Jane Maree replied to the topic No, I'm not a movie writer, *points* she is…… in the forum Film 6 years, 9 months ago
@Jenwriter17 as Elizabeth said, the plot points of writing a movie script is the same as a fiction novel. And as Rochellaine said there’s a lot of different people who take part in the storytelling.
My #1 tip: imagine every single word you write as happening in a movie. If you can see it perfectly in the movie style, then write down the small…[Read more]

Hey. Look. I’m not going to say you’re an amazing writer, but I am going to say that if you like writing and if it’s something you enjoy then it’s a gift. It’s a gift from God.
He’s blessed you with that gift and you don’t have to be a higher standard, a better writer, as good as ‘so-and-so’, because He’s given you the gift in exactly…[Read more]

@Dragon-snapper I’ve recently started up a facebook page too, and I’m just learning the ropes. I normally share all my blog posts on there, and some updates on my WIPs (though I should do that more). I’m thinking of doing a ‘Saturday Snippets’ sort of thing where I share a piece of writing every Saturday, etc.
Other than that, I also second…[Read more]

@That_Writer_Girl_99 I’m so so happy that you checked out the ‘too good to be true’ forum. This place wouldn’t be the same without epic people like you to spread some happiness and friendly words of encouragement and advice.
Seriously, girl. You’re amazing. <3

Dekreel Recommendations on their way. 😛
Steampunk
– The Rithmatist (Brandon Sanderson)
– Storming (K. M. Weiland)Both excellent books, and really really good.
Sci Fi
(a very broad genre so it depends exactly what you’re looking for?)–Â Insignia (S.J. Kincaid) (not the most amazing book, in my opinion, but okay)
– The Lunar Chronicles…[Read more] -

@Jenwriter17 I haven’t actually read any of those books, but I looked them up and read friends’ reviews to get an idea.
Defier – I’ve checked with a friend who read this and it’s perfectly clean content-wise.
Swipe – Several friends have enjoyed it and didn’t mention anything about bad content
Last Light – Also clean, by report of trustworthy…[Read more]

@Daeus it looks pretty good! My only thing would be that in the sections that you have images (the ‘contents’ and ‘are you serious about your writing’ headers) it would look better if the images would automatically fit to the length of the screen. For example, I have quite a wide computer screen so there’s about an inch of a gap between the edges…[Read more]

@Catwing I 10000% second the suggestion to check out Katie Grace’s blog. She’s an epic person, and her posts are always amazing. <3 <3
I would suggest starting off with just one post a week. I usually do two, but it does take a lot of commitment to get out two posts every week. Start small and build up. 😛

@Jenwriter17 as Princess said, some of the elements are fairly generic with the dystopian genre. Evil government and Outcasts are common features, BUT that doesn’t mean you can’t use it. I definitely say you can still do this well if you have your own aspect and take on the situation and use your own style to make the story unique and different.

@jenwriter17 Hey hey!
I think that would probably be fine. There’s plenty of other dystopian books that have that sort of dividing idea. I say, go for it. 😛Yes! I’m actually helping her organise it (hence it’s open for Aussie and New Zealanders too, because if one wins I’ll be the one posting the book to them xD). But goodness me that sticker…[Read more]

Jane Maree replied to the topic Questions about writing a short story in the forum Plotting 6 years, 9 months ago
@livgiordano As the others have said, basically you have to change the full character arc into a tiny little three-scene structure. That condenses it down to a small space, but still has the general idea. For example:
– Goldilocks wants eats the porridge because she doesn’t think taking someone else’s stuff is bad
– The bears come back and chase…[Read more] -
