Agh, that makes me so happy!!! So glad I could be helpful. <3333
I know!!! WIPs can feel so overwhelming… I haven’t even gotten beyond daydreaming for my dream project bc I know it’s gonna be big and require a lot of mental maturity I’m not sure I’m ready for yet (Why I do this to myself, I have no idea…) So, yeah, I get it!
(And I…[Read more]

(*cringes* I am very late to the party…)
Ooo… This sounds like it will be a fascinating story!!! Retellings are so fun. XD
I’ve dabbled in retellings a little bit, but as I never finished my project (it was a retelling of The Little Mermaid called Rebel.), I don’t have a whole lot of advice for this particular genre. When it comes to…[Read more]

Sorry I’m so late in replying. Life is nuts.
That sounds AWESOME! I love good farytales and retellings, some of my favorite authors being George MacDonald, C. S. Lewis, Gail Carson Levine, and Hans Christian Andersen. (Or at least some of his stuff)
I would definitely appreciate a retelling of Rumplestiltskin, especially as that story…[Read more]

That’s okay. 😉 I wasn’t very clear. The Lost Kingdom of Barmarre was mostly pretty fun; I enjoyed it, and had difficulty putting it down.
Even when it was past midnight…
Anyway,
Yes! It is a good book.
Thank you!
There’s so much potential in losing his gift, which might be a bit of work to figure out, but it will definitely be…[Read more]

@madelyn It was Once Upon a Time, come to think of it. I asked my friends about it.

Your idea sounds so great!! (I for one love little boys in books soooo 😂)
I actually had a fairytale retelling with Rumplestiltskin and maybe one day I’ll return to it. But your talking about yours makes me think of mine and I’m like “Man….it was pretty neat… lol”
So in mine Rumplestiltskin was just an average older man, except for…[Read more]

@madelyn Ahhh this is such a great idea!!! And tying it in with PETER PAN???? SIGN me UP!!! I will absolutely read this if you ever publish it XD Good luck!!!
Advice for retellings? Let your imagination run wild! What if the smallest, most meaningless detail in a fairytale had an ulterior motive, a magical purpose, or was the start of an epic…[Read more]

Hmmm, I don’t think so? I’m sorry for being confusing. (Which I can definitely be.) I think Gail Carson Levine wrote those, and I’ve read some of her stuff (like Ella Enchanted), though not those you just mentioned. Maybe I’ll have to look into them. 🙂 (I did read one called something like The Lost Kingdom of Bamarre, so that might…[Read more]

@madelyn XD Yep! It’s both very exciting and slightly terrifying at the same time.
Let me know what you think when you do! And most definitely agreed.

Aww, thank you! And I will. XP Planning to get it professionally edited next year. . . still not sure if I’ll be pursuing publication with it, but I haven’t ruled the idea out yet.
*salutes*
XD
Yesssss, they’re amazing. It’s good! I don’t think I enjoyed it quite as much as Dust and Shadow, but it was still wonderful. And the cover is…[Read more]

Yeah, Ella Enchanted is good.
If I ever remember the author of Ella, I’ll put it on here. There’re a bunch of different books with the title, but this particular one has a very unique twist. I mean, what other one has the stepsisters be realistic or suffer as well as Ella? Or a pet chicken that likes gossip? (Okay, don’t answer that, I…[Read more]

Awww, thank you! The connection was actually pointed out by a friend, and I latched onto it at once. I’m almost done outlining (just need to run it by some friends and get the chapters sketched out), and then I’ll plunge into the first draft. 😀
Mhm! I feel like I’ve read something recently that had to do with Rumpelstiltskin, but I’m…[Read more]

OH MY GOSH YOU THOUGHT ABOUT TOO WITH ROBIN HOOD AND RED RIDING HOOD?!? ME TOO GIRL!!! In my series I had made them siblings!!! Robin had run away from home when Reddie was younger, moving to Nuodinghan.
Mine was all kinda interconnected like how Red’s father was actually the huntsman, from Snow White and red riding hood, and a…[Read more]

Oooo! Fractured Fairy tales are super fun! I’ve only read a few, and can’t exactly give any advice, but I have a few thoughts etc.
And, hey, you said to say anything, so…
Have you ever read Ella? I know there are tons of Cinderella retelling, and Ella Enchanted is probably one of the best, but I thought I’d recommend this one.

What if Rumplestiltskin wasn’t an old man? What if he was a younger man? What if it was a woman named Rumplestiltskin? What if he asked for a firstborn daughter instead of a son?
Just throwing ideas, please feel free to ignore all of them. I just find what if questions fun.😊

@madelyn Ooh! I haven’t read any fairytale retellings, but a few friends of mine told me about a show they watched which was basically about all the different fairytales mixed together. Like, the descendant of a character from one story was a character from another, etc.
I’ve read the original Rumpelstiltskin story (a few different versions,…[Read more]

Ooh, sounds exciting! Fairytale retellings are awesome. 😀
My current WIP is actually a fairytale retelling, so let me summarize that real quick as I’ll likely be drawing on that a lot in this answer. . .
It’s a novella that draws on the what-if of if the shared last name between Robin Hood and Little Red Riding Hood was no accident at…[Read more]
