@sleepwalkingmk Yep–literature can be very powerful in that way by helping a reader look at an issue from a new perspective. Knowing what it looks or feels like in other works is a great first step to doing the same thing in your own works!

@mark-kamibaya What’s an indie?
@ethryndal I know. The only thing protecting me now are my dragon instincts….and the fact that I’m not alone. I side with @daeus. 😀
@kate-flournoy Well, about the arcs, one reason I didn’t really see them was because they seemed to happen so fast. It didn’t seem like Cassian cared about anything then suddenly…[Read more] -

@graciegirl Nice job. That looks like a great pairing. When I first read through it, my worry was that answers 2 & 3 and then 1 & 4 both looked kind of similar, but reading through them again, I can see the distinctions you’re drawing there. As long as those distinctions remain clear in your head throughout the book that should work out great!…[Read more]

@graciegirl Yeah–it will get easier the more practice you have at doing this with films and books, but some stories are still tough to analyze in this way!
I haven’t read “The Little White Horse,” so my ability to contribute helpfully here is going to be a bit limited. However, from what you said, it could be that the FQ is something like “What…[Read more]

*rubs hands together* Oh, I am getting so excited!! TM has been amazing so far and I’m less than a quarter of the way through. Seriously, how can this be only the tip of the iceberg? 😀
Okay, down to business.
For my current WIP:Theme – Feelings/Emotions
Narrowing Question – What role should feelings play in how we live our lives?
– You…[Read more]

Okey-dokey, let’s give this a go…
Story: The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge
Theme: Pride
FQ: What are the consequences of pride?
Here’s where I’m having a bit of trouble. Throughout the book, Goudge sets up several situations where someone’s pride leads to disastrous consequences, not only for those directly involved, but for the…[Read more] -

@daeus Pretty much, I agree with everything you said about the characters, except how they got better at the end. Because I couldn’t connect in the first place, it was really hard to do so in the final battle. And actually, I don’t really like the movie either, so yeah…you’re not alone.
Also, I found the previews completely misleading, so maybe…[Read more] -
