right reasons but in the wrong way.
Ideas about why the antihero is so compelling: Nowadays there is a trend where people crave the “realistic.” They desire lifelike situations and lifelike characters (this can work even in…[Read more]

Top marks to you, @rachelle, for actually having a reason to use a cliche! It’s a pretty interesting twist on a familiar story. Personally, I’d get turned off fast if you had boring characters or didn’t have a theme-glimmer (as Daeus said) to give a sense of the story. So just as long as you incorporate theme and have great characters, I would say…[Read more]

Mark Kamibaya replied to the topic Composing Music in the forum Music 7 years, 9 months ago
I shouldn’t be answering this ’cause I’m not that musical, but everyone I know is super musical and many have composed pieces. And since you’re trying to compose I assume you know the basics down. Chords, notes, and stuff.
First, invest in music theory. You can literally start by just googling music theory. I know…[Read more]

@sierra-r Don’t get me started on the Hobbit. Just don’t. That movie series crashed like a twenty-year old laptop. Those movies shouldn’t have been made. Let me just say that the romance between Tauriel and Kili . . . that was tacked on tension. It’s a master class on how to not do romance.
As for the Phantom? Girl, that’s my favorite musical!…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy As you all know, I love to procrastinate (my fatal flaw). But I’m here one month after being tagged with a reply. I haven’t exactly read all of the previous posts, so I’m probably gonna reiterate something previously said. Anyway . . .
I totally agree with your two main reasons. I actually read a writing book that required you to…[Read more]
