Greetings everyone,
Our friendly KeePer, @Anne-of-Lothlorien, wanted me to announce that she is taking a break from the forum for a while in order to concentrate on her studies and other tasks. Hopefully, she’ll be back, but the break is for an uncertain amount of time. Anway, make sure you say goodbye and wish her the best.

@hope Ahh; got ya. Sounds like you may have two different themes going on here. Success would work well as a theme. Another way you could take it if you wanted to stick with the finite ability of man, would be to have a focusing question like this: “Given the finite ability of man, how can man succeed in life?” The answers would then just need to…[Read more]

@hope Ooohhh, ok. Success sounds like a good theme then.

@hope Hmm. Toughy. Well, success sounds like it might work. Another one I thought of is power. Then maybe your focusing question could be, what gives one the power for success. Ethaniel goes from thinking he has to make himself succeed to knowing his only success is through God’s power. The villain’s belief is that he finds the power to succeed…[Read more]

@hope Good choice! There definitely are a number of themes in LotR (the lust for power is another central one), and that theme is certainly one of them.

@hope Those are great possible answers to the focusing question; I really like how many of those answers are pretty sympathetic answers that many people would choose, and not just obviously wrong answers like fame or power. That has the potential to make your theme a lot more compelling as readers can see themselves drifting to those wrong…[Read more]

@hope Great analogy! I like it. And I definitely agree with you on how great it is to find books with great themes. Nothing hooks me to a story as much as a strong theme does.

@hope That’s great. Haha, I can definitely sympathize with the struggle of moving a theme from the concept-level into the actual story! Keep that goal in mind while working through the course and I’d love to hear your thoughts on the other end of the course on how much the course helped you with that goal.
@anne-swiftblade That’s great! We’ll be…[Read more]

@winter-rose That’s a very good question :). Add to that that I have a blog to keep up, and I’m line editing Song of the Sword for @Hope, and trying once in a while to assure my current characters that I’m not giving up on them. Oh, and sleep. Because, you know, after a long day where you’ve been pushing them off to the side, right when you go to…[Read more]

Hey guys,
Here is a silly little poem I wrote a while back. I’d love to know what you think of it, whether you have any ideas for improvements, etc. I’m just calling it “A Couple of Birds” for now, but if you think of a more appropriate title let me know. 🙂
Thanks! 🙂
P.S. (Just be honest and say so if you don’t like it. I value your…[Read more]

I just thought of another subtitle idea. Compared to Dire Recompense, how do you like Sudden Recompense?

Hello everyone! So, computers? I’ve had a dell laptop for a few years now, but the screen’s pixels are dying thereby placing me in search of a new laptop. I’ve heard good and bad things about Macs, and I really liked my Dell. I was wondering what y’all liked, and the strengths/weaknesses of different computers as I search for a new one. I use it…[Read more]

@hope Anything helps. God bless.
But actually, that point that individual book plot points may sometimes line up with the overall plot points is very helpful.@kate-flournoy 😀 You haven’t gone green in a while. And it’s funny because I can’t think of anything you might have read that would have caused it. It feels like I did, but now I don’t…[Read more]

Thanks, y’all. I’m thinking for my story I’m gonna have to write it mainly as one long story arc, but give each book a feeling of semi-completion.
@kate-flournoy @hope You two have thoughts on this, don’t you?
