@aratrea ah-ha, I see now. Thanks for clarifying. 🙂

@Dragon-Snapper whew… I haven’t written scifi yet, though I’ve got one in the works. And… quite honestly, most of my inspiration for the actual science-y stuff came from studying physical science in my schoolwork. Like… the nature of time. And space. And how gravity is a result of those two, bent. And how stars work… and what gases do what…[Read more]

Finish the second draft of my WIP, run through it one more time, and send it out to beta readers. Also write a novella. (Yes. The same novella I put int the Fall and Winter Writing Goals. *weak chuckle*)

*silently hands out chocolate because there’s nothing else to be done*
Wasn’t it marvelously put together on every conceivable level though?

@Aratrea Got it. He does tempt Ethaniel with the idea of giving him a name, but it is more trying to give what he thinks Ethaniel wants than trying to convince him to his own point of view.

@Aratrea then… hm. So then it’s possible for a character to be more than one of the three types? Because she’s definitely a type one, and yet when you said that I realize she could also be a type two after a fashion. Does that work?

Hope Ann replied to the topic Homework for Video 14: Theme & Villain in the forum Writing Assignments 9 years, 1 month ago
My main villain is a former friend of Ethaniel’s. They were messengers together and developed a strong bond because Ethaniel has no name and Keros (who ends up becoming the villain) was of mixed blood (Ethaniel actually helped and cared for Keros when Keros first joined the force. He’s the main reason Keros stayed). Keros’s EiL is that a…[Read more]

I’m going to go with Arianwen again. Her arc mirrors Harold’s, making it a type one. They both follow disillusionment arcs.
Arianwen’s, however, more represents the flip side of Harold’s, because while Harold was particularly disillusioned with the ‘good guys’ and almost considered joining the bad guys, Arianwen, because she was on the wrong side…[Read more] -

@Overcomer *grins* I like this. Muchly. The only thing I might say do differently than how you have it is make this the peddler’s story, not the princess’s. By which I mean, take out the intro about the princess who had trouble dancing (hilarious though it is) and just start with the peddler on the road meeting the dancing master. That will give…[Read more]

@aratrea Alright. A foil, then. And yes, Ard is very interesting. I still am working on figuring out the end of his arc…

Hope Ann replied to the topic Homework for Video 12: Foil Characters in the forum Writing Assignments 9 years, 1 month ago
@aratrea Yes, it might have something to do with that too. Actually, it will probably have a lot to do with the negative EiL and consequences from events over 30 years ago… *grins* *heads off to work on details*

@aratrea Yep. The one piece of truth they have is the piece the MC is missing. It so much fun when the villain or main antagonist knows and (in some sort of manner) teaches the MC the truth they need to hear even while mortal enemies.

Can characters be antagonists on and off? Because I’ve a number of characters that are antagonists at some points and work with the MC at other points.
Silvara: An archeress. She’s been a legend for 500 years and thinks the whole name deal is a bit hilarious. Though when it comes to the respect people have for her just due to her name and not…[Read more]

Just two… Foil characters are so much fun. These are for Fidelyon, again. The rest of my work will probably be for that novel. My trilogy isn’t developed enough for this yet… Anyway:
1. Seamus: the page boy of the MC. His EiL is that names don’t mean much, if anything. He’s an orphan, and couldn’t care less. It is what he…[Read more]

I love the foil characters that stand opposed to the main character’s EiL in almost every way and yet have one aspect of truth that the MC is missing. My mind is going blank on such characters in fiction (I don’t suppose I can count my own characters. *grins sheepishly* They’re the ones I’ve been thinking about a lot recently.) though I know there…[Read more]

@Daeus true… 🙂 *sigh* I’m working on it… I think I may actually be able to make my goal of two hundred pages cut and get it down to six hundred pages by the end of this draft. *cheers*
