Tuck Everlasting I think is actually Method #4. (of course I chose the crazy one) The choice Winnie makes between living forever and living a normal life is between her story goal and her thematic development.

The way I name characters is that I look at their personality and find a name that fits them. Which is either from the top of my head, my baby name book :), or I make one up if it is fantasy. One of my role models is a young mother who has lots of kids, and most of them are boys. Things can be crazy, but no matter what happens she has a joyful spirit.
