Ha… yes, his nose. 🙂 For some reason I tend to give my characters noses that fit their personality types. It’s… kind of weird, when you think about it. 😛

Hey @belegteleri, this is a great poem! I loved it, which is saying a lot since I don’t usually go for free verse. The only thing I would say is watch out for the lines that are much, much longer than other lines, as that can tend to break up the flow.
By the way, I thought Beleg was a bowman, not a shipwright. *wink* 😉

An MC who grows up all his life thinking he’s the son of a king, then discovers he’s the son of a pauper.
Actually I’m planning to do that already. 🙂 -

Thank you, @Daeus. That pretty much answers all the doubts I had about this scene.
You should hire yourself out as a professional editor. But honestly, I don’t know how anyone could stand such a profession. 😛
One question— what about the guy? Did the scene pique your interest in him? That’s pretty much the only purpose to have it— to show…[Read more]

‘Kay, this is actually an excerpt from one of my historical fiction novels that I wrote some time ago. It’s pretty much the introductory scene for my second main character, and I’d like to know what you guys think.
Pretty much all you need to know is that he’s supposed to be mysterious— I delve deeper into his actual personality a little later…[Read more] -

It’s not so easy for our brave, courageous hero to walk around with their great-grandmother’s lace croquet pillow and still look fearless.
That so totally made me laugh.

Okay, I think this topic merits reintroducing. 🙂
New thought on this. Sometimes, symbols can be used to actually tell the story.
Let me explain. I’ll use an example because I have no idea if this kind of… thing… has a technical term.Say we have a fantasy world where each and every single person has a candle— lit and burning from the…[Read more]

Hey I just wanna say something really quick.
If you want to write good books, read good books. You can learn twice as much from reading one well-written novel than from reading a dozen books on how to write that kind of novel.
I would not even be writing today if my parents hadn’t seen to it that I had almost endless resources of high quality…[Read more]
