@dragon-snapper Yeah, I really think writing science fiction with these definitions in mind will improve your story at least in the areas of character and theme.
I really like that definition of sci-fi for obvious thematic reasons. Also, sci-fi can’t just be about technology and the extraordinary because that would disregard certain genres of…[Read more]

@dragon-snapper In what way?
@kate-flournoy I’ll try to brush it up a bit this weekend . . .

LOL! 😀 It’s hilarious how easily our brains can become mush. And I realize I came off a bit strong so, sorry if anybody got irritated or anything. Either way, you guys showed me how I need to clarify things in my writing. My main point definitely wasn’t that clear. I’ll probably update the article and tweak it a bit before I send out my monthly…[Read more]

Sci-Fi Research Part 1
So the first thing I did was research what science fiction actually is. I looked for a whole bunch of definitions. Many went something like “science fiction is a genre that deals with futuristic science and technology” or “it’s merely a setting.” Personally, I found the “dealing with technology” definition to be quite…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy @graciegirl @that_writer_girl_99
Personally, I think I didn’t write the article very well, because you’re not getting my main point. Lemme break down what I was trying to say in this article.
In the beginning, I sided with the belief that cliches are . . . well, the devil. Then, I defined a cliche as anything so overused it…[Read more]

Yay! This is gonna start some (lively) discussions.
@kate-flournoy I admit I was confused by your response. A little worried but more confused. @that_writer_girl_99 gave a popular explanation. Then, @graciegirl clarified it for me a little more. But I’m still quite confused (maybe it’s because I lack sleep, but whatevs).
From what I understand,…[Read more]

@dragon-snapper Sorry, very late reply. I’ve seen The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. You think it was good?

@leumeister Yeah, I think cliches are horrible, but what did you think of the article?

I noticed that the KP Community really loves cliches. Like really.
I stumbled upon a really interesting conclusion about the whole idea of cliches, and it totally changed how I look at them. I published my findings in an article. Click here to read it. The KP Community indirectly inspired the whole article, so it’d be really cool if some of you…[Read more]

KP is gonna kill me . . .
Yo, @emily-d (and @dragon-snapper for that matter). Here’s the thing. I said I was writing an article for the Sci-Fi month at KP, but I never actually submitted it. So instead of wasting all the research I put into it, I’ll just post my findings on this thread.
And, yeah, I do have a blog, but I don’t have dedicated sci…[Read more]

@winter-rose Yeah, BJU is a little far from where I live. I live in the Philippines (Southeast Asia), so it’s a pretty long flight from my home to BJU. 🙂 😛

@winter-rose Yeah, BJU does do really good homeschooling materials. But I know some really godly people on staff at the University, so I trust it. You know?

I can’t honestly say, because my own blog is my ideal blog. It blends the topic of story and Christianity/philosophy/opinion articles with some fitness on the side. I sort of want it to be like the Nerdwriter Youtube channel which I think is just totally awesome.
But as for topics, I honestly love philosophical musings and a…[Read more]

Yo @emily-d! I’m currently writing an article on this very topic that will hopefully be published by KingdomPen. The topic of the month of June is Science Fiction so that’s when my article will (fingers crossed) be published.
Right now, all I can say is quality over quantity. Research the genre, analyze books, break down movies, talk to people .…[Read more]

Personally . . . don’t care because I don’t notice. If the book is riveting enough, then I don’t notice. I do notice if the book is a bore. So do what you want. I wouldn’t if I’m pressed for time, bu that’s just me.
